Although 2022 is the first summer for the public rental of this long time family cottage, our hats are off to the owners for a job well done. Communication with owner was answered within minutes. We were sent the access code to the cottage the day of the rental and it was easy to find on Waze, the driving app. Initial impressions of the cottage were very good in that it was immaculately clean and nicely furnished. There are 3 nice sized bedrooms with comfortable beds - not too hard and not too soft. Linens were washed and smelled fresh. The kitchen was well stocked with the necessary items - dishes, silverware, appliances including a 12 cup coffee maker, and even paper plates and towels, etc. The WiFi connection is on a fiber backbone and was very fast at 100mbps. Two window A/C units with adjustable thermostats ensured our stay was cool during the day. Each room also has ceiling fans to help the circulation. At no point during our stay were we uncomfortable even on the hottest days.
The cottage is located in a subdivision of similar sized cottages that is for the most part very quiet. This cottage is on a road with only a couple other cottages so traffic and noise was pretty minimal. Our only gripe (which is not the fault of the owner) was the neighbor on one side of the property that liked their music and wanted to share it with us out an open window in their unit during a few evenings, however they were quiet after 8PM or so each night. No big deal.
The cottage is about 4 minutes south of a great little town called Lexington that has really quaint shops, and about 20 minutes away to the south is Port Huron. We found many things to do there, including relaxing on a very uncrowded public beach at Fort Gratiot Lighthouse during the days. There many great places to eat there including Marias for huge and cheap breakfasts, getting coffees at The Exquisite Corpse Coffee house, lunch at the Vintage Tavern, and much more to be found in Port Huron. If you are a weight lifter be sure to check out the Viking Gym! It's a great gym with an old school feel and super friendly owners. My son and I got in some great workouts there which added to our week of fun. My wife also found a lot of great shops in Port Huron.
Overall, we had a great experience at our lovely little rental cottage. It was a great vacation and we hope to be back soon. Thanks to Laura and family for sharing their cottage!
