I stayed at this unit for 9 nights with my family of four (two adults and two kids, ages 20 and 13). I was initially a bit hesitant because the most recent review was from December 2024, so I wanted to leave a more up-to-date review.If possible, I would rate the stay 4.5 stars.PositivesThe location is excellent — close to the water and within walking distance of Times grocery store and several very popular eateries. We were able to see turtles and whales from the balcony. The kitchen is well-stocked and we used it regularly, as well as the BBQ grill. The on-site laundry facility was convenient, and the site keep the grills super clean. There is plenty of common space in the unit for everyone to relax. We played board games and read some of the books available in the unit.MinusesThe biggest downside for us was the internet. Outside of about 2–5am, the connection was extremely slow — often too slow to even load Google. After a few days, I contacted management and was advised to restart the router. The speed improved briefly, then returned to being slow again. Several reviews mentioned that the unit is a bit dated. This wasn’t a major issue for us, and the kitchen has been nicely updated. However, some kitchen utensils could use replacement — the plastic spatulas are partially melted and would be better in a heat-resistant material like silicone. There were also quite a few small ants, though they didn’t really bother us once we got used to them.

Nice condo, but needs a little refreshing!

The location was good and it was amazing to hear the waves all night and we did see whales oftenThe condo was bright and spaciousHowever, there were several upgrades that needed to be done, as in the stove burners did not really work properly(when it was on low, the burner was actually on high) new frying pan is needed, some dirt and filth along the doors, several stains were noted on the bedroom carpet and the whole place needed a bit of a refresh as in a paint job and new floor mats, the lampshade in the living room was all ripped with rust, the cushions on the plastic chairs on the deck had mould on them. This might sound petty, but for what you pay I would’ve expected a little higher standard. There were areas bubbled out on the walls, and the whole place seemed kind of dowdy.Also is difficult to snorkel out front as there is always waves coming in and there is zero clarityHaving said that there are some grocery stores nearby and some food trucks

Great stay!

We had a wonderful stay. The location is very convenient to Ka’anapali and all of the beaches on the west part of the island. We watched whales from the balcony each morning and woke up to the sounds of waves crashing. The kitchen was stocked with anything we needed and facilities were well maintained.

Comfortable stay with an incredible view

Our family had a lovely time at Maui Sands. The check-in process was easy and the property manager was quick to respond to any questions we had. The view really is amazing and the water easily accessible in the morning during low-tide (especially fun for kids). The rental had all the amenities you need and lots of space so that a family of five never felt cramped. Once ceiling fan was not operational but there were several floor models to use - and the ocean breeze allowed us never to turn on the AC unit. Parking is tight so do note if you are driving a large vehicle (it is doable - just requires more time backing in). Overall, a really nice, relaxing stay.

Beautiful Oceanside experience

Beautiful condo right next to the water. Quiet, private beach access with amazing sunset views. Highly recommend staying here. Great communication with your host. You won’t be disappointed.

Best place to stay!

The location and accommodations were 5 star! We loved watching the whales everyday. The view to wake up to was our favorite. And thank you for having AC! The condo was perfect for our 3 kids and had everything we could need for the beach day! Couldn’t have been happier!

Whales, whales everywhere!!

We really enjoyed our stay here and the location was great. Condo is well appointed and the view is fabulous. Although there is no usable beach, the stairs down to the water made the ocean very accessible. You have to step over a portion of a reef to be able to swim which can be very tricky at times., and this would not be possible for those guests with mobility issues. I enjoyed exploring the reefs and saw various species of fish and sea creatures. One day an endangered monk seal even swam past the complex. Maui during whale watching season is a must! We could even see whales breaching from the unit. There are parts of the condo that can use some updating and the bedrooms did get warm since the only A/C unit was in the family room. There are ceiling fans and several floor fans available to help keep things cool. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again. Thank you!

Amazing stay at Turtle Haven!

Absolutely amazing experience! The owner was so kind and responsive, and left a very thorough welcome packet. The property was spacious, clean, and comfortable! We sat on the balcony and watched whales, and walked down to the beach only feet away where you could snorkel. The whole condo was fully stocked and we wanted for nothing—there was even snorkel equipment! We stayed at a resort for our last half of the trip and honestly, we would have stayed at Turtle Haven the whole time. It was an amazing stay and this property is very well maintained and comfortable! 5 stars all around.

What a location!

