    Main Description
Barn Owl is a beautiful detached self-catering cottage nestled deep within the Exmoor countryside. The spacious cottage can sleep up to 4 people and serves as a wonderful base for exploring the local area. Complete with a large garden with patio and seating area, as well as an exclusive small wooded area, this stunning property really is a haven away from the busy world.

Up the short path through the front lawns to the front door there is a well-equipped kitchen, with a large dining table. Also on the ground floor is a spacious sitting room, perfect for relaxing, with leather sofas, a woodburner and a TV with Freeview and DVD player functions. The garden stretches all around the property, and includes a charming little wooded area, as well as a patio with garden furniture. 1 dog is welcome, however we ask that they should be kept on a lead at all times (sheep country).

In the laundry room (in one of the small stone barns) is a coin-operated washing machine and tumble dryer. There is also a shared freezer and a payphone. A hosepipe alongside the laundry room serves as a great addition to allow dog, boot, bike washing!

A refundable security deposit of £200 is required for this property, to cover the cost of possible damage during your stay. All things being well, this security deposit will be returned shortly after your departure providing there is no damage to the property or its contents. Two weeks prior to your arrival, you will need to contact the owners to arrange payment of the security deposit.

One well behaved dog is welcome by prior arrangement. You are expected to be vigilant and keep your dog/s under close control at all times as there is likely to be livestock in the immediate vicinity. There is a forestry track leading from the garden that you can exercise your dog on for a short walk. There are lots of lovely walks a short drive from the farm where your dog can be exercised freely, including dog friendly beaches.

Please do not arrive until after 4pm so we can ensure the cottage is thoroughly clean and ready for you. On your day of departure, please can you leave the cottage before 9:15am so we can ensure we have enough time to thoroughly clean the cottage for the next guests. We also ask that you strip the beds and leave all linen and towels in appropriate piles.

    The region

Wheddon Cross is often called the 'crossroads of Exmoor' -- a friendly village at the junction of the A396 and B3224, right in the heart of the National Park.

Standing at around 300 metres above sea level, Wheddon Cross is the highest village on Exmoor. It sits in the parish of Cutcombe, with the ancient parish church of St John just a short walk away in the neighbouring hamlet. The village grew up around its important crossroads, where travellers on the old coaching routes between Dulverton, Minehead and Simonsbath would stop to rest.

    Village Amenities

The Rest and Be Thankful Inn stands at the centre of the village -- a 19th-century coaching inn serving food, local ales and accommodation. Wheddon Cross also has a well-stocked village shop with post office services, a petrol station with ATM, free public toilets, a children's play park, and an active village hall hosting regular community events.

    Nearby Towns

Minehead (8 miles) -- The main town of West Somerset, with larger supermarkets (Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl), high street banks, a sandy beach, and the terminus of the West Somerset Railway.

Dunster (7 miles) -- One of England's best-preserved medieval villages, dominated by its castle and famous yarn market. Excellent independent shops and places to eat.

Dulverton (10 miles) -- Known as the southern gateway to Exmoor, with a National Park Visitor Centre, independent shops, a butcher, and several pubs and restaurants along the River Barle.
