The property was fine (although it could use some updating; the appliances are quite old & hot water is sparse), but it is not managed by a homeowner. It is managed by a 3rd party management company. I booked this property in August for a New Years stay. Management sent me an email upon booking in August, including details about the property (e.g. address & key code entry information) & a checkout date of 1/2/18. In November, I emailed to confirm the booking & they sent an email stating our checkout was 1/1/18. I pointed this out & they said our booking through VRBO was for 1/1/18 & their email was an error & shouldn't have been considered a confirmation. They never caught nor corrected this error. I shared their email with the 1/2/18 checkout date w/ our group of 8 upon booking, since whoever arrived first would need the unit access info. As a result, 4 members of our party booked flights departing 1/2/18. This left us with nowhere to stay the night of 1/1/18. Let me tell you it is impossible to find a place for a 1 night stay for a group of 8 on Jan 1st. The other option was for those 4 individuals to pay hundreds of dollars to change their flights. The most disappointing part was management & VRBO's response. Management was rude & dismissive; they acknowledged their "typo" but said I should have known what dates the VRBO booking was for & did absolutely nothing to accommodate--no discount of any sort. VRBO told me to file a complaint on the property, for which there was absolutely no f/u or response. To make matters worse, I recd a call from management at 10:13AM (check out is at 10AM) stating the cleaners told them we were still in the unit & if we didn't vacate we would incur a $100 fee--except that by that time we were already eating breakfast in town, having vacated on-time. I am stunned that a company can send you an email with the WRONG checkout date and make absolutely NO adjustments. It caused a huge disruption/cost for us. I would never consider booking with this company again, especially since customer service was so rude. I should have been more diligent & checked online reviews for the company (there are many poor reviews), but I did not catch that I would be dealing w/ a 3rd party company through VRBO. They also have a negative review on VRBO, but it wasn't submitted until after we booked or I would have paid attention to that since the property only has 5 reviews.
