  • One of the northernmost towns along the coast in North Carolina, Duck is an idyllic town on the shores of the Currituck Sound. This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze. Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. We had a great New Years’s vacation at this place. Hands down the best part is the hot tub overlooking the sound - hot tub sunsets are a must! But the rest of the house was great too. Jamie was super responsive every time we had a question and that helped a lot. We did experience some WiFi issues - it was shotty most of the time but really only impacted us when we couldn’t watch a movie on TV. Our phones worked just fine. The house came equipped with everything we needed for staying in, cooking meals, and being comfortable. We will def be coming back!

Nice but needs a bit of cleaning.

Overall, the property is nice, although it definitely needs a good cleaning, particularly the outside. There were spiderwebs and spiders everywhere outside all over the furniture side of the house the doorways, especially the screened in porch was basically unusable. Host was very helpful and attentive when it came to checking in and communicating even allowed us to check in a little bit early, which was great. Only suggestion would be to give the house a good exterior cleaning and things would’ve been a lot better. Would recommend however, location was good. Also, the grass was not mowed when we got there. It was ankle tall. They did end up mowing it a couple of days after we got there and it looked a lot better.

Upon arrival, the house was right on the main road and was noticeably easy to find. We were able to check in early after an 11 hour drive. When we arrived the house was your topical waterside beach house, beautiful view of the sound and a hot tub. When entering our rooms the beds only had mattress covers and some pillows. We luckily brought some of our own from home but we didn’t realize we were supposed to bring our own sheets and blankets as well for 5 people. Then when we wanted to take a shower after being in the hot air and car for such a long time we also were told we were supposed to bring our own towels. Back in the car we had to go to find a Walmart to be able to go furnish our home for the next week. My child has a disability and requires internet and Bluetooth capabilities etc. Logged into DSL but it too was not working even after rebooting etc. I understand that it’s an island but this was never resolved so every night I had to worry was my child ok and was she going to have an emergency in her sleep and so I’ll just say I didn’t get much rest on my only vacation I was able to get away for this year. The bedrooms had transparent curtains so if you love being woken up at the crack of dawn with sun blaring in your face after finally getting to sleep with car lights passing in your windows until 2am, have fun. The house AC works well at night but struggles during the hot days and even though you have it set to 74 the house will go up to 86.Spiders everywhere

We were quite alarmed to walk into a warm house with an upright air conditioner BENTED out the sliding glass door ( closure of said door was black duct tape. The air conditioner window unit in downstairs bedroom was held in place with painters tape. The upstairs bedroom same. The WiFi password did not work. There was no written indication of beach access ( finally found a magnet on the side of the fridge that said we were Sound Sea subdivision) called the number for Jaime that was Lin the “ book” it went straight to “ the mailbox is full” sent a text to said number. Front great room very hot ( stand up thing does nothing and while downstairs bedroom DID get cold eventually, it was not enough to cool the front room) After no response from property manager, we called VRBO and they put us on hold while THEY tried to call property manger, to no avail. Spiders, atwo cockroaches. Yes we could have lived w a few bugs but the ac and no wifi was definitely an issue. House looks great in the pictures but IT NO LONGER LOOKS like that! It’s a shame because pier was nice and deck was nice and was close to the beach but until the Owner invests in REAL AC and does a good cleaning and insect treatment and gets blackout blinds for the window ( not bamboo shades and painters tape) I would not rent this.

Everything was pretty nice, we loved the location, & the layout of the house was good. The wi-fi password was incorrect in the info provided by the host- therefore we could not watch tv or use anything requiring wi-fi which was NOT what we came expecting. The host COMPLETELY ignored us AND VRBO when we contacted the host directly & VRBO could not get the host to respond either. The microwave also isn’t working either. I don’t appreciate having to make videos to prove things aren’t working that should be-while I’m on vacation. VRBO isn’t for me-there’s too much lack of accountability when something goes wrong. No refund- if the host & info is incorrect, they’ve got your $$ & no one really cares! Still a nice place-I suspect the internet got cut off by the provider & that’s why they refused to communicate with us or VRBO- but it’s a nice place you just better be prepared the wi-fi & microwave might not really work.

Pictures are not accurate for the house. You cannot see the water unless you’re standing in one particular corner of the deck only and house was filthy. Spiders and ants were constant. We were always having to put food away and clean countertops. House was not dusted windows were filthy and on top of that customers are asked to vacuum the house before they leave so obviously no one’s cleaning it. Could not enjoy eating outside on the deck, because the road noise was awful-no restful sleep the entire time we stayed because of the road noise. Pay very close attention to reviews.

4th of July stay

The property is a great location. On the sound for fishing,crabbing, kayaking etc., short walk to the beach as advertised. Short drive to cute little town of Duck. The bedrooms would benefit from some kind of black out shades. Can see headlights from the street traffic throughout the night and the sun shines through first thing in the morning. Would also benefit from fans to decrease the noise of the street, some ceiling fans in the home are cause more squeaking old noise then being beneficial to use. Would also be beneficial for all if the house was cleaner. The air ducts are full of dust which decreases the air flow throughout the house decreasing the efficiency of the central air. Utensil tray was very dirty…had to wash all utensils and leave on the side during the stay. With some low cost upgrades and cleaning this place would be wonderful. Being charged a cleaning fee is fine with me if the place is clean and I’m not asked to vacuum at the end of my stay.

Dirty!

This house has great potential, but the upkeep and cleanliness are bad. Since the newer reviews did not mention uncleanliness I thought perhaps, the owners had taken the advice of previous reviews and deep cleaned their property. I was wrong! The decks are dirty and the screened in porch where the grill is, is so bad it’s unusable! Cobwebs, dust, spiders in almost every corner. Ceiling fans black with dust. Walls, lamps, chair rails covered in dust. Windows dirty. Porches covered in cobwebs, spiders and tree debris. Had to clean the deck chairs and a corner of the deck before we could even sit down. No linens at all in the house so I had to clean with the paper towels I brought. Washer and dryer are not in the house but underneath in a small storage area which is covered in cobwebs. Had to wear a baseball cap in there to keep the cobwebs out of my hair. Nothing about the checkout procedure here on the VRBO app, but when you get to the house and look at their book, they ask you to vacuum the house before you leave. Really?? After I had to practically clean it before I could even start vacation. Beware folks, the owners are not paying attention to the reviews. Way too expensive! The cleanliness of the property overshadowed anything good here. If the property owners decide to deep clean please post a response here so other folks will know you’ve cleaned up. It’s really such a shame.

Another Year of Relaxation

Many things to recommend this rental -- location on sound and near beach, well-maintained hot tub, deck, general coziness. Although many other houses are gargantuan, this one is perfect for our small family. Have appreciated the opportunity to use the Sunfish sailboat (with permission!).
