Our experience at Hula House

Overall, our stay was good. Conveniently close to beaches and downtown shops. For 8 people, the living room was a little small. The outside spaces and front porch were excellent. The bed in the first floor bedroom was difficult to get into due to it's height. Communication with the owner was excellent.

Location, location, location!

We love to vacation in Lewes, DE but we usually stay at the Home 2 suites nearby. This was our first "beach house" experience, and it didn't disappoint! The vintage Hawaiian themed house was so charming and fun! We like to cook while on vacation, and the kitchen was well equipped and convenient. The newly mounted microwave above the oven was a plus...leaving plenty of counter space for food prep! We loved popping over to the little store next door to browse the variety of beach items for sale (we got postcards and ice cream!). It is literally about a 3-5 minute walk to the Lewes beach. We also went biking at Cape Henlopen (one of our favorite activities) and it was only a 5-minute drive! Overall, we had a wonderful stay at the Hula House and enjoyed it's many conveniences and location!

Close to beach and cute. But….

We recently stayed at this Hawaiian-themed home and appreciated the effort that went into the decor. The house is beautifully adorned with island-inspired touches, creating an eclectic atmosphere. Its proximity to the beach was amazing. The home is clean, quiet and offered ample space for our party of 6. While aesthetically lovely, unfortunately we would not rent again for 1 primary reason: The kitchen stove is a fire hazard. There is a wood shelf mounted directly above it with a broken vent and melted plug. With no ventilation, cooking anything felt like we were going to start a fire. I 100% realize that this probably doesn’t matter to most people on vacation, but being a family where 2 have Celiac, we cook every meal at home for food safety and this kitchen- while absolutely charming - was not the best or safest for cooking. I would say that if you are the kind who cooks on vacation, this kitchen will frustrate you.

Great vacation at Hula House

We had a great vacation at Hula House. The house has everything you need to cook including a Keurig with individual cups or pot for coffee. The beds were very comfortable and we slept better there than we do at home. Room enough for extended family and the owner was very accommodating to allow a switch halfway through the week so we could have our sons family for a few days and our daughters family for a few days. It is within walking distance to the beach or town. Lewes is a cute town with many shops to explore and of course Dairy Queen was visited every night. We made lots of memories at the beach, playing games at night, going out to eat and we even enjoyed reading a couple books on the shelves. Washer and dryer was very nice to keep ahead of the laundry. It was like a home away from home. We enjoyed the 1907 house, especially the big farm style sink, the lovely front porch, the private back yard for grilling and picnics, and the Hawaiian theme was interesting as we discovered new things to look at everyday. The owners were very responsive to questions and worked to quickly resolve any issues. We would definitely recommend Hula House. They also provided a welcome treat of a bottle of wine, salt water taffy and a bucket filled with maps of area, and had coffee table books about area beaches and a notebook filled with helpful things to know - very nicely done. Thank you for the memories.

Great Location

We loved the Hula House! Clean and comfy, it was perfect for 7 of us. We loved the Hawaiian theme. Location is great, an easy walk to beautiful Lewes Beach as well as to the marina, or downtown Lewes for shopping or restaurants. The owner was easy to work with, and quick to respond to any questions. She even sent a recommendation about a tour offered at Cape Henlopen, which our family enjoyed.

Beach perfect

The Hula House has a wonderful decors and a great location. You can walk to the beach and into town. The backyard is perfect for barbecues and outdoor dining. We also enjoyed sitting on the front porch. The ideal place for a beach vacation .

Great location - average stay

The location of this property is fabulous as advertised. The outdoor space was lovely and comfortable. We don’t plan to book again. The house was dusty and had a strong dust smell. I believe the main source was all the Hawaii decorations tchotchkes or the old upstairs carpet. The beds were comfortable but the comforters were stained. The owner had a lot of rules posted throughout the house and throughout the l booking process. Sometimes you rent from someone you can tell gets a lot of joy from sharing their home with others. This was not one of those times.

End of Summer Getaway

We had a lovely time at the Hula House in late August. The home was conveniently close to the bay beach as well as the quaint town area. We all enjoyed relaxing on the porch in the evenings. We hope to return soon!

Hula House

Great location, right on Savannah road which is the main road going to the beach in Lewes. Only a couple of blocks from the beach. Easily walkable to the beach, Dairy Queen, convenience store, the marina, and downtown. Nice front porch for relaxing and people watching as people come and go to the beach. Near Bay Avenue, great for bike rides. Ideal if you have someone is has limited mobility since there is only a couple small steps into the home and a downstairs bedroom with a bathroom. Nice private patio in the back, great for morning coffee. Large kitchen with all the necessities and washer dryer.

