We were looking for a property with a beach so we could assemble and launch our double folding kayak for two or three days - without having to disassemble it after every paddle. We were thrilled to find this beautifully appointed studio with three perfect, charming, deck areas. One above the water, another large, fairly private deck, protected from wind, and another one, equally protected, off the kitchen. This property as a storied history which we read about in the binder provided. The kitchen has everything we needed to make our simple meals. Antique furniture, lots of books, games, DVDs, WiFi, a beautiful bathroom, a gas powered hearth for chilly nights make this a cozy, perfect place to relax. We discovered a fascinating book in the bookshelf: The History of the Point Reyes Peninsula. We bought a copy on our way home in the Point Reyes bookstore. And we met a wonderful neighbor and his wife who told us a few stories about the area and the property specifically. All in all we were absolutely happy and satisfied with our stay. We are also grateful to B., one of the owners, who greeted us warmly and shared a few stories. A note for paddlers. Check the tide and weather well before you arrive. At low tide the water retreats quite a way - but Millers Boat Launch with ramp is only a 4 minute drive away. We have launched our kayak there in the past before we thought of staying at this wonderful vacation rental.

As usual my annual trek to Joe’s Studio for my salt water fix was perfect. Perfect location to explore to the north or south. Cold, foggy and windy Friday night but cozy duvets and the fireplace made everything just right.

Wonderful Getaway on the Bay!

This was the perfect place to stay for our daughter’s wedding weekend at the nearby Strauss family home. Nestled right up against the picturesque Tomales Bay, it had everything we needed to enjoy a magical weekend.

Getting the key was difficult. Directions said look for grey gate but there isn’t one, only a blue gate and fence. The lock is a little rough, maybe time to replace. Had to jiggle the key to lock/unlock. Inside was good, had a smell like maybe it’s time to replace the carpets. Everything else was great. Love the little oatio outside the kit he.

Great place -- crazy storm!

This is a lovely studio on Tomales Bay. I happened to pick the wrong weekend to go as there was a king tide and major rain storm. Took away the dock and did some other damage. BUT, the place is lovely and exactly as in the listing and the owners and manager were very gracious and refunded the trip since was no power or water most of the time. So highly recommended and this was like a every 30 year event not the usual so do not be dissuaded by my weekend :) Otherwise Tamales bay is beautiful and Nicks Cove and the Marshall Store are just a few miles away. Cannot recommend more highly.

Tomales Get Away

From the outside the house is a little rough & in need of some TLC. This is a house split into 2 houses. I assumed we would have a view but Joe’s Studio is on the back of the house & you must go outside to the deck to see the bay. We were never sure if there was someone in the front side of the house but there was a car there. I prefer privacy when vacationing so this was a little unnerving to me. There is no oven/ stove in the kitchen. The studio has been remodeled & was clean, except for the mattress cover on the hide a bed. The studio beds were very comfortable & the location is great as there is so much to do in the area.

Incredible location on the bay

Joes studio was fantastic. The small studio had everything you need, including a huge selection of dvds to explore after a day spent outside. We rented kayaks and only used them once - the kayaking is superb but the house’s location was so perfect we just wanted to stay there all day. There were so many birds to watch. Including an osprey nest we could watch all day while wading in the bay. This place is so peaceful and quiet, and the deck and patio were perfect every hour of the day. The price is also much more affordable than other places in the area, but the studio had every basic need covered.

On the Bay again

Return trip to Joe’s. Loved it last summer, so we came again. We love the peaceful vibe. Watching the tide move in and out. The fog creep and the sunsets. Perfect!

Perfect vacation getaway

This quiet, private studio has been recently remodeled and is located directly on the bay. A beach to walk on and decks provide ample seating to enjoy the outdoors. Extremely clean and the owner has added many amenities to make it comfortable. Kitchen is well stocked and the fireplace is wonderful.

Planning to return

Even with the stormy weather the studio was warm and secluded. Our only challenge was sustained hot water to the shower. Hot water was slow, but adequaate to the kitchen and bath lavatory. However hot water to the shower was medium temp and then abruptly cold. You will hear from us in a couple of months when the seasons change. Also, arriving home we found that we had packed in our bags the little salt and pepper dispensers. Let me know and I'll send a check. Thank you, Vic Herrmann

Cute stay on the water!

This studio is larger than expected and has a good layout! Very private feeling even though attached to the main house! Stunning views off the private patio (though the lowtide can be stinky!) Rob was communicative and easy to reach! Would stay here again no question!

My salt water fix

As always, Joe’s Studio is the perfect escape from the heat of the Foothills. My “salt water fix” revives me, not to mention the yummy fresh seafood found in Inverness, Point Reyes Station, Marshall and Bodega Bay. The new shower is lovely, however, we were getting used to showering in the kitchen. The renovated kitchen has everything you need to prepare a meal “at home”. We will be back.

Perfect remote spot for a small family

We loved our stay at Joe’s Studio. It was perfect for my husband and I and our 6-year old. The view was incredible, my son swam in the water, and it’s within a 5-10 minute drive to a market (Tomales General Store) and 4 great restaurants (we ate at Tony’s Seafood (twice!) & Hog Island, but didn’t have time to try Nick’s Cove or Marshall General). The studio itself is very comfortable and was very clean. Loved the private patio with the doors out onto the bay. We had ample space and wished we had more time there. (Take note: there is only a hot plate for cooking, no stovetop. My fault for not realizing it, as the owner did mention it in the VRBO listing). Would highly recommend this place for a quiet, beautiful and remote vacation. Thank you again!
