"We asked for aground floor as we do not do well with steps and they put us in an annex which was obviously new and was just right for us. Our fault that we didn't ask for clean towels etc. The staff are all very welcoming and the meals variable and very enjoyable."

"My friend and I had a girlie two night break at this hotel and loved it. When we arrived the receptionist noticed I was using a walking aid and unprompted started looking to change our room to an accessible room eliminating needing to use stairs. We were very touched by his thoughtfulness. It was an upgrade to a suite which was outstanding and it really enhanced our comfort and experience. "I have to admit that, in my case, I didn’t enjoy at all. Staff is so inflexible, I was in a business trip. Impossible to get a cold sandwich after 9pm (arrived at 9:07) no other options in town except an Indian. The hotel is pet friendly which I like but for the rest not an option for me. A pity because I was expecting something different. The rooms are fine but too many steps and a bit caotic "

"Beautiful country hotel, small and personal service, delightful comfortable en-suite rooms, warm inviting pool - often to ourselves, incredible top class gourmet food - formal dining and bar food served in the warm and cosy bar area or the relaxing lounge. So much choice at breakfast, all delicious, everything you could want. Can’t wait to go back in summer to enjoy the open terrace overlooking the pond. A real joy to stay here."

"We were in room 169. It was a very long walk to the room. However, it was worth it. We had a full view of York Racecourse, from our balcony. The room was very roomy and well equipped. The restaurant served an excellent dinner and a very nice buffet breakfast. The hotel originally was a Manor House built in the 1880s. A very interesting history of it can be found online. "
