Apple Lodge is the place to be in Highlands, NC if you want stylish comfort. All on one level, there's about 4 steps to enter, they you're all on one easy level. The large living area has a large flat screen TV, dining area that can seat up to six, and a fully equipped kitchen. Great home for entertaining even if the only attendees are you and a friend!
Configured in a split floor plan, the Mst. suite has a king bed, entrance to the covered screened porch and a private bathroom. This wing also offers an entrance to the garage and the laundry/utility room. The guest wing has a large bedroom with two twins and a private bath. There's a bonus room with a flat screen and queen bed. The third bathroom is a full bath, and serves very nicely as a powder room without disturbing the sleeping rooms. (There are three rooms that can be used as sleeping areas.)
There are wood floors throughout most of the home, an upscale kitchen with tile, nice appliances, beautiful cabinetry, and convenient to the serving areas and dining room. Spacious great room with dining-(opens onto screened porch), gas log fireplace, sleep sofa, comfortable seating , Want to eat outside? The covered porch with dining and gas grill is ready.
Are you a hiker, or enjoy getting out in nature? This home is next to the new and improved Highlands Greenway Trail which connects to other trails in and around town.
NO Smoking inside Pets may be permitted with a $150.00 non-refundable pet fee.

When you book your reservation through VRBO/Homeaway, the Property Manager handling this property will be notified by VRBO/Homeaway that a reservation has been made. You will be asked to enter your credit card information, but you will not be charged for your reservation at this time. You WILL be charged a nominal service fee by VRBO/Homeaway. The fee is between you and VRBO/Homeaway; the property manager has nothing to do with the fee. After the property manager has been notified of your reservation, you can rest assured this property is being held for you. You are booked. The property manager will email you a lease. The lease will need to be reviewed, signed and returned to the property manager. If you haven’t received a lease within 72 hours it could be because the property manager/rental office is closed. (Operating hours are Mon-Fri 10-4) OR you may need to check your SPAM folder. Your lease will have options- usually the price you pay will be less than what is shown because all the options are listed. The property manager/rental office for this property is a small-town business and we’ve been renting properties for over 30 years. We use VRBO/Homeaway for rental leads/reservations. A portion of your rental proceeds goes to VRBO/Homeaway for their service. Cozy mountain house
Big open space in living room, nice sized master suite and bathroom, had everything we needed. Nice open kitchen/bar area with wine fridge. Twisty gravel road to get up to house, might be an issue in winter

Great location to town
If you like to cook this house has everything you need. Grill worked great! The location is great to get to town. Only thing we would have added is a real wood burning fireplace. But the gas one heated the house!

Disappointing
We had a very similar experience as the previous reviewer. The house itself is nice, however it’s very dated in terms of furnishings. This is first property I’ve stayed in several years that did not have smart TV’s. It felt very cluttered as there were personal belongings in almost every drawer and closet. The bed linens and towels need to be updated as some had holes/stains. Overall an underwhelming experience in a high end location.

Thoughts on Apple Lodge

Apple Lodge could be a lot better. Our introduction was a mile+ ride on a dusty road under construction resulting in my clean SUV looking like I had been 4 wheeling in the desert. The home was "lit" with very inadequate florescent bulbs, and way too many light switches, with several burned out bulbs, dated furniture and dinnerware. The primary bed had flannel sheets in the middle of summer. The cabinets in a brand new, beautiful kitchen were stuffed with lots of stuff, very disorganized. It took me almost a half hour to find coffee filters. The rear screened porch was coated with so much dust that it was virtually useless. On the plus side, the new addition was pretty, with a nice master bedroom and bath,laundry room, and large closets. The living area was also nicely finished but with very dated furniture. I felt that in a VERY upscale community, This home could be a showcase with just a few tweaks and maintenance. Not disclosing the road conditions and dust everywhere was a major inconvenience that detracted from our experience.

Apple Lodge is a prettily sited rustic house in a mountain setting. Ours was a three plus week rental. It's well stocked with basic amenities and the master bedroom addition is comfortable, roomy, well laid out with a large walk-in closet, bath with a good shower and big laundry room. The rest of the house is not as accommodating. The living/dining area is dark with uncomfortable, old furniture and poor lighting. The kitchen's adequate. The screened in porch is a plus with good dining furniture. The drive in garage is spacious. The house needs several large skylights to lighten up the dark areas. That with a furniture upgrade would make it top notch.

The location of house was beautiful. Gravel road heading up Big Bear Pen Mountain. Lovely walks up there. Close to town. Everything in house was well stocked. I would just say that mattress of king size bed needs replacing. And bedding in twin bed room needs freshening up.

As a family of four, we had a wonderful, long weekend at Apple Lodge. The home is a lot larger than the photos led on. Very generously sized rooms. Kitchen well appointed. Very private location. Not a bad trip into town, but there is a steep gravel road to traverse. The only room for improvement is bringing the furnishings and furniture more up-to-date, and add at least a sleeper sofa or Murphy bed in the second guest room.

This lovely ranch home has the perfect location. Quiet and very much in the top of the mountains, yet only five minutes away from downtown restaurants and shops. The home was very clean! However, the sheets on the twin beds smelled stale and the comforters were extremely dated. I washed the sheets and blankets and had a great night sleep. Neither of the fireplaces worked for us. There was a reading room that we all felt would have been better suited as a bedroom instead of utilizing a sleeper sofa. None of these things would hinder us from renting this home again. We could not imagine having a better location for the price of the home. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!!!!

Large Rooms Beautiful Accomodation

Close to main town. Large 2 bedrooms, 3 beds all on one floor. We did not use den with 2 chairs & tv. Large living space. Large screened porch we used once. Preferred view out front door. Partial view of mountains and sunset by standing in the driveway. Nice garage with remote but we did not use. Beautiful trails into town 20-30 minutes (but would not walk them at night). House among the trees is without natural light so we always slept later than expected. Steep narrow dirt road with two 180 switchbacks scared us at first but after one day we drove them like the locals. Jeannie was helpful and allowed us to park at the office during 7/4 celebrations. However needed a crib and the one given us could not be tolerated by the adults let alone the infant (mold?) Children used the front side yard to play. Neighbor allowed us to use her fire pit to roast marshmellows. I would recommend for friends or families who can bring their own packnplay.
