"Staff were exemplary and everything the room was spotless and bed very comfy. one criticism no complimentary water in the fridge and the furniture housing the fridge in need of repair ( doors wouldn’t close after opening). Meal in Fratello’s very good and staff very attentive."

"The room was excellent, bed was so comfortable that we slept in on our 1st night, leaving only 1 and a half hours to get ready for a wedding we were going to. The bathroom was lovely, a large shower with rainfall head. Very deep bath that we used on 2nd day. A great menu and restaurants to choose from. "Room was lovely everything well thought of , 2nd visit to Newton hall but 1st visit to the garden rooms , only downfall was central heating box in hallway so kept having to go out to turn it up toom didn’t get that warm but I guess it was -2 , and also kettle had to be put on floor to be plugged in to use it which wasn’t the best "

"We had a fantastic stay at this quirky and beautiful hotel. Even though we had booked the petite double room it didn't disappoint. As hotel rooms go it wasn't small. Beautifully decorated with beautiful ornate furniture and very comfy bed. Tea , coffee and water replenished every day. The breakfast and food in the restaurant was excellent. Staff were excellent, lovely and friendly. We would definitely go back. "

"This tiny Inn is definitely worth a visit! The new owners were very friendly and welcoming and the room was comfortable and very clean. The history of the building meant that the bar is tiny, but very welcoming - we spent a great evening drinking and chatting with locals. No food available on the first night, but the owners were happy to recommend and book somewhere for us to eat. Their kitchen was open the second night and the quality was excellent. "Fantastic comfortable hotel - Lovely, tastefully decorated rooms which were warm, cozy and spacious . The staff were fantastic and friendly and extremely informative and helpful . We enjoyed our meals in the bistro including breakfast in 3 mornings and an evening meal - the food was delicious and every attention to detail was given. We were very impressed with all aspects of our stay and will definitely book again when back in Northumbria!"

"A really lovely hotel. Friendly and helpful staff, very well maintained and spotless hotel, our room was spacious with a fantastic terrace overlooking the castle, large well appointed bathroom. Excellent food in the restaurant. My wife is coeliac and they knew exactly how to cater for her dietary requirements, nothing was too much trouble. And the location is perfect, across the road from the castle and short walk to the local shops, bars and restaurants. Will definitely stay here again "
