  • We spent yesterday arvo bush-bashing down to the Zig Zag Railway viaducts above Lithgow, NSW and looking around the place for a few hours. In this shot you can see the No. 1 Viaduct on the Top Road track. A little further down is the larger No. 2 Viaduct. And on the Bottom Road (which is the train line near the bottom of this pic) is the No. 3 Viaduct. Comprising rock cuttings, classical sandstone viaducts and tunnels, the Lithgow Zig Zag was, and remains to this day, a magnificent piece of engineering. Construction of this part of the rail system began in 1866 and was completed by the late 1890s. The line was decommissioned in 1910 with the construction of the Ten Tunnels deviation which is still in use today by state rail. Back in the early 1970s, volunteers worked to bring the line back into operation as an iconic tourist railway which ran for decades, bringing with it tourism dollars to the wider Lithgow area. In 2013, a huge bushfire swept through the area and destroyed a lot of the infrastructure and equipment used by the Zig Zag Railway. Since that day work has proceeded to slowly bring the tourist train line back into operation It is hoped it'll be up and running again in the next year or so. We were unable to stay due to a few unexpected things cropping up. Great choice to stay if attending a wedding at Collits Inn. Heather was always prompt with her communication. Disappointed we couldn’t have our night away.

The host was very friendly, a large breakfast was set for the three nights we were staying. Although bread gets old in three days. The toaster made it to be acceptable.The view and quietness, sitting on the porch is fantastic.The hosts laudrymat cleaned our clothes, thanks for that!Unfortunately the lights in the room (and other areas) were very poor. No good view on what you are doing in the kitchen which also has only minimal facilities. The coach looks like being 40 years old.Overall I think the owner must update the facility to the status of 2025/2026 to be able to ask these prices for the B&B. Now I think the price performance is very poor.There is no place to keep towels properly in the bathroom.We had to store our luggage in the storage room filled with suitcases, puzzles and other personal goods of the host. This makes it not a very user friendly B&B

Magic Little Hartley Hideaway

Little Hartley Hideaway is situated at the end of a long driveway surrounded by trees and tranquility, far away from the road. There are no car noises at all. All the windows look out onto the beautiful leafy gardens. There is a balcony with a table, chairs and a barbecue. The perfect place to watch the sunset. The unit is well equipped with everything you may need to cook a meal. There were lots of supplies, more than I imagined for a continental breakfast such as coffee grounds, a variety of teas, fresh bread, muesli, milk, water, muffins, butter, a variety of fresh fruits, tomatoes, avocados and locally made jam, chocolates and delicious freshly home made banana muffins. So great!The mattress and pillows are very comfortable with additional blankets in the walk-in wardrobe. We had everything we needed for our 4 night stay. Thank you for making our stay so comfortable!

Perfect little getaway!

Lovely spot with kangaroos hopping about and alpacas across the road. Exactly as pictured and everything you need to for a short stay. Home made muffins and breakfast items much appreciated!

Peaceful oasis

My mother in law booked it for us for our anniversary so I did put 5 stars for booking the trip as it was easy for us haha :-) it was easy to find & so quiet & peaceful.we loved the little front veranda where you could listen / watch the rain & relax. The bed was super comfy too! Very kind to provide us with some food also. Will definitely be back! Thank you again!

A Gem In Hartley

The property was absolutely stunning! We arrived and there were fresh home-made muffins on the bench. Heather was very mindful of giving us privacy but very welcoming in her communication leading up to our arrival. We would love to stay again on our next trip to the Blue Mountains

We arrived late. The hosts had put the heaters on so that the rooms were warm and cosy for our arrival. In the morning we found homemade banana cupcakes (a very personal touch). We wanted for nothing, everything had been thought of. The environment was quiet and very relaxing. Certainly recommend.

Little Hartley Hideaway was perfect for a 1 night Mountain getaway but could easily have stayed longer. The accommodation was well appointed with all we needed. Hosts were great at communicating. Would definitely return.

Absolutely loved it here

I stayed at this property with my mum and we absolutely loved it. The room was sparkling clean and cosy. The owner checked with me for our estimated arrival time so they can make sure the house was heated upon our arrival. The kitchenette was well equipped and a variety of breakfast items was provided. I can sincerely recommend. Thanks for making our stay in the Blue Mountains memorable.

We stayed for a wedding. Room was clean but the bed was like a rock, we could hear every move upstairs and the shower was barely usable. Breakfast include is only multigrain toast with jams, lucky there were better foods in lithgow. Not worth the money.

Excellent!

We only had one night at the Hideaway but we loved every minute. We sat on the balcony enjoying the view; the unit was clean and cosy and had everything we needed. Having fresh bread for toast in the morning was a lovely touch. Thank you Heather!

Peaceful garden hideaway

Little Hartley Hideaway is situated at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. The garden is a beautiful place to sit, read and write while you sit back and enjoy the birds and kangaroos/wallabies. If you're lucky, you might even see the resident wombat. The rooms are neat, tidy and all that is needed for a temporary stay. Thank you Heather and John. Kindest regards

A perfect base to explore the mountains and beyond. Peaceful country surrounds with everything you need (and some things you don't, like home cooked muffins and biscuits, yum). More than enough for breakfasts and we enjoyed the front verandah and garden on returning from our walks and travels.

A lovely place to stay. We were well looked after, with the unit being nice and warm on arival as heating was on. Had everything we needed. Nice garden and some kangaroos visited as well. A lovely setting.
