I loved the patio/sun room. It was quiet and peaceful and the bedrooms, living room,bathroom and kitchen were fine. The garage had a gas odor from the water heater or boiler. The location was great and I'd come back again.

Tons of deferred maintenance. Burned out lightbulbs, main entrance to house through the garage with lightbulb out over steps, light above sink in main bath didn’t work. Hot and cold water was reversed in half bath. Vertical blinds at patio door half busted out. No towel bar in half bath. Washer in half bath kept door from closing, 12 inch gap. Bad rust stain in bathtub from leaky faucet. Exterior photo was not sent to us even though we asked for it prior to arrival.

Relaxing!
We enjoyed our stay! The location is definitely 5 stars! What to know: the house could use some updates, but there have been some since the pictures have been posted so I think Jodi is working on them! There was no grime or anything as mentioned in other posts. Everything was clean! We enjoyed our night with a fire by Lake Huron - there’s firewood right down the road and some plastic patio chairs. The grass has been recently mowed. No a/c. We were comfortable with windows open and bedroom fans going. We would definitely stay again!

Needs VRBO Review

Don’t know what the other reviews are talking about saying they grass isn’t mowed. The yard looks clean and well trimmed as well as the house. The trees provided perfect privacy from the neighbors when sitting on the beach. The owner provided several amenities and was a great help. overall perfect stay

Total Rip Off. VRBO must shut down.
Fraud. Bait and switch. Gives VRBO a bad reputation. Owners totally misrepresent this place. Doesnt meet occupancy codes because the windows in bedrooms dont open, there is no functional door on the half bath, the sliding doors don't lock, etc. In addition, place is not clean, towels were not provided, no A/C & WINDOWS DO NOT OPEN!!! etc., etc. I politely reached out to property manager but received no response. So that tells me they plan to continue their fraud.

Help me help you - do NOT book this property!
Mackinaw City itself is beautiful; this house is an embarrassment to the area. There are reasons the host provides no outside photos of the home. The gutters are falling off and overall is completely dilapidated. The door you enter through garage is broken. There are old appliances in the garage that actually prohibit you from being able to park inside even though it is listed as an amenity. Upon entering the home we discovered it was filthy. While the listing claims they utilize cleaning personnel, and in fact charge a cleaning fee, there was dust and cobwebs everywhere, the dishes were disgusting, tracks of windows and doors were so bug-filled they hardly closed, and visible handprints and grim on the walls. Inside what we are assuming is a never-cleaned oven was a used pan. While there are two rooms with toilets, only one has a door that closes because of a disproportionately sized washing machine. In the main bathroom the toilet paper dispenser remains broken as seen in a previously posted review. The ancient shower faucet allows you to either scald or freeze. There were lightbulbs out and multiple holes in the wall in the sunroom. It should not be listed as having more than 2 queen beds because the pull-out couch is missing so many springs it should come with a warning. What little communication we did receive was INCREDIBLY rude & did not resolve any of the issues brought up except the cleaning of the oven, but I imagine the cleaners were uttery exhausted after that job

Convenient Mackinaw Respite
Stayed for the first night of a 3 day tour of Northern Michigan. Enjoyable view of the bridge at night with a firepit on shore. Just a couple minutes outside downtown Mackinaw on a quiet residential street.

Unfortunately the house and yard combo here is just meh at best. The owner is known in the neighborhood for not caring about this property…right on Lake Huron. The grass had not been mowed in several weeks and looked embarrassing right next to many beautiful spots lining the shore. I am not sure why they would not take more pride in their home city, a beautiful place in our home country, and mow your lawn (among other things) so guests coming in enjoy it more. Whoever we communicated with was kind and accommodating, and I suspect they are not directly responsible for the lack of care for the property. Nice spot on Lake Huron, temper expectations though.

