The hotel is in an excellent location right in the centre of Harrogate, close to Bettys, the Ivy and the Turkish Baths. . The downstairs was nicely decorated for Christmas. Unfortunately there is very limited parking outside, and the nearest car park was quite a walk, and required a detour right around the town to get to it from the hotel. The member of staff on reception was not particularly helpful in advising us on where to park.
We booked small double rooms, but they were really small and pretty basic and cheaply decorated, not really value for money for £165 a night.
The beds were comfy, but the bathrooms were very small and lacked basic touches like a hook on the door for a robe, or a shelf in the shower to put shower gel on. The hot water took a very long time to reach the shower. The bedrooms were quite cold and had to be heated by an electric heater that you had to turn on and off; there was no central heating.
Some staff were nice, others were quite unhelpful. We were charged an automatic service charge for a bottle of wine and glasses from the bar.
