  • One of the northernmost towns along the coast in North Carolina, Duck is an idyllic town on the shores of the Currituck Sound. This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze. Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The house was delightful. It was a girl cousins (4 adults) trip and the location was perfect. We had plenty of room and the house was very well appointed with everything we needed to enjoy eating in! The only thing we would suggest is stronger trash bags!! Thank you!

We had a wonderful time at Hero’s Retreat in beautiful Duck.The house was comfortable and the pool/hot tub was perfect! We opted to rent the golf cart and we are glad we did so because it helped tremendously getting back and fourth from the beach. We would absolutely rent again.

Heroes Retreat

I want to start off by saying that this property is fantastic, as advertised, and a magical place that we will surely return to visit. 5 stars overall! There were only a few very minor issues with the door code at check in, and response times on what the new codes were over the weekend. It was nothing major and certainly didn’t impact our stay in a major way. We loved it, and would love to come back.

Accurate listing, a few issues

Very nice house! Was very walkable to ocean, sound, boardwalk, restaurants and shopping. A few issues we didn't care for were, the outdoor shower did not work, the trash was never picked up from the previous week and smelled terrible, it made the pool unusable for the first 3 days, the dishwasher was full of dirty dishes, the dining room terrible was dirty and all but 1 of the top level floors were dirty (bedroom was fine, all others needed cleaned) we still made the best of it and would definitely go back to Duck, would probably use a different rental property management company ither than Kees though.

Great time !!!

We had a really great stay. The house was very clean. Management was very prompt with our request. Restaurants and shops are right around the corner. The beach is a short walk. We would recommend this home.

Perfect Location

This was my first time visiting OBX. I really enjoyed my time in the area. My friends/family loved our stay at Heroes Retreat. It was beautiful and super clean. My favorite part was having our own pool and hot tub as well as being in walking distance ( a little less than 0.5 mile) from the beach. The neighborhood was quiet and safe. I would definitely stay here again.

Heroes Retreat

Great property! Plenty of room for everyone. Pool was great, but hot tub wasn’t working and there was a bar nearby that played live music nightly. Location was good in terms of being close to everything on main road, but not as private as we had hoped.

First time to Outer Banks

We had a great first trip to Outer Banks....The house was the perfect location for easy access to restaurants/shops/boardwalk.....you could hit multiple restaurants,ice cream, souvenir shops, bike rentals, all within 1-2 blocks from the house. Now, beach access was the issue....it's a 10 min walk from the house to the beach...Easy walk but not what I had intended. I would drive the family/toys/chairs to the beach and drop off.....then drive myself back to the house and walk back....It worked fine just not the most convenient thing to do every day. There is no parking at the beach area (cars or golf carts). We had a perfect stay otherwise and very happy overall with the rental property!
