The room itself and furnishings were a little above average for a rental of this price range. The bed was comfortable. It was great to be able to do a couple small loads of laundry and save some money by making some meals ourselves. We didn't use the pool, but the hot tub was nice and the small beach in front of the building was very pretty and peaceful. The host was helpful and concerned about us during the kona storm. The view from the balcony, and even the living area during the storm, were absolutely unbelievable. We spent many hours just pointing out the endless numbers of whales and sea turtles. We even saw a Hawaiian monk seal swim by. I don't think I could ever stay at a hotel in the area after seeing how far from the water they were compared to our room. Will be back to the Mahana!

I have been traveling to the Hawaiian Islands almost annually for over 50 years, and this could be the best place in which I have ever stayed. If you are looking for amazing views, a quiet building, a great pool for relaxing, direct beach access, and amazing views of whales, turtles, Lanai, Molokai and sunsets, then look no further. I had planned to cook most of my meals and was pleased to find a kitchen that was incredibly well-equipped. Seriously. This included every appliance I needed, a good set of sharp knives, a coffee grinder in addition to the coffee maker, and plenty more. The unit has beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, a cooler, and everything you could possibly need for your stay. The boardwalk from this hotel down to Kahekili and beyond was so convenient for evening strolls. A great fish market is walking distance. The communication was phenomenal, from the day I reserved the unit until after I had departed from Maui. I really can’t say enough about this unit. I will definitely be back.

Beautiful view from both the living room window and the balcony! I saw turtles, whales, dolphins, and birds. Enjoyed having the boogie boards, chairs, cooler, and laundry to use. Great to have the kitchen to make meals so we didn’t have to eat out every day.

Mahana Penthouse

12th floor, Ocean front amazingness! Although small (perfect for two), the condo has everything thing required for a short or long term stay. We watched hundreds of whales, turtles, dolphins cruise by from the balcony and enjoyed fantastic sunsets every night. Host went out of their way to communicate and help with the booking process.

Great place to stay! We really enjoyed watching the whales and turtles from the condo, which was such a treat. The condo was clean, comfortable, and very quiet and provided everything we needed during our stay. Highly recommend!

A lot of fun

I really like how close to the water this condo is and you get to see whales and boats everyday from balcony. Great location walking distance to Dukes for dinner, breakfast and drinks. Had a lot of fun.

Quality all around

We’ve stayed at the Mahana many times and this was the nicest unit we’ve ever rented. It was furnished and stocked like it was meant for the owner. No problems. Good quality appliances, dishes, mattress, TVs, WiFi. The view on the top floor was exceptional especially when watching the turtles and sunsets. Host was very responsive and had lots of beach chairs and toys available.

Spectacular view, disappointed in lack of essentials

Gorgeous view and perfect location, would be 5 stars across board but disappointed in certain aspects, especially as compared to other units in which we’ve stayed in the Mahana at equivalent rates. Our stay was two weeks. Very frequent VRBO travelers. Found couch cushions and table chair upholstery in need of cleaning. Most disappointing was condo lacked certain items that are VRBO basics, in our experience. We felt a little “nickeled and dimed” having to buy these items for ourselves after asking property manager twice and receiving no response — e.g., no basic cleaning product to clean countertops and glass table after each instance of cooking/eating use; no brush, sponge, or other scrubbing pad was provided for kitchen sink, to clear stuck on food from dishes before putting in dishwasher or to clean items not appropriate for dishwasher; no salt, not even a plastic shaker, in cupboards. Also, kitchen utensils are comparatively sparse for cooking, for those who enjoy it when VRBO’ing — as an example, two micro-tiny cutting boards in kitchen, not even big enough to slice fruit or vegetables. Master bed had no bedspread, instead was covered only by two white top sheets with a thin blanket in between. On 12th day of our stay was a knock on the door, a plastic sack with what turned out to be a bed spread was handed to my wife; delivery person said it had been cleaned for the owner who would be staying in the unit soon but that we were “free” to use it if we wished. Just odd.

OUTSTANDING

I don’t know where to begin but I’ll start with the view perfect, amazing, breathtaking, wow! Large lanai with beautiful view, access to lanai from living room and bedroom, immaculate, kitchen has all the essentials, rainfall shower, beach essentials (ex: boogie boards, snorkel gear, cooler, etc.). I wish I could have stayed longer, the sunrise/sunset was beautiful and we were lucky enough to see whales several times throughout our stay. I have beautiful memories and will definitely return on our next trip.
