Highland lakes Cottage

We stayed in the house for a week, we liked it a lot, and the backyard for my dog was completely closed with fences. there are several beaches, lakes around, we kayaked, there are supermarkets nearby, and we even went to Kalahary an hour and a half from the house, thanks Mike, we will rent again soon

Mike the host was wonderful & very accommodating from the start! He even asked what time we would arrive so he could turn on the heat ahead of time, which made such a difference! The home was very cozy & had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. I was also very happy that I was able to bring my service dog without any issues. He kindly allowed us a late checkout with a fee, but it was absolutely worth it!!! We truly didn’t want to leave, it was a wonderful stay! Would totally come back !

The WORST VRBO we have stayed in. We knew it was going to be old from the photos. The reason we chose it was the Super Mario Bros arcade game advertised as traditional coin op arcade. Any unit I have stayed in with a game room disables the coin function. This place expected us to pay and when I brought it to owners attention he was completely dismissive and then showed me he changed the listing so he can continue to nickel and dime kids. The place STUNK. There were ant and roach traps everywhere. They gave off an odor that he tried to cover with gel air fresheners at every turn. We had the windows open the entire time and it was 30 degrees. One bedroom was not possible to sleep in the odor was so strong. We closed the door and didn't use it. We had no control over the thermostat. If we wanted to adjust we needed to text him any hour of the day or night. The laundry was coin operated so if you wanted fresh towels during your stay, you needed to pay for them. Finally, the gaming consoles he advertises are literally bolted to the shelf. The shelf is bolted to the unit and the unit is bolted to the floor. When we arrived the playstation was unplugged from back of console and we couldn't move it to plug it back it. His response was "I hope you get it to work." The place was so dark and smelly it was disgusting. There are label maker notes on everything from the furniture to the floors so the place feels more like a prison than a getaway you are paying for.

We had a great time here. The beds were comfortable, the lakes were perfect, and everyone was so nice. I definetly recommend Beach one which is within walking distance. There were 2 playgrounds and a concession stand there as well. We were a short drive from Lego land and it was just an hour to Newark from where we took the train to NYC. Would love to stay here again.

brought my son and his friend to the area for a mtb race... needed to change my existing reservation because of an improper listing and found Mike's place on a very short notice. he was very accommodating and got us set up with his place very quickly. would book his house again.

Good weekend getaway with the dogs

For the dogs: our dogs enjoyed the big fenced-in backyard. There's also a HUGE fenced-in dog run a few minutes drive away. For the humans: My wife and I enjoyed the gaming options (Xbox, Playstation, and an arcade machine). There's a nice little town a few minutes drive away, with a supermarket, CVS, and decent coffee and food options.

Great Highland Lakes Cottage! Clean & well stocked kitchen. Be careful going up or down Breakneck Rd. Thus time of year every view is beautiful! We did lots of small road trips taking in the sites and autumnal views!!

Highland Lakes

The beds, bathroom and kitchen were clean. We enjoyed the gaming systems a great deal. We also enjoyed to outdoor space with firepit and hammock. My kids enjoyed the outdoor toys and ability to fill up and small kids pool to play. Beach 1 was very close to the house but walking there would have been a challenge with 2 young kids on a somewhat busy road. Overall, we had a good time. The owner was quick in responding to my questions and concerns and made adjustments with our needs which was appreciated. I was not thrilled having to pay to use the washer and dryer and the home does need some updating.

K My family of 5 and 2 dogs were in the area for the wedding and this property was perfect for all our needs. Michael the host checked in with us upon arrival and ensured that we knew he was there if we needed him. In addition, the property was full of detailed instructions of how to navigate the household and how to stay safe. My children loved the coin operated arcade and by using quarters it limited their time (so they can go outside and enjoy the fresh mountain air!). Everything was just as Michael had outlined on VRBO and his emails. The mattresses were nice and comfortable, we had access to on site coin operated laundry facilities just for us in case we needed it, the air conditioning operated well, and the TV was big and provided us access to watch the Olympics and pretty much any thing else we wanted (something I was not looking for but really helped at night). We did not get a chance to explore the area as much as we wanted to (but don’t worry, we will be back), but we were able to walk the dogs around on a road behind the house that gave us beautiful views of the lake, we did notice that we had easy access to delicious Jersey pizza, and if we wanted, could go to the water park or legoland. Finally, having dogs, it was nice to have a fenced in yard and space to place our crates. Our dogs loved the new smells and were exhausted when we came back home. We are definitely going to stay here again and would definitely recommend this property for any one with a family of

Perfect weekend

My family was down for the Spartan race weekend. The property is in a perfect location for proximity to the mountain, as well as Beaches and playgrounds for the kids. It comfortably fit four adults and two kids, and the fenced yard was great for the dog. Michael is a thoughtful and responsive owner, and we are looking forward to staying again next time we are down.

Overall Great Stay, but some words of caution.

My stay here for an extended weekend was certainly nice. The cottage while on the smaller end is very nice from a design standpoint and the fenced in backyard is really amazing especially since Michael is extremely welcoming to dogs which we greatly appreciated. My experience with Michael was great and he made sure check in was easy and checked in on us after the first day at the cottage, really nice! I have to be 100% honest with my review despite having such a good experience with Michael, I have to say the listing is not totally accurate as the master bedroom does not have a memory foam mattress. My wife and I constantly fell into the middle of the bed, making sleeping difficult for us who are used to a firmer mattress. I have to also say that it’s very shocking to see a coin operated washer/dryer in the unit, with a cash machine, and a coin operated arcade game, all were a first for me in the many years I’ve been using rentals like this. And I mean good business, and definitely capitalism at its finest it’s just off putting and takes away from the charm you want when renting a VRBO. The only other issue happened on the second night there when the fire detector went off at 3am twice. It was also extremely hot, as the main thermostat was under a hotel style lock box, so while AC units are there, it battled with the heat, which I would assume costs more money then giving ppl access to the temp control but we made it work. Overall 4/5

Highland Cottage stay

Easy to find and navigate from. We were there for my sister in law’s memorial service . Weather did not permit us to use or discover all the things to do there. Hopefully the next trip we will. Everything you could think of needing was provided and labeled. Will definitely stay again. Very affordable. Thank you again for a comfortable stay.

Nice Lake Cottage

Clean. Nice yard. Close to Beach #1, small lake for swimming with lifeguards...very nice. Loved the coffee station and the vintage touches. Comfortable beds. Loved bringing my dogs. Patio and floors could use a little upgrade. Wonderful Host!!! Had a very enjoyable time. Thank you Mike
