Overall we enjoyed our stay but there were a few things that were a little stressful. Our accommodation was very clean and accurately described by VRBO. Our problems were caused by the lack of contact with our host. I had emailed him 4 times before we left but had no reply. I rang VRBO who assured me I would have access details before we left. These did not arrive and we only got details when we arrived in Funchal and that was because my husband phoned. I found that a stressful way to begin a holiday. In fact our taxi driver rang the host for details. Also the information about shops and restaurants being close by I feel were a little exaggerated as it was a 30min walk to th e sea front where most of the restaurants seemed to be. Not so good when not hiring a car. Also at least 20min walk to the bus station. Hope you find these comments useful. The lack of communication was the most important issue I want to raise.