Super stay at hula house

This property is very kitschy, the decor never wavers from the Hawaiian theme and it’s very cute. We had everything we needed and a short (very) walk to Lewes bay beach and Dairy Queen. Cute place great short walk to the beach!

The hula house is super cute and worked very well for our friends vacation. The fenced backyard was a must for 4 under 7! Walking to the beach was a breeze and the outdoor shower was amazing at keeping the sand at bay Annette was very prompt and communicative with any issue or concern we had!

Quick getaway to salt air!

My friends and I enjoyed the Hula house. Pictures do not do it justice. There are so many fun details and it is really clean and well maintained. Location was perfect. It was a short easy walk to the restaurants/shops along the canal and also to the beach on the bay. The bay beach was a pleasant surprise - beautiful sand and not crowded. Def would recommend for a long weekend or a quick getaway.

a beautiful home in a PERFECT location! super easy walking distance!

I'm recovering from a very extensive back surgery, so I have to use a cane. my friend's 12yo daughter also uses a cane. we were able to easily walk to the beach with our canes, the place was THAT close. saved so much hassle packing everything into the car and finding parking, and of course it saved us some money as well! the home was absolutely beautiful and very well maintained. it had a very nice size yard with a sturdy privacy fence, which was really nice, we spent a lot of time outside. the owners, in my experience, well the one I interacted with -- she was amazing and we started chatting on all kinds of subjects 😅 when something accidentally broke, I was extremely nervous to tell her but she was very understanding. (please don't go out of your way to test this out though! it was genuinely an accident on our part!) there was plenty of room for our troupe of three adults and three children. the bed i slept on in the downstairs bedroom was amazingly comfortable, and I often have a really hard time with strange beds. there was room for all of us to gather, and also for us to get space from each other when we wanted it. i would DEFINITELY return to this home and i hope to come back again in future summers! I highly recommend this home and its hosts 😊 we had a great experience and the home we stayed in was a HUGE part of that. thank you so much to the owners for letting us stay!

Great location to Lewes Beach!

This property is clean and the owner is accommodating, allowing us early check-in and also late check-out (which we couldn't take advantage of). The house has everything you need to do some light cooking and the fenced backyard was great for our 3 year old. The outdoor shower works well for rinsing off after the beach. It is a short walk to town, which we did many times. Good family spot!

Honesty is the best policy.

I'll do my best to present the facts as objectively as possible. Despite the great location close to the beach and convenient, large, sunny, private backyard, we will not be staying at Hula House in the future. A mislabeling and/or delayed update of the calendar on Vrbo created confusion during the booking process and resulted in a significant increase in the total cost of our stay when I booked about a year in advance. The host informed us of those rates being 'off-season' after the fact. There is a good amount of topless island girl artwork throughout the home - not a problem for us, but every family is different. There was a constant stream of ants in the kitchen - we learned the hard way not to leave fruit on the counter. Small, old grill did not spark/light. There was some broken outdoor furniture. Dishwasher did not work for the duration of our stay. After we had checked-out, apparently the cleaning crew came through and 'unlocked' it with the push of a button. No help from the hosts to resolve the dishwasher issue when we informed them of it early on during our stay: no suggestions and nobody on call to come troubleshoot, as the hosts live far away. Lots of rules, including a requirement to provide names, emails, and dates of visits if anybody outside of our family of four was going to spend a night or two in the large house. For example, in order for my parents to visit with us, the hosts needed their names and email addresses and dates of stay. Absolutely no more than (8) people are allowed to stay in the home, which is fair enough, but be prepared to provide a detailed list of all of your full-duration and drop-in guests. Air conditioning is provided by window units only, and the hosts have posted notes at each unit indicating the temperature and setting that each unit must be stay at for the duration of your stay. There is no ice maker so be sure to pick up a few bags unless you want to make it yourself with the (2) trays in the freezer. There is no garbage disposal. The stove is electric (in case you prefer cooking with gas); we did not use it.

Hulu house

Hulu house is a great vacation house. Walking distance to many things and a great front porch to sit and watch the beauty around you. My mother celebrated her 89th birthday there and the house was perfect for her to get around in. I Recommend Hulu house to anyone who wants to relax and enjoy.
