Beautiful location but let down by poor attention to detail.

This is a beautiful property in a stunning remote location. Unfortunately the experience was dampened due to several issues when we arrived at the property. 1. No welcome to the property, no advice on location or local amenities. 2. Paid a substantial fee for wood for the log burner which was very expensive considering it’s in a large storage shed and collected from local woodland and not kiln dried. On arrival we received a text to collect the wood ourselves from the shed.. despite the price there were no fire lighters and no kindling. With no advice on local amenities and being so rural we were left with no fire. 3. On going into the loft bedroom where my daughter was due to sleep it was covered in hundreds of flys. The windows were blacked out with swarms of them, fly matter on the beds, dead flys on the beds, in the sinks, sofa.. we text the owner of the property and to this day have not received any communication back, at the time not even an apology or a suggestion of coming and cleaning it for us. I was required to clean and disinfect all of this on arrival and then daily for the whole visit with no help. 4. Online list a cleaning fee you must leave Pay on leaving. Stating a fresh clean 5hrs before arrival, this had not been done. With fly carcasses over the house, dirty sink, unmade beds this was obvious. 5. No simple condiments such as salt and pepper, sugar… nothing was available and again being rural, no welcome on arrival we had no idea where to start. 6. There was an information pack on arrival however this was chaotic and NOT IN ENGLISH!! 7. The beds were unmade and only hand towels available despite the information advertised. 8. Being in a rural area is wonderful but having some guidance for exploring would have been so much better. We did not meet the owner of the property. He left the key inside the house and the house open and we were advised to do the same on leaving. This left me feeling somewhat uneasy. Overall for the price we paid for 6 nights was expensive, then a further high cost for wood, plus the tub, and despite the cleaning charge he later stated this too had increased. For an over all charge we would have expected to not have had these issues and been warmly welcomed and advised on the local area to ensure a wonderful experience. However this was not the case. This is a real shame as the property could offer so much more..

The Old Lady is a Grand Dame!

Mathieu's property is such a lovely place, and the surrounding acreage, including a beautiful creek and field just steps down from the house, is pretty magnificent. There was plenty of room for all of us (4) and everything was set up very nicely for us.

Super séjour !

Le domaine est un véritable petit coin de Paradis ! La demeure de caractère à été rénovée et décorée avec beaucoup de goût. Le jacuzzi est tip top (Bien chaud et bien propre )!!! Un grand merci à Mathieu qui est très arrangeant et sympathique... Nous reviendrons !

Wonderful getaway!

We absolutely loved our February stay - we made good use of the woods just below the house as well as visiting in the local area - the Mont St Michel, various apple and dairy farms (recommended by the host) and the D-Day landing beaches. Relaxing in the hot tub was a wonderful bonus! Many thanks.

A Charming Breath of French Air

We truly, truly enjoyed our stay at "The Old Lady" in La Bloutiere, France. The actual house is even lovelier than the website photos: it is pretty, clean and fresh smelling, romantic and comfortable with an ambiance that is unique to Normandy. We found the location to be very good with the well appointed town of VilleDieu Les Poules right nearby (be sure to go to the visitor center for lots of tips!) and major historical sites well within driving range. Host Matthieu was genuinely kind, accommodating and thoughtful, making us feel that we had "family" nearby at all times. In short, we loved our stay. Our message to readers: go there!

Tolles Objekt

Wer Ruhe und Entspannung sucht und dies noch gern mit einigen Annehmlichkeiten verbindet ist dort genau richtig. Das Objekt liegt in einem riesigen Grundstück in absolut ruhiger Lage. Wir könnten den Tag bei einem Frühstück vor dem Haus beginnen, wo wir Hasen, Füchse und auch einen Fasan beobachten könnten. Als Ausgangspunkt für Fahrten war es okay obwohl man doch einige Kilometer zurücklegen musste. Auto unbedingt erforderlich Das Haus ist wie beschrieben sehr gut ausgestattet und mit Liebe zum Detail ausgestattet. Ein winziges Manko ist nur, dass man doch den Haaren sieht das Hunde erlaubt sind. Sonst ein rundum gelungener Urlaub mit einem sehr netten und behördlichen Vermieter

Sehr schönes Haus

Das Haus ist ein absoluter Traum und die Bilder entsprechen den tatsächlichen Gegebenheiten. Wir haben zu 4.dort eine Woche verbracht und jede Minute genossen. Mathieu hat uns all unsere (Sonder)wünsche erfüllt und war immer zur Stelle und erreichbar, wenn wir ihm gebraucht haben. Wir können jedem, der auf der Suche nach einer ruhigen, abgelegenen Unterkunft ist, empfehlen dort zu übernachten. Der Whirlpool ist ein Traum und auch sonst hat es uns an nichts gefehlt. Das Einzige, was vielleicht ein bisschen schade ist, ist dass der Garten bzw das Grundstück nicht angelegt ist bzw nicht genutzt wird, sondern frei "wuchert" und dadurch nicht wirklich nutzbar ist. Dafür ist die Terasse vorm Haus und der Grillplatz aber sehr schön, was für uns vollkommen ausreichend war. Wir können es auf jeden Fall weiterempfehlen und würden auch wiederkommen!

