The Garibaldi neighborhood takes its name from the large train station located on its northern edge. It’s a charming, predominantly residential neighborhood to live in: it’s set back from the more bustling city center, but still easily reachable on foot. The neighborhood has some excellent restaurants, and we especially recommend the wonderful, traditional Antica Trattoria della Pesa. The neighborhood is also home to the elegant pedestrian boulevard Corso Como, featuring affordable restaurants and the legendary lifestyle store and bar of the same name, 10 Corso Como. Via Maroncelli is a beautiful street with several interesting luxury design shops along its length.
Moscova is an affluent and understated neighborhood where you’ll find elegant squares lined with expensive restaurants catering to the wealthy local residents. This is an historic and noble area, just north of Brera. The pace of life is very fast; it’s an area popular with nightlife enthusiasts and young people on the hunt for the latest fashion trends. Fashion lovers can put on their best outfits and strut their stuff all the way to the Moscova District Market, a concept store focused on designer clothing and brand sales. After shopping, enjoy a drink at one of the quirky bars and watch the world go by in true Milanese style.
The Bosco Verticale is a complex of two residential tower blocks designed by Boeri Studio (Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca, and Giovanni La Varra) and located in Milan’s Centro Direzionale, on the edge of the Isola neighborhood. A distinctive feature of these buildings, both inaugurated in 2014, is the presence of more than two thousand tree species—including shrubs and tall trees—distributed across their facades. This is an ambitious urban reforestation project that, through the vertical densification of greenery, aims to increase plant and animal biodiversity in the Lombard capital, reduce urban sprawl, and help moderate the microclimate.
From Casa Alexandra, you can get around all of Milan by public transportation: its location offers great flexibility for easily reaching the city center via the metro—just 4 stops to Cadorna, 5 to Citylife, and 1 stop to Stazione Centrale. San Siro is 10 metro stops from Garibaldi.
You can also walk to Brera and Chinatown in about ten minutes. Corso Como and then Corso Garibaldi are just a few minutes’ walk away from Piazza Gae Aulenti. The Biblioteca degli Alberi park is a three-minute walk away, and the charming Isola neighborhood is also very close by, featuring nightclubs (Blue Note) and fine dining restaurants.
You can stay in the area and visit the modern Piazza Gae Aulenti and its iconic shops, less than a three-minute walk away, or take the subway to the Duomo for a sightseeing tour.
