Positives: The view of the lake is great and there is a nice fire pit area and a gazebo with an inflatable hot tub which was not working but was replaced a few days after our arrival. The property manager, Dee was attentive and helpful. She came to the camp several times to help us out. Negatives: Rustic or not this place needs many repairs and equipment replacement. For example, one of the lower deck stair cleats broke and a friend of ours fell through a step and injured his leg. Three decorative post caps were broken exposing rusty screws. There was a lamp post with a light hanging by a wire. Some deck boards were spongy. The railing balusters were decorative but did not meet child safety standards and one was broken creating a fall through hazard. The dock was sunken significantly on the front left side. There were four 3" exposed screw bolts on the front side of the dock where you jump off to go swimming. The ladder was missing the first rung. A broken slat on one of the Adirondack chairs. The rowboat was unusable . The wooden seats were detached on one or both sides with the brackets hanging loose, the oars broken. Only one lake kayak and 3 river kayaks which were very small and not suited for lake kayaking. There was a paddle boat which needed repair. We repaired that ourselves during our stay. The was no paddle board. Numerous safety issues need to be remedied.

We loved our stay on Trout Lake! Check in was easy and as described. The kitchen was well-stocked and nicely set up for meal prep for our group of 7. We enjoyed the bi-level deck with a large table and chairs for 6 on both levels. The inside common area was plenty spacious for the one rainy day we needed to be indoors. The outdoor space with the fire pit was perfectly situated on the property to maximize star-gazing. Being able to use the pontoon boat was a wonderful surprise. We used it to explore the main lake and found a sandy beach area which was a great place to swim. We would definitely stay here again.

Relaxing lakeside cabin

We had a wonderful time enjoying the beautiful lake, fishing, swimming, kayaking and canoeing! Loved the multi level decks and views of the lake! We also had a chance to explore the area and took some great hikes (Hart Nature Preserve and Mt. Arab) and even took a day trip over to see Singer Castle! Definitely one of our family’s favorite vacations!

Lakeside camp

The cottage was very cozy and had everything we needed. We were there for our daughter’s graduation from SLU, as we live several hours away in Massachusetts. Overall, it was perfect for our needs. Unfortunately, it rained and was very cold while we were there, so I can’t comment on any of the water activities. The view from the deck is lovely! We saw a small beaver and a great blue heron.

Great Escape!

We had a fantastic stay. Property is super clean and provided so much to do. Even on the rainy days we enjoyed playing cards. The lake is beautiful and super clean. We made use of the kayaks and canoe. I highly recommend for families. We will be back!

Enjoyable Grad Stay

We stayed at this property for my husband's graduation from SUNY Canton. Canton is an easy 20-30 minute ride. The house is extremely clean and well-kept. The outside needed a little cleaning up, but we figured since it's May, there probably hasn't been a spring clean-up done. We were still able to sit outside and barbeque, and it did not have any effect on our good time. The lake is absolutely beautiful, and even though neighbors are close, you feel like you are somewhere private. We were able to have a nice fire, there was more than enough firewood to keep the fire going. The neighbors do have dogs that bark pretty frequently, but that didn't bother us much. We would visit this property again in a heartbeat.

My coworker and I were traveling for work and the Mountain Escape was perfect accommodations for us. I would definitely come back to vacation here so I could enjoy all of the amenities and activities around.

Great Thanksgiving weekend getaway

We had a great stay at this lovely house right on the lake. It snowed everyday which made it feel more like the holidays. We wanted to find a place off the beaten path and enjoy the Adirondacks for a few days. The homeowner was very helpful assisting us with locations to visit during our stay. Thank you

Mini vacation

Stayed here for 3 nights. Charming place with good beds and comfortable seating. Nice fire pit with plenty of dry wood. Awesome view of Trout Lake.

Beautiful location but not the best experience

We enjoyed our stay but had issues that impacted our experience. While some were unforeseeable, others could have been addressed ahead. The owners were responsive, but we wished we didn’t have to contact them so often: Items were missing, such as basic dinnerware (no bowls, only plates), no umbrella for the deck (only the stand), and no paddleboard. Each time we had to ask the owners. We understand the cabin is in the woods and that it’s treated for pest but it should have been checked. We found a decomposing mouse in a bathroom cabinet. We suspected another one in the living room due to the smell and eventually found it under a sofa. Two of us were attacked by wasps on the deck where nests were found in the walls around the sliding door. The owners sent someone to spray but it seemed like a recurring issue. The outdoor area needs maintenance: a broken deck gate lock, a tilting boat ramp, fallen bricks on small platforms, a broken lamppost... Also, the bunkhouse door couldn't be locked from the outside (missing key), and the oven was broken when we tried to use it—the owners later offered to replace it but we were about to leave. The bunkhouse flooded during an unusual storm, drenching suitcases and making the house unusable for our last 2 days. Finally, the size of the cabin was fine for us but it’s listed for 12 when it’s not equipped for that many: kitchen is small with little storage and indoor table sits 5. Apart from that the cabin was ok and, the lake is beautiful.

Beautiful area so many local hiking trails

Owner is quick to respond which was great, the lake was absolute glass with a beautiful view, it was quiet and so peaceful. A few things left a little to be desired. There was a fly issue inside the house that should be addressed. A little bit of regular maintenance would change the improve the property, there was only one working light outside the house which was a bummer but we just used flashlights,a deep clean would be helpful but the beds sinks and toilet were clean. The owner was informed and quick to respond and thankful for feed back and plan to address issues. Over all we loved the area the lake is everything we hoped for, the hot tub was a great way to unwind after amazing local hikes. They are dog friendly and easy to work with.

Trout Lake House

2nd time here and never a disappointment had a great time fishing lake and swimming. Clean lake and found a quaint beach with access to State Park. House was clean, neat, and had all amenities noted in listing… no surprises which is very nice! Bedrooms in main house are nice size and beds are comfortable.

2023 family vacation

Trout lake is a gem i found a couple years ago the lake is quiet and absolutely beautiful. This year i wanted my whole family to go with all the kids and this lake house was perfect we enjoyed every aspect of the grounds we enjoyed smores and the hot tub in the upper part of the property. We had morning coffee on the beautiful deck looking out at the water. The cottage was nice and pleanty of room for a large family or two. We enjoyed going out on the boat taking the kids to the sandy beach area to swim. We made lots of awesome memories here. Thanks you David for letting us use your cottage for the week.

Wonderful Family Vacation!

Our family of five just spent 5 nights at this beautiful property! The views were amazing from the decks and house windows. The home was clean and had everything we needed. The owner was very responsive to any questions we had during our stay. Some of the highlights of our trip were kayaking out to Rock Island to swim and jump off the rocks, hiking to see the various waterfalls throughout the area, and spending time around the firepit! We highly recommend!

Wonderful Weekend getaway

We visited over the holiday weekend. The house and bunkhouse had enough space for our group of 6 children and 5 adults. We loved the common spaces both inside and outside. The living room had many comfortable couches and space. We loved the indoor table for quick snacks, but really used the 2 decks and tables outside for meals. The bathroom was spacious and clean. The galley kitchen can be a bit tight if you have more than 1 person helping to cook/prepare meals, but we made it work. We had no complaints about the house and space. The dock and grass near the lake were easy to use and had many amenities for us to add to the fun. We did not use the hot tub, but only because everyone wanted to be near or in the lake!