Charming and comfortable house

We enjoyed a week at ‘The Old Lady’, a perfect place for two couples looking for a base to explore that area of Normandy. Matthieu met us on arrival and gave us a tour of the house, which is a credit to his renovating skills. Our plan included visiting St Malo, mont St Michel, Bayeaux, and the D Day beaches. Nothing is more than an hour away, and we found very little traffic, maybe as we risked a visit in March. Our host also suggested visiting Granville (Saturday morning market) and Villedieu-les-Poêles, and both were well worth some time exploring. The are good supermarkets within an easy drive, and the house has everything we needed. The weather in March is a little risky, but we scored more than half of our time with blues skies and very little rain. Would definitely do again and book this property.

Quiet country getaway

This is a very nicely re-done old farmhouse, incorporating some of the old characteristics with modern conveniences. We were greeted by one of the owners who had a fire built for us and showed us around. This home was larger than we needed for a couple, but was conveniently located to areas we wished to see (Normandy beaches about an hour away, Mont St. Michel about 45 minutes). The only downside was that certain areas were not as clean as they could be (the kitchen, for instance, with a sticky substance on the can opener, leftover grease in the microwave, and shelves that were a bit dusty). I am a clean freak, so some of this might not bother someone else. It is also helpful to remember that old houses are tough to keep clean, but these areas were ones that didn't have to do with age. The house sits on acreage, with cows right out front. There was no noise and beautiful sunrises. I would stay here again.

Trip of a lifetime!

We couldn't have chosen a better "base camp" for our family grand events celebration trip to France. Mathieu was responsive and his family home is spectacular. Should we ever venture that way again, we will definitely stay here - neighbors were amazing - what a wonderful place to call home!!

Cadre très sympathique et maison avec cachet

Nous avons passé un très bon séjour chez Mathieu, la maison à été rénovée avec goût et nous étions content de pouvoir faire un feu de cheminée pour se réchauffer le soir ! Le gîte est perdu dans la campagne, accessible grâce à un petit chemin, juste à côté d'une rivière qu'on entend depuis la maison. Nous reviendrons sans hésiter pour etre au calme, profiter de la nature et se faire de bons petits plats grâce a la cuisine très fonctionnelle.

Atmosphärisches Haus inmitten von Natur.

Wir verbrachten ein Woche in der "alten Dame". Der Vermieter begrüßte uns sehr freundlich am Ankunftstag. Das Haus steht allein inmitten zwischen Wiese und Wald. Der benachbarte Fluss ist bei geöffnetem Fenster zu hören. Es war wirklich sehr ruhig. Die Beschreibung und die Fotos geben unseren Eindruck wirklich gut wider. Insgesamt ist das Haus geschmackvoll und liebevoll eingerichtet. Die Einrichtung ist in gutem Zustand, alles war sauber und gepflegt. Das Doppelbett war sehr bequem. Es gab auch eine ganze Kiste mit Kinderspielzeug, super für unsere Kleinen. Villedieu-les-Poêles in 5 km Entfernung als nächstgelegene Stadt bietet alle nötigen Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und hat einen attraktiven Wochenmarkt. Alles in allem einfach empfehlenswert.

Amazing house with very warm and authentic atmosphere

It was an exciting experience to arrive at the house. From top of the hill we could see the house already in the valley, bathing in beautiful late afternoon sunlight. All photo's completely justify the place, it's just a magnificent house in relaxed and pretty surroundings. Very quiet and perfect for our 2 boys to play outside and discover the area around. The kitchen really has all necessities you can think of and on top of that the beds were very comfortable. All in all for us the perfect place for a relaxed holiday and we will for sure return to La Vieille Dame! Thank you Kelly and Mathieu for the service and easy communication.

A beautifull house

What a beautifull house. You can see that it is made with a lots off love. Everything you need and more you will find in the house. The surroundings are wonderfull. All the important places you can reach in max. 1 hour. I wish we could have stayed longer, but hopefully we will come back.
