  • Mountain Joy Cottage #6, Bait and Tackle, is named and adorned for the fisherman at heart. Our trout coffee table was the motivation behind this delightfully alluring cottage. Dark green walls and amusing enhancements make you feel as though you are in the woods near your favorite stream or pond.

    Originally the homestead of Maggie Setzer, for whom Maggie Valley was named, the land that Mountain Joy sits is a special place. You will become enchanted with it’s mountain charm, family atmosphere and character. We offer all the modern conveniences you would expect with the year-round access and seclusion that very few can offer.

    Enjoy the peaceful country setting of our cottages. We have one, two and four bedroom cottages all equipped with wood burning fireplaces, cable TV, internet and kitchens ready to cook a home made meal. Outside the porches have rocking chairs so you can enjoy your morning coffee or enjoy the sunset on the mountains in the evening. Our glass enclosed outdoor pool (seasonal) offers a delightful place to relax.

    Mountain Joy Cottages are centrally located in the heart of Maggie Valley just one block up Setzer Cove Road with easy access to all of the area attractions. We are just minutes off of the Scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The area is loaded with craft, antique and gift shops. The great outdoors offers horseback riding, golf on area mountain courses, trout fishing in streams, white water rafting and scenic drives. Snow skiing and tubing is available for the entire family at Cataloochee Ski Area. Nightlife includes everything from Jazz to Bluegrass, clogging or dinner entertainment. Our cottages are just a short drive to the Great Smoky Mountain Railway, Asheville and The Biltmore Estate, Cherokee and the Indian Reservation and Harrah’s Casino and historic downtown Waynesville.

    Whatever the season, Mountain Joy Cottages and the Great Smokies have something very special to offer. From the wildflowers of spring, to the blaze of colors in the fall or the serenity of winter, come visit and make lasting memories at Mountain Joy Cottages.

Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful time! Very quiet area! Which we loved! The cottage was very nice and clean and it had everything in the kitchen to cook dinner. We loved the area close to everything. We would definitely come back.

High Admin Fees!

Nice location but if you want to pay more in Admin fees than the daily rate, be my guest. I mean $75 just for reservation!!

Mountain Cabin in Maggie Valley

Clean, decorated in a bait and tackle theme, adorable cabin. Two bedrooms, one bathroom and very comfortable furniture and beds. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The open field between cabins was a great place to walk our dogs. There was a pond but too cold to check out the pool. We ran into an elk one morning when we were walking. It was quite passive but very big. No prettier place than fall in the mountains. We attended the Apple Festival in Waynesville and the Southern Highlands Craft Guild show in Asheville. Will stay again.

The Owl Cabin

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We stayed here Oct 27-29th and it was great. The Cabin was huge and exactly what we needed for all of us. All the bathrooms were nice too. Also, it was spread out enough for the kids to be able to have a quiet nap space. The cabin was clean and well stocked. Great location. We will be back for sure.

Second time staying in the same cabin

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: When we walked in there was a dirty paper towel on the floor. The floors weren't very clean. The silverware tray had hair in it, so I washed it and all the utensils in it, which some of those were dirty. The only large mixing bowl was being used to catch water from a leaky pipe under the sink. Some of the kitchen items need replacing. When I pulled down the quilt there was hair on the sheets. It is a great location. There were elk wandering on the property which was great to watch.

Cute Cabin Needing a Deep Clean

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The cabin is a cute cabin for sure. It was as described ... fishing theme with 2 bedroooms, 1 bathroom, and 1 large room for living room, kitchen, and table. The bathroom has recently been remodeled, apparently and was cute but small without a cabinet or table to put items on which meant I had to use the toilet to place my tools/makeup bag on. This was okay with me and I point it out only for future guests.The biggest issue with this cabin is that it needs a deep clean terribly. As stated in several reviews, cobwebs are all over, dust that hasn't been cleaned in forever is on decor throughout cabin, and even mold growing on the nightstand in the king sized bedroom. I did leave this information with the rental company upon checking out so I am hoping that finally someone will clean this place appropriately.The cabin sits in a small subdivision that is absolutely beautiful with a wooden playset, basketball court, pool (I didn't use), and big, beautiful trees that sounded like rain as the leaves fell to the ground (my favorite part of all). IF this cabin were deep cleaned, it would be worth the money I paid, but as it was, I was disappointed in the cost. PLEASE, finally take heed and clean it!! As is, I would not be able to recommend this to a friend without the express knowledge of the aforesaid information.I enjoyed Lake Junaluska's beautiful trail and scenery and also Barber's Orchard where I picked up absolutely delicious apples to bring home!

It was very dusty in the corners and around the beds. It also needs to have minimal supplies left such as extra light bulbs and soap. The sheets could use upgraded as well. I enjoyed seeing the Elk come through and eat from the apple trees.

What a joke!

Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was more than happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Disastrous! Cottage was filthy. Looked like it hadn’t been properly cleaned in years. (Have pics to prove it.) Dusty isn’t the word for it, floors were nasty, oven was disgusting...leak for who knows long under kitchen sink...wouldn’t dare cook in the pots and pans. Ant problem. Spiders. Dirty sheets on the bed and they refused to change them or even give us clean ones. Interim manager came out and agreed it was unacceptable but did nothing to make it right other than call a cleaner and they did not clean it. Wasn’t offered any type of substitution rental or reimbursement at all. Had to go buy my own cleaning supplies and clean the whole place myself. Real manager (who had been on vacation) never bothered to contact me about any complaints or return my call at all. Used to love going to Mountain Joy Cottages, will never go back now.

Beautifully quaint

We booked this last minute and we are happy that we did. The cottage was beautiful and comfortable. The playground and grass area was clean and fun for the kids. The pond was such a great feature. The best thing about this place is that you can bring your four legged best friend. She had a blast running around. The location was great, close to great eateries and fun activities for the whole family. I will be recommending this place to everyone and anyone.

Disappointed with cleanliness and insect problem

I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was a very cute unit however filled with dust and cobwebs, and terrible ant problem. Ants were everywhere in the kitchen and bathroom. We kept our food in a sealed cooler however the ants eventually they made their way in there. Made a call to the management company who stated they sent an exterminator, however there was no note left the day he was supposed to treat and instead left a can of ant/roach spray at the font door. We absolutely could not spray the entire kitchen (counters, walls, floors) as well as bathroom with toxic spray and remain in the cabin. We resorted to keeping the food in the cooler and shaking our towels free of the ants before drying off after shower. Unfortunately the unit was not well cleaned before our arrival either. Dust and cobwebs in corners, on pictures, lamps, ceiling - not sure how the mgmt. feels that is an acceptable move-in condition. Finally, arrived to less than 1/4" of toilet paper on the roll. Agree that we are responsible for our own paper supplies, however pre-arrival info indicated 1 roll would be provided. We arrived late, and that wasn't enough for 2 people to go one time before necessitating a trip to the store. Terrible welcome message for new arrivals. Sadly it would appear there's no attention to detail by the cleaning crew, nor oversight from management. That's unfortunate given the great location and overall set up of the property.
