A hidden gem — design, location, and breakfast are unforgettable.
I honestly hit the jackpot with this hotel. While it doesn’t have the flashy exterior of some luxury properties, the interior design is incredible — every corner feels like a curated gallery, with art and treasures everywhere you look. The location is perfect; I felt right in the middle of the souk and the heart of Manama, which made exploring lively and easy.
The rooms were exceptional for the price — on average, I paid around $300, while most other hotels in Bahrain were closer to $800. The breakfast alone is worth the stay, and I would happily return just for that. It’s the kind of hotel where you genuinely feel like you’re getting more than expected.
There were a few downsides, however. Reception didn’t provide any upgrades or welcome gestures, and my request for a high floor wasn’t fulfilled. The one serious issue was with transport: the hotel organized a car for me, and I ended up being massively overcharged — far more than what I should have paid. It seemed a portion of the extra went to the hotel itself, which was disappointing and something to be cautious about.
Overall, The Merchant House is a stunning boutique hotel that combines style, comfort, and a fantastic location. Just be mindful of any extras organized through reception.
