"My partner, dog and I came to sugar island to experience a new place in the UP and we will certainly be returning to Sweet Retreat!! Sheri and Jeff were the most accommodating of hosts and truly go above and beyond to ensure everyone’s comfort and fun. We used the bikes on the property and were lucky enough to take a pontoon cruise with the hosts our last night. The cabin was absolutely adorable and had everything we needed. I couldn’t recommend staying here enough! We can’t wait to come back!"

"Property was a ways from town and had to take a ferry to get there, but my fault for not reading description carefully. Cabin was exceptionally clean and very well stocked towels, bedding, cooking accessories. Owner responded in a timely manner."

"Wow! We were absolutely amazed by the wonderful hospitality of these hosts! They made sure we had everything we needed and provide such a peaceful and gorgeous setting on Sugar Island. The house was perfect for our large family and everyone was very comfortable. The small store on site has ice cream, cold drinks and unique treasures. "

"There was a LOT going on around us. We saw eagles constantly. My wife told me she saw a beaver swim within 3 ft. of the pier. I just knew she was wrong and this was going to end up being a muskrat, but no! It was an actual beaver. This dude was a common occurrence all week! We saw loons, various kinds of ducks, blue herons, and sandhill cranes.These HUGE fish would jump clear out of the water and sound like kids jumping in when they came crashing back into the river. "We stayed for a week with our three kids (11, 15, 17) and had an AMAZING time! Found plenty to do within 60 minutes, and also enjoyed 3/4 days just hanging at the house. The beach was better than we imagined, watching the freighters was a family affair, the ferry was a breeze and evening fires on the sandy beach was a favorite. We also saw the aforementioned red fox on several occasions, which was cool. We brought our kayaks and loved taking them out. Would love to plan a return trip!"

"The cabin had all the wow factors you could ask for. Peace and quiet, beautiful log cabin, great firepit area, critters up close you got to watch, ships to watch go by within a real short distance and owner's who made us feel like friends. So good a stay our son and grandkids asked if we could do it again every year! Thanks for making our vacation wonderful!"

"This property exceeded my expectations. The room sizes were very large and high ceilings. It truly is a lodge. So many thougtful amenities, right down to makeup towels. There were so many random toys, games and movies, along with the property amenities. The location was ideal. When we had a question, the owners got right back to us. Great communication."
