I booked this property last minute so my wife would have a place to stay while visiting her mother in the hospital in Honolulu after a devastating cancer diagnosis. The listing photos looked good, the ratings were solid, and the price seemed reasonable. Unfortunately, the experience was awful from start to finish.Immediately after booking, we were informed that the pool was closed, something that absolutely should have been disclosed before payment. Strike one. After an emotionally exhausting day at the hospital, my wife arrived to find hallways and a room that were filthy and poorly maintained. There appeared to be a large stained section of carpet that had been crudely patched over, duct tape holding things together, and grimy light switches and outlet covers that looked like they had not been cleaned in years. Strike two.The biggest issue was safety. Entry to the unit was through a lockbox system, but inside the room it appeared the door had previously been forced open with a screwdriver or pry bar. A metal plate had been installed to cover the damage, and the secondary interior security lock was broken. Anyone with access to the lockbox code could potentially enter the unit, and my wife felt extremely unsafe staying there alone.Do not be fooled by the ratings and photos. This property is not being honestly represented. VRBO did refund the service fee and attempted to intervene, but the property management company refused to make things right, leaving us to dispute
