Condo was OK, but didn't care for Kona

The condo was as pictured – right on the ocean, with waves crashing below our lanai. It is in a location where you can walk to a number of restaurants; and it has parking (I forget if we paid extra for it or if it was included) – parking here is pretty limited, so we were glad to have that. The condo is also on a street that angles off from the main road, so it is quiet and gets little traffic.Overall, this was an OK place to stay, but there was one big issue and a couple smaller ones. * The big issue is that we didn’t care for Kona that much. It is quite crowded (cruise ships dock here frequently), and if you are walking any significant distances you’ll sometimes be on sidewalks, and sometimes in something like a bike lane along the edge of a busy road. We like to walk, but this was not that pleasant a place to do so. Your mileage will vary, of course. Obviously, this is not the condo’s fault. Two things that keep the condo from getting five stars is that * We could hear the footsteps of the upstairs neighbors; I assumed they were heavy-footed, until the downstairs neighbor knocked on our door and expressed the same sentiments. That is a first for us, so I think the floors are pretty thin. * The apartment was a little musty (as is often the case in humid tropical environments) when it was closed up. One of us is very sensitive to mold and odors; the other was not bothered, but as we kept the condo open to the air it was not a problem.

Very nice

We loved our unit at Hale Kona Kai. Views were amazing. Would recommend replacing the chairs on the lanai as they are rusting out. Shelves in the refrigerator door were broken. Also would recommend putting a grab bar in the shower.

They thought of every little thing!

This place was fantastic. Super clean, everything you need in a kitchen, unbeatable view, even some Kona coffee! We had everything we needed here and more. It was perfect.

Get away

The condo, the property manager and the bed were great. The view was breathtaking and the sound of the surf was amazing. Had some issues but they were taken care of. It had an elevator which was a must but the pool was down due to being updated so that was disappointing. Would stay again.

Beautiful place to stay.

This property is absolutely amazing! Our lanai was right over the ocean where we got to watch a sea turtle, numerous fish, and beautiful sunsets. Very close to town and within walking distance to restraunts and shopping.

Great spot!

A great spot just outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown Kona, and right on the water! Can't beat the view, and it's an easy stroll into town. Also a cute little beach about 3 mins down the road. The apartment is simple, but has everything you need for a comfy stay, and the view from the lanai doesn't get a lot better!

Awesome Location

-Location. The condo is very close (walking distance) to all of the restaurants along the main drag, but slightly removed. We enjoyed being able to walk to dinner and drink every night while other scrambled for the limited parking spaces. Honestly it was perfect for us because the hotel next door blocks all the noise. We could only hear the ocean. -Building. The building is clearly dated. We rode the elevator the first day and were a little uneasy inside. We took the stairs the remainder of our trip. Laundry is $2 to wash and $2 to dry. I was able to get a roll of quarters from a nearby hotel. The parking stalls are oddly arranged. The parking spot assigned the the room is on the opposite side of the building. It seems like it would make more sense to switch with someone who has a unit on that side of the building, but it wasn’t a deal breaker. Room. The condo was perfect for two people. Honestly the view was my favorite part. Anytime we had downtime in the room, I found myself sitting on the balcony. The window in the bedroom looks like it has rust or something spilled on it from the outside. Initially it made me feel a little dirty until I realized it wasn’t on the inside. Hopefully that gets fixed. Then the bed felt soft to me trouble sleeping. Overall, if your looking for somewhere safe, close, and has a good view I would recommend staying here. We enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

The central air conditioning has been out for the last few years. The pool is not heated. The outside needs updating , painting and repair, termites in the wood work. Needs someone who cares a outthe property to take care of it!

Nice relaxing vacation!

The condo was clean, comfy, and well equipped. And the view and sound of ocean waves are unbeatable! The location is very walkable and the beaches within 1 block are lovely. Included parking was super helpful. I would definitely visit again!

Fantastic place.

The unit itself was good, no issues really. What made it fantastic was the view was absolutely unbeatable - corner view of the ocean on the 3rd floor. It was also basically in the middle of downtown so we just walked to everything. Also very appreciative of the amenities included - the umbrellas and chairs made our beach trips way better!

Convenient location to downtown Kona highlights. Perfect for wave watchers.

On-site parking providedin an area of Kona where parking is a premium. Short walks to shops, restaurants, and bars. King size bed was very comfortable and lanai furnishings made our time out there pleasant. Boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, beach chairs, and small cooler were much appreciated. Kitchen was decently stocked but we really only ate breakfast and lunches there. Could use some USB jacks for charging - glad we brought our own cords and bricks.

Wonderful lanai

In the midst of it all. Great view. We could actually see fishes and eels in the tide pool from our balcony. Grounds were very well kept. The building management were friendly and very accommodating. Highly recommend

Great view, but noisy neighbors

You cannot argue the view from the lanai....simply amazing. The outdoor furniture was comfy too and we spent most of our time out here. That being said, the interior needs some maintenance and updating(paint peeling from ceiling from previous water damage). There was always moisture and condensation on everything (walls, flooring, the bed and couch....). We have stayed in other units in this complex and not had this issue. Lastly, being on the 3rd floor you will have people above and below you. Normally that isn't an issue, but this time the people staying above us liked to stomp-walk around the condo and move furniture qround....constantly.....and at all hours of the day AND night. After 24 solid hours of this, we notified management to see if there was anything to be done, but it took a day to hear back. I understand it is kind of out of their hands, but it did turn us off of this particular condo, along with the major moisture issues. Not a totally bad experience, but for the price you can get better elsewhere.
