Literally an easy 5 minute walk from one of the South side's prettiest and most under-rated beaches (Keawakapu), Mango Cottage delivered big-time on location. Traveling with our two adult kids, it allowed us to come and go to a great beach as we pleased.
The cottage itself was clean, spacious and generally well-provisioned. However, it is on the spartan side, both inside and out. From the outside it is a basic clapboard structure with small windows that can make the place feel cave-like. Though there was a lovely grassy back yard with a graceful tree, the deck itself was small and there was only a small round cocktail table available for the four of us. With a bigger table and something other than a single harsh outdoor spotlight providing light, we'd have loved to be able to actually eat our meals outdoors. Instead, we ate all of them inside. (On the plus side, the propane bbq was almost brand new.) The outdoor shower was a big hit; but it would have been nice to have had more than 2 hooks to hang our towels .
These may sound like quibbles, but really they would be so easy to fix and we hope the owners consider doing so. Making the outdoor area more user-friendly would go a long way to make Mango Cottage 5 stars across the board. In the meantime, it's still a really well-located and functional place to stay.
