  • One of the northernmost towns along the coast in North Carolina, Duck is an idyllic town on the shores of the Currituck Sound. This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze. Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Wonderful Family home

1 week stay (7 adults, 5 kids). Excellent bedrooms & common areas (comfortable), Pool and hot tub both clean work well. Spacious side yard. Great location in Duck. Golf cart & private parking by the beach. Well appointed in all areas. Well maintained. Host & booking agents friendly and responsive.

Loved the house

We really enjoyed this house! It was clean and the beds were very comfortable. We did have some cold showers but we’ll definitely stay here again!

Christmas at the Beach

Property was as described. We spent Christmas weekend at the house with our extended family (10 people). Plenty of space for us all to spread out. Big kitchen so we could all eat meals together. The kitchen felt small and there wasn't a lot of space to store food. Short 5 minute walk to the beach. It was a very cold weekend so we didn't get a chance to use the outside decks but there was a lot of space outside to gather and enjoy the outside. Fenced in pool area and a separate fenced in yard so the dogs could run around.

Beautiful town… very quaint, lovely boardwalk with great shops. House was nice… use of golf cart to get to beach was an added bonus Concerning was the black mold around the air conditioning vents. Owners have reminders for guests to keep windows closed as mold will develop. We also found moldy shower curtains in a few of the bathrooms. We luckily didn’t need to use the air as the weather was cool. Overall a good trip… I would inquire about the cleaning of vents should I stay again in the area.

Spring Break

A good time with our family at a good place. It was a very pleasant 8 day week. Only problem was very cool weather as temperatures were near 60 or below. We have been on the OBX many times mostly at winter break with temperatures 10-15 degrees warmer sometimes, but weather is beyond the control of anyone. We enjoyed our time together very much and Tar Valier was a good fit for us.

Amazing stay, great location, super dog friendly!

We loved Tar Valier! My husband and I wanted a quick getaway after our wedding as our honeymoon is a couple of months out. It was more than enough space for two adults and even more fun for our pup! Huge kitchen, great outdoor space and having the golf cart for a quick ride down to the beach was key! Lots of wasps outside around the house and inside the screened in porch, but that was the only downfall. Happy they were outside:) otherwise we would definitely rent this home again in a heartbeat, especially with a large group!

House was awesome

Only reason this stay was not excellent was due to pool being closed when promised it would be open (main reason we rented this house) and the tvs in the bedrooms only have Netflix and they continue to search for service about every 5 minutes making watching tv in bed not a thing!! Other than that…The owner was awesome the staff was awesome and we had a great time. This is a great house to go too!! Would rent again for sure.

Great Location and Spacious

The house was clean, spacious for two families with small kids (lots of stairs, FYI). Location was great - 6 min walk to the beach and the use of the golf cart for transporting people and beach gear was a huge bonus! Kitchen was great and had all we needed for cooking. If staying with a big group and for longer than a few days, you will need to bring or purchase things like garbage bags, toilet paper and DW detergent. Overall, great stay for us.