For those who are looking for a full immersion into Maui’s ocean from your VRBO, this is it. The lanai has massive sliding doors that make you feel like your walking out onto the water (they are surprisingly sound proof when they’re closed) and you hear the waves like you’re laying on the beach. We watched the whales in the morning as the sun would start to touch the islands of Lanai and Molokai. We saw at least a dozen whale breaches while having breakfast and there were always turtles enjoying the waves right in front/below us. It’s such a convenient distance from stores and a short drive to Lahaina. It’s a great location on the island especially if you want to explore the north road. The property was clean when we arrived and communication with the property management was fantastic. We absolutely loved our stay and cannot wait to come back!

Felt like home!

My family and I had a great stay! The condo felt like home and it was equipped with everything you need for a memorable vacation. The condo is close to stores, farmers market, restaurants and food trucks! The view was breathtaking! Perfect place to watch the whales breach and the sea turtles play! We also had a great time swimming and snorkeling right outside the condo! Would recommend this place for sure!!

Everything was as advertised. The condo itself was great, clean, well stocked with items and very well organized. The condo complex was tidy and quiet and it was close to beaches and amenities. Hostess was quite helpful with things and would I would rent from her again without hesitation.

Location is unbeatable!

What a view! The grounds are beautiful and the black-bottomed pool was warm and clean. Turtles are swimming in the water right outside the building. Everything was clean and tidy in the unit. Great restaurants are in walking distance and easy to get take-out from. Thanks for the wonderful stay!

Great Ocean View

We've been to Maui several times and this property has one of the best ocean views. The lanai was by far the best feature. It feels a bit like like a rustic cabin on the ocean. The bedrooms were quite warm at night, with just one AC unit in the living room that would turn off at night.

Wonderful place to stay and explore West Maui

Great all around condo to visit West Maui. Fantastic lanai views of the ocean, rainbows almost daily, sunset, tides, etc. This is what you're paying for! Heather was awesome in communication and the condo had everything we needed. If you REALLY need AC, please note that there is only one window AC for the whole unit. We didn't use it as we were outside all day and in the evenings, with windows open and fans going, it was plenty comfortable. Lots of ceiling fans and floor fans are in the unit so you can move a lot of air! Enjoyed the daily white pigeons who visited us on the Lanai and were very comfortable with people.

Seriously, it IS like sleeping on the beach.

I loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves! We sat on the balcony and watched sea turtles in the surf during high tides and checked out all of the sea life in the tide pools during low tide. Easy walking distance to a nearby larger sandy beach. The space was comfortable and clean. It does get warm in the afternoon as the sun hits the windows, so don't forget to pull down the shades in the living room to keep things cool. Between the ceiling fans and having windows open, it was comfortable for sleeping at night without using the window AC.

Magical Stay in Maui

Heather was so helpful and accommodating for our little family (with our toddler) during our entire stay. The stay was absolutely amazing, breathtaking, wonderful. Photos really don’t do it justice as it’s more beautiful than we could’ve imagined. Whale watching was absolutely unreal, and the grounds were so well cared for and beautiful. Loveeeeddd every minute of it, would stay again and again and again!

Maui sands stay

We loved our stay at Maui sands. We were traveling with our 2 year old, and everything was easy - there was a high chair and pack n play, even beach toys in the closet. There is a pool on property and we loved watching the whales from the balcony. It was close to walking trails, restaurants, and plenty of beaches.

Turtle Haven is heaven!

Our original stay for scheduled for June 2020, which of course was cancelled due to Covid. It turns out to have been a blessing, because our January stay happened during whale season! We sat on the lanai every day and watched countless whales in the distance! Once we saw a huge sea turtle swim by! The condo was nice and roomy for our family of 5. Heather was the best hostess you could ask for! She was accommodating and gracious, full of helpful information. We definitely would come back to Turtle Haven.

Really enjoyed our time!!

We booked this condo because we loved the idea of sitting out on the lanai and it did not disappoint. You can't be any closer to the ocean. We spotted whales every morning we were there. The condo was as advertised. It is not super up to date, but we knew that going in. The common area was bigger than I anticipated, and the entire condo worked very well for our family of five (three teenagers). The communication and check in process was great. The kitchen had most of what we needed, but we could not find a pizza cutter, pizza pan or colander but we made due with what was there. Our teenagers appreciated the smart TV. Overall we felt very comfortable and were very pleased with our choice.
