Perfect amount of space, wonderfully appointed in the kitchen for a Thanksgiving meal, and fantasic location. Kevin was welcoming and super accessible. Everything in the place was exactly as described and in fact better than we anticipated. We would absolutely stay again!

I am 66 years old and this was my most enjoyable stay at a beach EVER. From the responsiveness and thoughtfulness of the host (he deserves 6 stars!) to the location (pretty much a private beach) with the ocean right at our doorstep, practically. Ocean views from 3 bedrooms close enough to hear crashing waves! Not only were linens provided, but the kitchen and baths were generously stocked with everything you need except the food you would cook in the fab kitchen!! Our chef was enthralled! Even the assortment of beach chairs and umbrellas provided were high quality. The cherry on top was the elevator for my friends who have walking challenges. There are lots of steps so it made their visit (and bringing in luggage) so enjoyable. Can’t wait to book this place again! And the dogs loved it too!

First time we stayed on the south side of the island. The house was in a great location. Beach access was right across the street, and the boat launch for the kayaks, that came with the house, was a short walk back a side road. This year was memorable because we were able to rescue 2 baby sea turtles on the beach in front of the house! Great location, great rooms, great owner...great experience!

This location of this vacation house was amazing! The views of the ocean were magical. A very well equipped home and had absolutely everything we needed to make our vacation perfect. Kevin, the owner, sent us all info needed for a seamless check in and then contacted us to make sure all was good. We would definitely love to stay here again and recommend it 100%.

We loved waking up to the ocean sunrise, the sound of ocean waves, and watching the moonlight shimmer over the ocean, all from our front deck! The house was great, host Kevin also great.

The house was perfect for our combined family vacation! It was clean, comfortable, and well-stocked. There was plenty of space for everyone, and the views were beautiful—we loved spending time together both inside and out.The beach was a quick and easy walk away. It was never overcrowded, which made it even more relaxing and enjoyable for our group.The owner was a great communicator and made the whole process smooth from start to finish. They even left us a dozen donuts from a local bakery, which was such a thoughtful and fun surprise!We had a wonderful time and would absolutely stay here again. If I could give it 20 stars, I would!

Everything about our stay was fantastic. Great communications with the host. House is exactly as described on the website and in the photos. Loved being able to see water in every direction from every floor. Beach access is super convenient as as the walk down to the bay. Plenty of room for three couples and kids.

This was a great house in the perfect location! It is close to town, but far enough away that the beach is not crowded, and also in a narrow window where there is no beachfront house blocking your view. Nice big gathering area for the whole family to eat meals and play games. Sunrises from the front deck and sunsets from the back deck. And Kevin is a very attentive and friendly host.

Best vacation rental ever.

This property was amazing, clean, well stocked with whatever you would need and well furnished.Nice short walk to the beach which was never too crowded. Anything you would need for the beach was provided and at the property. Plenty of space for a large group and the kids loved the bunk beds. I would also like to say that of all the vrbo and Airbnb houses I have stayed at, Kevin was the best host I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with, great at communication and always responded in a timely manner, he was always very pleasant and accommodating. In the future if we ever plan on heading back to North Carolina I will very easily consider this property again.

Amazing Trip!

This property is beautiful! It is very clean & spacious. The views are breathtaking and the beach is right across the street. The property owner went above & beyond to make sure our stay was perfect. Anything we needed was addressed immediately and he was so kind. We can’t wait to book again next year!

Wonderful long weekend getaway!!

This is our 5th year staying at the North Carolina beaches and this was by far the best place yet. It is dog friendly, all sheets and towels are extremely fresh and clean, beds are comfortable, matching glassware, plates, pots, pans etc for anything you want to cook. Easy access to the beach and the views are right on the beach and the sound. There are enough beach chairs and 2 sturdy kahaks to enjoy in the sound. We are definetely looking at staying at this place again next year!!

Large Family Stay

Kevin was wonderful to rent from. The beach house was extremely clean and renovated. The beach views were unobstructed. Beach access is right across the road, and close enough for multiple breaks with small children. Would stay here again!

The Seldom Thing

The cottage was perfect for a family gathering! Spacious, well-equipped. We enjoyed the porches as well as the grill area. The views were beautiful of the ocean, and the sound view from top bedroom was spectacular 😊

Fantastic beach house!

Owner was great to work with, communication was easy, and he was very responsive. House had everything we needed for a fantastic stay, including lots of chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, beach toys. As others have said, it is right across the street from a beautiful beach, and the kitchen is well stocked with everything you need for a terrific week. Thank you, Kevin! We hope to be back.

Awesome Vacation Rental

The house was amazing with great views and easy beach access. The elevator made loading and unloading a breeze! Rooms were spacious, house was well stocked with everything you need. The road is a bit busy at times but it did not impact our vacation. The host is very responsive and awesome to work with. Would recommend this house without a doubt and we will be returning next year!

Wonderful Summer Family Vacation

We had a wonderful stay at the home with our family. The views of the beach and the sound are as advertised. We had an opportunity to take the kayaks out one morning, and the launch was VERY close by. The owner was responsive and helped us with any questions we had. This is definitely bookmarked for 2025!

Amazing stay.

Completely clean, gorgeous, and comfy home. Location was amazing with views of ocean from three levels of balconies. Watched the sun rise most mornings. Just as great is the proximity (short walk) to the sound. Sweet little dock. Watched sunsets most nights from rear balconies. A short drive (3 miles or so) into town for great food without even crossing the bridge. For us the best part of this house was all of the amenities. The owner went above and beyond to make this stay personalized, comfortable, and simple. Communication incredibly easy. Beach days were made simple with chairs, umbrellas, and toys provided. We had a blast exploring the sound with the kayaks and gear provided. We used the outdoor shower daily and my large family enjoyed meals all together both inside and out. Cannot say enough good things about The Seldom Thing and hope to return soon.
