Reservation and communication seemed good. But then came checkin day and all h*ll broke loose! Arrived at 630pm to find door standing open, refrigerator in the middle of the living room, entire apt under construction and nowhere near completion! No call, text, warning of any kind had been given. This could not have been a surprise to the owner! I called and a woman answered and said she could answer for the owners. She said they "hadnt realized" the remodel wasnt finished and owner would call me back. He finally did and offered a stay for only the first 2 nights of 3 at "another unit." Then offered refund and he would "call VRBO for us to find something else." Promised a return call. He never did call - sent msg of refund and VRBO'S phone #. By now its 8pm and we're exhausted! VRBO could not help and only asked for a receipt for proof we paid. He said he would call back once he received it by email. I sent it and then never heard back from them either! Frustrated, we gave up and went to a hotel. So far I've received a refund of the base rental amt but not the VRBO fee or the required deposit fee! I will continue to fight for those as well and will update if all is made right. We just spent 3 nights in a cramped hotel room with 4 large adults and no amenities or room to spread out. We are just disgusted that we weren't given advance warning so we could try to find something else! Very, very unacceptable!
