Small and Friendly

Lovely small guest house in a great location. The place was nice and clean and room comfortable. The owners were very helpful and made time to chat to guests at breakfast were not interrogators as mentioned in a previous review. Parking was a problem at times, there were some empty spaces just up the road from the Mellstock but if you had to pay as I did on one occasion it was just 5£ for 24 hours. Overall a lovely stay in a smalll and friendly place.

Hotel.com misleading regarding parking on site.

First problem was told no parking but public pay & display car park a few hundred meters down the road. This turned out to be full. The owner advised us to park on the double yellow lines outside the b&b!!. Hotel.com states that there is on site free parking. It was only on the strength of this statement that we booked this b&b. We moved our car to a friend's house who then ran us back and forth. The owner told us that he had asked Expedia to change their website regarding the carparking situation. The bed was lumpy, hard and very uncomfortable. We slept on top of the duvet for comfort and used the towells to cover us! The best part of the stay was the breakfast which was excellent. As we had a 300+ mile journey to make, we were certainly not refreshed after our 1 night stay.

Clean, Good location.

The accomodation was very clean, which was brilliant. The breakfast was fabulous and cooked very fresh on the morning with a wide choice of options. Covid 19 measures were great and it felt very safe. The reason for not a top rating was the overall stay was a little bit let down by an uncomfortable bed, a boiling hot room and a broken window which would not close properly and the room was situated next to a loud road which kept us awake at night. I also felt a bit interrogated by the owner when I came down for breakfast which unfortunately did not leave a great first impression.

Nice guesthouse with friendly owners. Not much to do in Combe Martin and struggled to find places to eat of an evening.

5 star stay

Only stayed for one night, but would be happy to stay for longer. The room was very clean and comfortable. I slept very well bit my partner would have preferred a softer pillow. The breakfast was excellent, lots of options including continental and full english. The owners are lovelt, very friendly and helpful. There is a beautiful terrace and garden that overlooks the bay. To note, during Covid we were not able to park on site as cars need to be parked end to end and the owner would usually move them around himself and this is not possible at the current time. There is on street parking and a car park nearby. Overall 5 star stay

Very comfortable and welcoming

Hosts made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was excellent. We had a king bed in room 5 which was only advertised as a double.

Great stay

Best night sleep I’ve had in ages. Owners were very welcoming. The room we stayed was clean and very comfortable. There’s a nearby car park, 2 minute walk away. Overnight parking at £5. If you’re lucky, there’s on street parking available too.

Very welcoming

We had a great nights sleep and a really lovely breakfast. The hospitality was amazing. We were able to use the drying room for our wet shoes. We were made to feel very welcome and made to feel at home.

Comfortable hotel in a good position

Comfortable and clean, only few minutes down hill to the beach and town. Friendly owners and good breakfast. There is a small bar with a terrace and 2 further terraces in the garden. Lovely outlook

Lovely, clean hotel close to the beach.

Only stayed the one night so was travelling light, luckily this hotel was stocked with everything we needed for an overnight stay. Lovely and clean, friendly helpful owners and very close to the beach.

Welcoming and well decorated hotel

The hospitality was excellent! We were made to feel very welcome and offered a cup of tea. Bedroom and bathroom very good! The room had a lovely view! A 5 minute walk to the sea so well positioned. Only negative being that the mattress was soft and we were up watching TV for 2-3 hours during the night.

Mixed experience at Mellstock House

Comfortable room. Room was very clean. Quality linens. Impersonal reception. Breakfast was of poor quality.