Shockingly Bad
When we arrived, the property looked so dilapidated and abandoned that we thought we had gone to the wrong place. A swarm of bugs immediately surrounded our car. The grass was unkempt and had not been mowed in some time. The gutters were falling off the house and the exterior walls were filthy. We were given a code to use on a lockbox, but there was no lock box to be found, so we had to call the owner. She confirmed we were at the right place and that the keypad was located on a door inside of the garage. Unfortunately, the code did not work and after several attempts, the keypad locked us out. We had to call the owner back for assistance and she was even more irritated and unfriendly on the second call. She said in a huff, “I’ll send someone to assist you,” and before we could ask how long or even thank her for the help, she hung up! She also did not apologize for the inconvenience nor acknowledge our message when we let her know the next morning that we had checked out. Worst customer service experience we’ve had with a rental. Not only that, the interior needs a lot of work. Dishes were grimy. Toilet paper holder broken off the wall. Blinds broken/missing. Screen doors had so many dead bugs in the tracking they couldn’t open. No broom in the house. A washer/dryer is listed as an amenity, but there is no laundry soap to be found! Sheets were cheap and uncomfortable. Very few amenities for what is being charged. Way overpriced and not worth it even with the nice view. :(

Great view that’s it/ beware must read about stay!!!
Pull into house grass knee high! Limbs hanging from tree that need to be cut, so you don’t hit your head when you get out of car. Walk into garage door is full of spider webs and bugs!!! Garage full of old house items. Floors in house haven’t been sweep in I don’t know how long!!! Hair dust bunny’s !!! Try to open windows in house, due to no air conditioning most of the window cranks so old they are broke,or screens have holes. Walk out to looks a view of the lake and bridge witch were beautiful!! In the closed porch area, half the screens are gone and have holes in them. Yes I’m not done yet, let move to couch in living room, that is also a pull out bed!!! It is so broke down that you couldn’t sit on it and to sleep on it was so bad that my son that is 11 fell thur it!!! The two back bedrooms weren’t to bad but again can’t open windows. Try to contact owner no answer!!!! Only good review I will give this place is that the view was beautiful. Would have been better if we could have sat out side but the grass was so high you couldn’t!!! You would think someone with a lake front house and this view would take better care of there property!!! My family travels all over and use VRBO for are stay and have never had so many problems with a property or owner!!! Wish we could get something back from this owner!!! Or even a phone cal at least!!! Wish reviews from prior stays before us were posted before we booked!!!

Our stay at house
We rented the house for memorial weekend my family and I. The location where the house is located is great , close to everything. However, when we checked in the house was very very I mean very dirty. I hate to write a bad review on anything but I will say that the house need deep cleaning. My sister and I spend couple hours cleaning and vacuuming the inside and outside of the house from the spider webs and dead bugs that were all over the garage door , summer room and around the windows. The house is great but needs to be cleaned and sprayed with bugs spray before anyone checks in. Please make sure to get bugs spray and cleaning supplies if your consider renting the house for your trip.

BACKYARD VIEW STUNNING
This location is amazing! The view of the lake and Mackinac Bridge in the backyard is amazing! The house was plenty big for our family including our little dog. The house definitely needs some TLC and a few more necessities like dish towels and larger pans for those like us who cook in. We had a wonderful time and we would book this house again. Also we had a little problem with TV and WiFi and the owner was very attentive and quick to respond. Everything was resolved.

All about location
Was a little hesitant after previous reviews. With that said the stay was wonderful. You are paying for an amazing location. Cabin is basic and like most places in that area doesn’t have AC. Part of living in northern Michigan! The cabin was clean and offered everything we needed. It could be turned into an amazing cabin with some upgrades. However the house is older and that is to be expected. Many windows don’t open as do many of the doors on the porch. The addition of some chairs and fire pit and a bbq grill would be a great thing. When all is said and done it was a great location, comfortable house and many of the complaints previously listed were unfounded for us. I’d stay there again without hesitation.

Dad's first trip to Mackinac Island
It was a wonderful weekend. The property for the most part was clean. We ran a broom through the cottage when we arrived just to take care of some of the missed dust bunnies but for the most part the cottage was clean enough for us. Someday the cleaners might want to move the furniture to get all but this wasn't a make or break for us. The sunroom to the cottage was our favorite part because we were able to sit there and listen to the waves crashing on the shoreline. The views are spectacular. I even walked into the water and waded. It is rocky in front of the cabin so aqua shoes are a must but you can wade out pretty far. The beds for the most part are comfortable I do suggest bringing your own pillow just because the pillows there are pretty squishy. All in all this cottage met our needs, gave us exceptional views, and we had a wonderful time. If we ever decide to make another vacation to Mackinaw we would definitely give this cottage another look.

