Amazing property, great location and great service! I am here with the extended family, we have almost 10 people and the hotel has been super receptive to our needs and accommodative. The rooms are large and well maintained. Dhilini and Chamindi were specially great, they remembered our anniversary and tried to make it special.

The Fortress Resort and Spa is a five-star hotel. It boasts a prime location—if your travel destination is the famous "stilt fishermen," several such sites are just a two-minute walk from the hotel. From the hotel grounds, guests can enjoy panoramic, spectacular views of the ocean. The hotel offers top-notch service and world-class facilities. Its restaurant, however, is merely average; the variety of food available does not quite justify the price point.

We absolutely loved this gorgeous hotel !! The infinity pool and beach frontage is just spectacular, rooms and bathrooms are huge and beautiful ! Food was excellent, and staff very attentive ! The Christmas decor especially the lights around the hotel was breathtaking ! Would highly recommend !

Loved it

Loved my stay here. The staff was very friendly and good food. Pricier food the on the street but tasted good in the hotel. Beautiful to lay out on the sunbed and watch the ocean. Easy access from the hotel to a little beach area on the side. Water is clear and nice

Large style beach resort. Very good dining and drink options across the 3 restaurants. Initially stayed in a room with a plunge pool which was too humid for our liking but had a half day's stay in another room upstairs without a pool and it was very nice with great views of the facility, pool and ocean.

A beautiful hotel in a great location, staff excellent as was every meal, compliments to the chefs.. pool very good too. It’s a great hotel but a little dated and air conditioner is very loud but effective. Overal it’s still very good.

Amazing location but

Amazing location and friendly staff, however the shower area had mould. Food was overpriced and suggest Galle fort for lunch and dinner.

We love The Fortress

Our third stay at the Fortress, it never disappoints. Beautiful hotel and grounds, food is amazing with full menu room service. Can sit on a sun lounge at high tide and watch turtles feeding in the ocean in front of you or release baby turtles from the hatchery on site. What sets it apart is the service, our son is 5 and was so well cared for by the staff.

Just Amazing, it was the perfect environment to unwind and relax after a busy couple of weeks. I ended my vacation to Sri Lanka at the Fortress and I loved it. The staff service was exceptional, food was so delicious, I wish I had more room to enjoy more of it!! I can’t wait to come back with my family and friends. Thank you for your hospitality.

This hotel is outstanding in EVERY aspect, definitely 5 star. The service in every department is exemplary. The staff go beyond their call of duty to ensure your stay is perfect. The facility is constantly maintained to the very highest of standards and the location is perfect. The beach is fabulous and the view from the hotel superb. Can't wait to return and hopefully make it a yearly visit.

The hotel managment had changed from what we’ve understood.. its outdated, highly used and absolutely not worth the price. The food is SO EXPENSIVE. We’ve stayed in tons of 5 star hotels around the world and this is barely 3 stars

This may be the first time I've given a 10/10 review. I can't fault this property - the room, the staff, the food plus so much more were all fantastic. Even the beach also gets a 10/10 for being a long and quiet stretch without 'on the beach restaurants'. Totally peaceful. The Fortress was recommended to me by a friend and I look forward to passing it on and to coming back myself.

Hotel oozes class in Koggala

This hotel oozes class from the moment you walk through the door Rooms are lovely Staff are incredible Pool area idilic Food really good and nothing is too much trouble. We went out of season following our son’s cricket tour and this is a lovely base. We booked months ago and I should have checked the rates when I arrived as I had free cancellation. If I had have done I would have saved a lot. The hotel is having major refurb work done whilst we have been here but to be honest I haven’t really noticed.

This hotel oozes class from the moment you walk through the door Rooms are lovely Staff are incredible Pool area idilic Food really good and nothing is too much trouble. We went out of season following our son’s cricket tour and this is a lovely base. We booked months ago and I should have checked the rates when I arrived as I had free cancellation. If I had have done I would have saved 55% on what I would have paid as the hotel had a huge discount . The hotel is having major refurb work done whilst we have been here but to be honest I haven’t really noticed.

A fantastic stay at The Fortress Resort & Spa. The rooms were lovely — definitely book a sea view room if you can. One thing to note: if you leave the balcony doors open, expect the humidity to creep into the room pretty quickly. Small trade-off for that ocean view though. The service throughout our stay was excellent, and breakfast was genuinely one of the highlights of the day. There’s a huge variety available, with most hot items ordered à la carte. Pro tip: specify if you want multiple pancakes, sausages, etc., otherwise you may receive just one portion item at a time! We didn’t really use the hotel for lunch or dinner, mostly because we enjoyed exploring the coastline and supporting smaller local restaurants instead. The hotel menu looked very good, but pricing is naturally much higher than local spots nearby. The same applies to the spa. The beachfront pool was amazing — peaceful, relaxing, and very quiet during our stay, likely due to the current misconceptions about travelling to Sri Lanka. Honestly, we experienced absolutely no issues whatsoever. Tourist areas feel safe, organised, and well protected. Sri Lanka deserves visitors right now, so get yourself here — it’s totally worth it. The beach beside the hotel is beautiful to walk along, although the currents can be quite strong for swimming. There are safer swimming spots nearby if you travel a little. One of our favourite little surprises was regularly spotting sea turtles swimming in a calm patch near the hot
