Nice place to stay near Little River/Mendocino

Very nice one-bedroom place, very quiet, nicely furnished, cute outdoor table area. I’d definitely recommend to other couples. My only complaint was the price went up 30% when we later added two adult children, which seemed excessive since our use of the place stayed the same.

Return trip was just as wonderful as the first.

This is our second visit to the Red Barn Retreat, and once again, it was a perfect place to retreat to after our bustling family Thanksgiving festivities on the coast. Well appointed, comfortable, peaceful and fabulous hosts. Thank you, Gabriele and Richard!

Beautiful Cottage in Great Location

The Danish word “hygge” is a perfect description of the feeling of contentment and coziness that comes from the comfort and warmth that this beautiful cottage affords. The interior is rich with earth tones and pleasant trim around the door and windows. It is very warm, and I especially enjoyed the heating emanating from the floor. The bed was comfortable, and the kitchen was well laid out with all of the cooking amenities needed to make a nice meal. Gabriele and Richard are delightful hosts who sought to ensure our stay was comfortable. The setting of this cottage is beautiful, just outside the Van Damme State Park. We took advantage of the Fern Valley hike that starts just down the road from the cottage, and it is a beautiful trail that is worth experiencing. The nearby town of Mendocino is charming. The ocean views are spectacular as are the forests. This is a real gem and is worth trying out.

Nice little place outside of town

The place was very spacious, clean, attractive, and in good condition. It was an excellent value. The owner was very friendly and helpful. It's a couple miles outside of town, so you have to drive to anything other than the pygmy forest - but that also makes it quieter. I would recommend it. would highly recomme

Charming country cottage

We enjoyed our stay at the Red Barn Retreat. The property is beautiful and we especially loved all the flowers in bloom around the house. The bed was very comfy and the kitchen well stocked. Our host was easy to communicate with and very responsive to our questions. The location is very close to the Pygmy Forest with some great hiking.

Romance in the woods

Beautiful property with all the amenities imaginable. Wonderful outside patio with table, grill and umbrella. Inside full kitchen and all beautifully appointed. We could not have been happier to celebrate our 57th wedding anniversary there. All only 10 minutes from downtown.

Remarkable Cottage

Do not hesitate to book here. The Red Barn cottage is five stars for comfort, design details, amenities, bedding, kitchen, bathroom, size, and overall beauty. Gabi and Richard couldn't be more welcoming throughout our 3-night stay. A huge storm hit while we were there, and they were so thoughtful, making us breakfast and helping us find a way out of the area to Hwy 101. All the rivers had flooded and the major routes were inaccessible. For us the location was perfect, near hiking and redwoods, and a short drive to Little River and Mendocino. Do note it is not on the coast. We can't think of anything negative to say. Will stay again and recommend to friends.

The house was very clean, quiet, and comfortable. Gabi and Richard were very nice and accommodating hosts.It rained heavily on our last day there and they told us what backroads to take to avoid closures on Highway 128. These caring people will insure you will have a nice stay!

Quiet Retreat

My husband and I spent about 5 days in this lovely little house. It had all the amenities and was super-quiet (city dwellers, it may take time to acclimate yourself to the quiet!). The hosts live in their own secluded home on the property and were very responsive when we had a minor plumbing issue (a leak in the sink which was fixed immediately). It's very convenient to hiking and to the town of Mendocino only about 10 minutes away).

Like a top-notch homey hotel!

This beautifully decorated and well-kept, extremely clean, and cozy home was just what we needed. We felt very comfortable there and everything was provided. Gabriele and Richard were very nice to chat with. They left a bottle of Husch chardonnay on the counter which was really nice to open after the long drive up! Very peaceful location with beautiful skies at night. The accomodations inside were really well thought out and tasteful. Would love to have had a few more days at the Barn!! Hope to come back soon!

Fantastic quiet haven

We were very happy to stay at this lovely house. Richard, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. Their list of restaurants and local places was much appreciated. The owners provided everything we needed. The home was immaculate, quiet, had beautiful decor, lovely sheets and comforter. The bed was very comfortable. We really appreciated the clear directions for everything and enjoyed all the tv programming, Netflix/prime/hbo. The setting was very beautiful and the private yard lovely. The owners really thought of everything to make it very comfortable and inviting, from a cuisinart coffee maker to the tv programming. I would definitely love to come back.