Overpriced and Under Kept
We booked this property for 2 nights as a family vacation and upon arrival realized that this property has not been maintained and was very dilapidated. Very out of date and disappointing. This property has no air conditioning (which we understood when booking) but what made it worse was most windows would not even open to allow for air flow. Location is about the only positive thing we can say about this property. We ended up leaving after 1 night due to being so dissatisfied and disgusted with the property. I would not recommend and will not return.

Family get together
This place is completley misrepresented. All of the dishes came out of the cabinet dirty. There is no paper towel, half of a roll of tissue. The 3rd bed, in the couch, was so dirty we went and bought a blow up mattress. The cleaning people didn't seem to have cleaned. Tables were wiped with something oily. There are no blinds so you can see right into the house from the driveway. You can't close the windows, they are eternally open so only a screen divide you and the outside. No extra towels or wash clothes or sheets. There isnt enough for even 6 people that it was suppose to sleep. We attempted to wash the sheets but the washer leaked water onto the floor when we tried to use it. I called to tell them since there wasnt anyway to wipe it up...i didnt want to get a fine for it... a nightmare.. I've used vrbo a few times. There should be some amenities to a waterfront property. Nothing....the t.v. is 19 inches. There is nothing extra things.....excep; a dirty couch, washer and old stove in the garage. Ill be working to get a refund.

The view was fabulous and the location was perfect. I was a little disappointed that the house was not as clean as I expected. There was no information or note left by the owner as what to expect and there were no extra amenities such as soap or shampoo as I have seen in other places I have stayed. Overall, it was a relaxing stay.

Not what we expected
The location was amazing, but not at all what it presented to be. The property was fairly clean, but smelled really bad. The smell was so strong. Bring water!!! The water was full of residue, lime and rust I suspect. The biggest disappointment was no air conditioning, not even a window unit. It was so hot and muggy we couldn't sleep and only a couple of windows would open, none actually seemed to lock. Very dated. No wi-fi and I could rarely pick up a cell signal. I wasn't camping and I fully expected to be able to research and plan our days to come in the surrounding areas. We had to drive to town to get a signal, not ideal. The overgrown lawn was recently mowed and the clippings were thick all over. We couldn't do anything outside without dragging half the lawn inside. There was no fire pit, so no lakeside evening fires by the shore. The shoreline was very rocky and the water does have a slightly fishy smell, but that was somewhat expected. We also couldn't get the kitchen light or fan to work. The advantages are definitely the location and it had washer and dryer. We also found ample towels which is rare in a lot of places. Overall I felt like it charged way too much.

The view is the only good thing about this property!
Ugh! This property was just a mess! I knew from the photos that the furnishings were from an older motel which is not what I would expect for this price but as long as everything was clean and in good repair I wouldn’t mind. The screens are old and torn in the sunroom which is a bummer because you need the screens open since there’s no A/C. The grass is overgrown and the exterior storm doors are rusted and the latches are broken. Inside, there are things like hair and crumbs in furniture drawers, a razor and other toiletries in the bathroom, lightbulbs missing or burned out, a discarded food wrapper in a corner and debris all over the floors. There was plenty of toilet paper but no paper towels, paper goods or cleaning products of any kind. The dishes were old, cheap, mismatched and incomplete with no serving bowls, the cheapest possible flatware and $10 bundle of cooking utensils. There’s no blow dryer, no fan, no radio, no cable and no WiFi. The house is a victim of poor maintenance, indifferent cleaning and a property “manager” who we’ve since learned is notorious in the Mackinaw City hospitality industry for rudeness. We loved the location and had the place been clean with great service we would have overlooked all the other shortcomings. Just the worst experience I’ve had on this platform.

