We had a fantastic stay! The Highland Base Lodge was spacious, cozy and well thought out. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of storage for luggage. The living area with lovely views out the windows was very relaxing after a day of hiking. It was worth the splurge and it wouldn't have been hard to stay another night. Plenty of options at breakfast and dinner was well prepared with good sized portions. Suggest making a reservation because it can get booked.

A beautiful hotel and setting with great amenities. We did the e-mountain biking and guided hike, which were lovely - the guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Given that the hotel is remote and there are no food options, the restaurant and food was very expensive (but good). The baths were very nice. The room was comfortable but VERY HOT (this is not unique to this hotel, but a thing at all Iceland hotels we visited). Staying up at Highland Base was a highlight of your trip to Iceland.

We loved our stay, complimentary breakfast and the hot spring facility provided by hotel. We would stay there again if we go hike in Highland.

Our stay was so wonderful, we booked an extra night! The property and rooms are absolutely beautiful, and the food is delicious. The baths are wonderful and overlook the surrounding mountains and river. But the best part of our stay was the kind and helpful staff. We got a hole in a tire on our way there, and the front desk immediately called for their maintenance person to help us out.

Sehr gern wieder

Einziges grösseres Hotel in der Gegend im Hochland. Es ist relativ neu und liegt fantastisch, wirklich ein Traum. Es gibt wirklich nicht auszusetzen, der Preis für eine Übernachtung ist halt recht hoch. Wir haben es trotzdem nicht bereut und können es nur weiterempfehlen.

The property is located in a beautiful location. The geothermal pool was fantastic and the hiking trails offered spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. The hotel itself is also beautiful. The rooms are nicely appointed and have a warm, yet modern feel. However, the service was not quite what I hoped it would be. The staff seemed overwhelmed with guest requests at times. I think this is likely due to being slightly understaffed and management not clearly defining the roles of various staff members. For example, it was never clear who to talk to about checking in/out or dining arrangements. With strong management and perhaps just one or two more staff members, this hotel could be a five-star experience.

A tranquil resort in the heart of Iceland, uniquely blending the charm of a Greenlandic town with beauty of the Kenyan wilderness. Pros: -Rooms: Clean, scandi minimalistic, spacious, with view of area. Baby-friendly & equipped with bathrobes. -Breakfast: pastries, juices, milk /alternatives, fruit salad, falafel, cold meat, cheese, vegetables, oats, beans, sausages, bacon, egg, yogurts, and cereals. -Afternoon Treats: Complimentary coffee/tea & pastries from breakfast -Staff: Allergy-aware chefs and helpful staff, especially Dayyan -Amenities: High chair, strong shower pressure, hot baths, and tunnel connecting buildings and baths -Lounge Views: Stunning views on clear days -Fair Service: Staff responsive to issues -Extras: Complimentary tour and promising lunch menu (we didn’t have experience either) Cons: -Accessibility: No elevator to lower ground rooms in next door building. -Room Features: No cot, subtle room numbers (someone walked into our room), lack of luxury touches, limited amenities (no luggage space, hanger area, chair, coffee table, TV, fridge; tiny bin; few hooks). -Quality Issues: Loose bathroom light switch, streaky windows. -Patio: No furniture, obstructed view by boulder wall. -Dinner Buffet: Limited selection, very poor value for price. -Customer Service: Rigid early check-in policy despite having a baby. Despite these issues, the visit felt like a retreat & a unique experience, though the high price could be better justified with additional touches.

The location is superb, the hotpot is incredible. The rooms are nice, but missing hooks for your clothes, etc. and drawers for your stuff. Breakfast is rather slim, if you like soft cheese with your vegetables or hard-boiled eggs. If you like meat for breakfast, it’s fine. But the thing that annoyed us most was that the head of reception is impatient, not very helpful and rather unfriendly. She gave off the feeling that they’re doing you a favor by letting you stay there. For a place that charges this much, I would expect more sympathetic attention, a more elaborate breakfast, and rooms that are better equipped for a stay that involves lots of hiking.
