Knaresborough itself is a friendly market town that has plenty to do for all the family, from antique shops, boutiques and lovely arts and crafts shops to dog friendly cafes, pubs and eateries. At the end of the day let your stresses melt away as you relax in the hot tub.
Scotton really can be enjoyed summer, winter, autumn or spring! Gable End Cottage is just a short ten minute walk away from the stunning Nidd Gorge. The woodland clings to a dramatic steep-sided valley. Its patchwork of habitats supports a wealth of wildlife and flora, and you’ll find relics of an intriguing history dating back to the Iron Age so perfect for romantic walks or dog walks.
Stroll through the ancient, broadleaved woodland and along the banks of the gently meandering river in the sheltered depths of the valley, or climb higher for stunning views towards the historic spa towns of Knaresborough and Harrogate. There are plenty of walks that start directly from Gable End Cottage. Or by following the river or through fields and pathways you can go further afield, enjoying the breath-taking Yorkshire countryside. This includes the Knaresborough Round, a route passing through the Nidd Gorge and a succession of villages to the north and east of historic Knaresborough. It can be divided into two stages or linked with the Harrogate Ringway to form a 36-mile route.
If you need to relax, you’ll also find a welcoming luxury wellness retreat in the village that offer amazing treatments. The Guy Fawkes Arms offers incredible food in a welcoming environment, and if you like crafts then there is a glass fusion studio that offers classes within the village and various craft workshops for children and adults offered in both Knaresborough and Ripley. With a playing field and children's play park adjacent to the property there really is something for everyone to enjoy all within a five-minute walk of the property.
The cottage has been recently refurbished and individually furnished to include comfortable beds with soft linen, new décor throughout, a power shower, a well-equipped kitchen and a quaint, cozy ambience.

It is easy to get to Scotton. There are several trains a day from London into York or Leeds that take just over 2hrs. Local buses run from Scotton to Knaresborough where you can also get to York, Ripon, Harrogate and Leeds and there are daily coach services direct to Knaresborough from London and other cities.
Scotton is an ideal base for visiting Yorkshire's many well-loved attractions and exploring the wonderful Yorkshire countryside. Knaresborough has a charm of its own, essentially unchanged and uninfluenced by the world. Centred around a bustling cobbled square, with a Wednesday market and independent shopping. Visitors from all over the world are impressed by the warm and friendly welcome of the residents of this gem of a town.
Enjoy a number of flat short walks through the town and along the river or travel a little further afield to explore the small pretty villages with their sandstone cottages. More strenuous walking can be found in the Nidd Gorge and the Knaresborough Round.
Scotton is centrally located in Yorkshire's "Golden Triangle", which provides the perfect opportunity to visit Harrogate and Knaresborough, or venture to the charming traditional market towns of Northallerton, Ripon and York, each with their own distinctive features, all very welcoming to visitors and any four legged friends.
There are plenty of things to do locally as well, from turning your hand at a new craft like pottery throwing, glass fusing or needle felting, having a day out at the Falconry UK Birds of Prey Centre, treating yourself to a delicious afternoon tea at Betty's of Harrogate or Harlow Carr after a stroll in the gardens, enjoying some shopping in Harrogate, sampling Ripley's famous icecream or spending a day at one of the many farms that we have within a short drive of the property.