Functional house for a nice vacation in Mackinaw area
Our family enjoyed our stay at the “Green House.” The house is an approx 900 sq foot single story 2-bedroom ranch. It is a bit dated, but the kitchen and baths are sufficiently updated. We agree with the review stating the the house needs better cleaning. We did some extra cleaning after our arrival to bring it to an acceptable level. Overall, the house served our purpose, and was at least as nice as I expected given the lack of exterior photos and the fact that there were no reviews of the property at the time of booking. Pros: - view of the lake from the sunroom was very nice, great view of bridge/ Mackinac Island - convenient proximity to Mackinaw attractions - plenty of silverware and dishes - beds were comfortable and linens were crisp - bathroom and kitchen were clean (except for items listed below) - washer and dryer were helpful - the kids loved collecting fossils on the beach Cons: - the property manager (or owner?) was not responsive. We could not find any check out procedures and when I sent a message inquiring about this, I did not get a response. Luckily, we were not in need of help with anything while we were there, so this did not affect us much. - living room furniture was dated and couch had a musty odor - kitchen supplies were minimal. Could use another large pot and a larger skillet. Salt and pepper were the only pantry items present, so plan to bring any seasonings you might need. Also there did not appear to be a colander - floors need better cleaning. There was quite a bit of sand, pet hair, and crumbs remaining from a prior guest - I would add cleaning the bathroom floor, shower curtain, and bathroom rug to the routine cleaning schedule (the bathroom smelled mildewy before I washed these things) - floors/ lamps/ molding/ ceiling fans also need routine cleaning. Also, not all the lights turn on - many of the windows do not open or are challenging to open due to broken handles. We visited at a time when the weather was mild and opening some of the windows was sufficient to be comfortable. But lack of AC/ portable fans/ openable windows would have been challenging in hotter weather - it would be more pleasant on the sun porch if the screens were repaired and sliding doors were cleaner - the yard and outdoor space leading to the lake were quite plain. A grill, patio, fire pit, and/or some outdoor furniture would be nice additions

Great location... but overall meh
The location of this property is really amazing, but as a previous reviewer mentioned, a little more attention to detail would go a long way to improving a stay here. A huge "ugh" for me was having to wipe down the shower because there was hair in it. Also, there were no toiletries in the bathroom other than hand soap (no shampoo or anything - we had our own but it stood out to me given the price of the stay), no paper towels to be found anywhere, and the dish soap was empty when we arrived so we had to go out and buy some for the house in order to cook/ eat. Something weird was that it felt like a hotel room vs cabin - all of the furniture, linens, etc - right down to the Gideon bible on the desk (and the desk itself) - seemed to be picked up at a hotel estate sale or something similar. The property is overpriced... I feel like we paid double what we should've, all things considered.

Convenient Lakeside View-O-Rama with Privacy
Great stay at this place. It is an older home and nothing fancy but fixed up nice. Still needs some work to be in top condition, but served us well. No air conditioning, but this is common among homes on the lakes. Is great for 2 adult couples or a couple with kids. The bedrooms were of a nice size and the beds were very comfortable. The Kitchen was very adequate for cooking, but we mostly ate out or brought back some excellent pizza from Mama Mia's (thumbs up!). The location could not have been more suitable and private. The view was gorgeous and the private beach area great for wading and swimming. Do suggest the owner provide some lawn furniture for relaxing in the sun next to the shoreline. We spent much of our early morning and evening hours on the enclosed deck when at the house, with the sliding doors all open and enjoying the view. The location is very conveniently located for getting to the downtown and local sites, as well as to getting to the ferry docks. I do suggest that the owner provide a 2nd key to the doors. It would be easy to lock yourself out or be in a pickle if one lost the only key provided. We truly enjoyed our stay. Thank you for offering your property.

Great location
This was a great 2 bedroom place right on Lake Huron. The lake was crystal clear and you could see the bridge and the island. The shoreline is rocky but with water shoes you can get right in the lake. There is a beautiful sunroom looking out onto the lake. The screen doors could use some updating but a beautiful view and fresh breezes were plenty. There is no WiFi. All in all a great trip for my family of four.

We loved the location of this property which was the main reason we booked. The convenience to Mackinaw City and the ferry services to the Island were awesome. We are not clean freaks by any means, but as we slowly got acquainted with the home we realized that there was quite a bit of dust building up on ceiling fans, cobwebs in areas of the home, and leftover hair in the bathroom sink and tub. We had to clean these areas just to feel a little more comfortable. There wasn't A/C in the home but we didn't anticipate that it would get that warm considering the weather was pretty cool all week/weekend. It was boiling the first night so we had to buy a stand up fan the following day just so our infant could sleep comfortably. The view from the rear of the property was great but the lawn maintenance had been neglected for a while, so we didn't feel very comfortable walking around or letting our little guy run around in the yard. Overall the location of the property was the main attraction. If you're looking to stay longer term, and the forecast is HOT, make sure you come equipped with fans or whatever you think is necessary to stay cool. We were also aware that there wouldn't be wifi on the property. If you want to do any sort of research on your phone, you're going to need a hot spot since the service was very weak. I completely understand the idea of wanting to disconnect and get away, but just want to make sure I could look up any sort of emergency information if need be.
