It's an okay spot. Location is great. The apartment itself is okay. You don't really come to Hawaii for the room. However, I think calling this a penthouse is a bit misleading. It's the top floor of an apartment building but there are like 5 apartments on the top floor. You certainly are not alone up there which is how I envision a penthouse. I was a bit disappointed in the size, it's smaller than the pictures make you believe. And the condition of some areas were a bit off, ceiling was cracked and broken as an example. The master bath has a really low ceiling so steam tends to collect and fall on you while showering and the window blinds in the master bath can only be controlled from the outside. A bit awkward of a design and if you are staying with people who like to joke they can just open the blinds wide open while showering. The master room also doesn't lock from the inside it locks from the outside so technically someone could lock you in the room, bit strange. The master bathroom also has a giant step down right in front of a glass mirror. Spare room with the Murphy bed (really just the living room) isn't really super usable at night it's extremely bright and there isn't a curtain just blinds. The parking down stairs in the basement is really difficult if you have a truck rental I think parking will be impossible for you. There weren't any washcloths on site so bring your own. It's positioned between two hostels so it can be a bit dicey downstairs on the street level.
