The location is great. The view is stunning. There are a few things that could be better. The bathtub in main bath was clogged. There is no way that whoever cleans had to of known that the water would not drain. My husband fixed it. Who wants Maintenace on your expensive vacation. The carpet really needs to be cleaned. As do the bathrooms need some mold removal. There is also a issue with big roaches. I had one crawl across my foot going to the restroom in the middle of the night. Not pleasant. The little roach traps placed around would not accommodate them. We have stayed here a few times and have always enjoyed the location. It is very convenient for family. This trip I forgot to empty my ashtray that had pot butts. Miss Liz was really unhappy that I had smoked outside. It is legal and I have medical issues that I use it for. Otherwise, it was a very nice vaction.

Your own private beach with beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay. Kids played in the sand even in the cooler weather. Got to see dolphins playing while taking morning and evening walks. It was a perfect size house for our family.

Been coming to The Frisky Dolphin for over 4 years. This is where we relax and recharge. Neighborhood is great as are the neighbors. Liz, the manager, is there when needed and not when she isn’t. Perfect harmony

The frisky dolphin was the perfect getaway for my husband and I. It was a lovely place where we enjoyed peace and quiet and felt like we were 1,000,000 miles away from busy city life. We daily got to enjoy walks on the beach and the friendliness of the Buckroe Beach community.

property was as described. Furniture is very dated and not very comfortable (beds were very nice, though!). You are paying for the view and location.... but watch out for the sand burrs! Theye were EVERYWHERE (like stepping on sand legos!)

I was waiting to review until I Received my refund. But it have been two weeks! Would love to have a real conversation with the owners. Listening needs updated (NoHot tub), we cleaned when we arrived and we cleaned before we left. Very disappointed in Verbo, not checking up on their listings that they promote.

The GOOD: We absolutely LOVED the house and the location. Light filled, a spacious layout, multiple porches. Some reviews said it's dated, but it didn't feel that way to us. The home is located an arm's reach to a wide, clean, sandy beach. It's a 1 min walk. Gorgeous views from the porch. We visited during the off season and barely saw other people. The house had everything you could think of. A high chair. Toys. Games. Beach gear. A grill. The kitchen cooking gear is very dated, but I guess I was prepared so it is what it is. It's also 10-15min drive to many activities (aquarium, museums,etc). The NOT SO good: Weak AC. And host communication. First, the kitchen sink briefly clogged as soon as we had moved in. The host responded that she'll send somebody. She never did, and we found a plunger and dealt with it. More frustratingly, we had two days of no cable and no WiFi. Upon alerting the host she suggested WE call the cable company lol. I waited for her to do so. She ignored me. Next day called them myself. The cable company informed us it was a billing issue and it cannot be discussed with renters. I let the host know about this call. She ignored me. I texted her again later on. She again told me to call the cable company (???). I told her again that I had. That's when she finally dealt with it. Considering several of us were working remotely this wasn't great. So basically, if there's an issue you're on your own.

This is a great house! The deck is wonderful and you can see the water from it, there's an umbrella on the deck to shade you while you sit outside and watch the water, the carpets are soft, the beds were comfortable and the sheets were soft, towels AND linens were provided, and the refrigerator was so huge AND it made ice (I know it seems silly to mention this detail, but I am in love with a fridge that makes ice). We are thinking of making this our annual beach rental. There's just one drawback that has nothing to do with the wonderful house. The bay is epic and the water is very gentle, so it's perfect for kids, but there are jellyfish. Everyone got stung except me. We were semi prepared with baking soda and hydrocortisone cream, so the stings were no big deal, but we were hesitant to be in the water as much as we wanted. We are going to buy jellyfish resistant sunscreen next year and see how that goes!

We had a great stay! Such a beautiful place. You really do have your own private beach. The cottage is great. Loved the large windows looking out. The host, Liz, was wonderful. Definitely recommend!

The Private Beach access was the main reason we rented. The house wasn’t as clean as I prefer, but not terribly dirty. Plenty of amenities: beach chairs, umbrella, games, etc. I would probably bring my own glasses, coffee mugs, and tableware, as those items were few. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and getting familiar with Buckroe. Thanks a bunch!

The weather was cold first 2 days, then nice. Beach was nice. Restaurants were ok. The home was clean just old. The LR furniture was horrible as was the cookware. My partner said he was eating nothing prepared with those pans. We ate out. Neighbors I met on the left were nice. We did everything by the book. Most likely will not be back.

Great house to stay in with a private beach. Had everything we needed. We went down for a gymnastics competition and it was convenient for the venue. We didn't have good weather to take advantage of the beach but we would definitely stay again! Host was easy to reach and very responsive!

The frisky dolphin was perfect for a low key and relaxing trip for my husband and I to take as we prepare for our first child due August. We stayed the last weekend of April to beginning of May and the weather was awesome. The private beach access was so nice and the sunrises each morning from the deck or the beach were simply gorgeous. Our dog loved the house, the deck (blocked off with no stairs which was nice) and doing walks on the beach. The house was cozy and a great size. One recommendation would be to update the living room couches to something a little more comfy. The area was quaint and small town vibe which we loved. We did a day trip to Jamestown one day and there’s plenty to do around and close by. Liz was great to work with when we had a minor issue that was out of her control near the end of our trip. She values her customers that stay here and it was much appreciated. We already have talked about wanting to come back sometime after the baby is born. Thanks again for a great few days!

As prior Hampton roads residents, we visit often. This year we decided on something besides a typical hotel and landed at the Frisky Dolphin! While the weather didn’t cooperate, we had great week! It was so nice to hear the waves as we fell asleep. The private beach was amazing and so quiet. The house itself was the perfect size for us (4 adults and 3 kids). The two decks were huge and while we didn’t get to enjoy them much, I can imagine how great they are when the weather is nice! The house is older but was very clean and well stocked with starter cleaning supplies. There were plenty of towels as well. My kids loved the toys and books that were there for them. The only suggestions we had we’re updating some of the kitchen cookware. They were very dated/well loved and made cooking difficult at times. Also, the living room furniture, while fitting to the “look” of the house, wasn’t very comfortable. Some of the outdoor furniture needed updates as well. Liz was an amazing host to work with, super responsive and easy to get in touch with. A new tv had been installed prior to our arrival and was on two end tables as a makeshift tv stand, as it was too big for the old stand. Liz asked if we wanted to have it “fixed” while we were there, which was very nice of her. We declined as it wasn’t a big deal. My husband also left something behind and she has been more than helpful with trying to find it and return it to us! I could definitely see us starting here again!

My husband and I stayed with my 84 year old father-in-law and two kids, 9 and 11 years of age. The private beach was a super bonus and allowed for a nice walk to the public beach to enjoy the boardwalk. The sand path to the private beach was a clear of debris path with only a small dune to go over at the end. There were so many shells! The deck provided an excellent view of the sunrise and water, my father in law enjoyed the many options for seating and there was a small area where he could sit outside close to the house with minimum wind. The contract was very detailed, giving us clear direction of what was expected. The lights and receptacles required some investigation to determine what cut on what light (one bedroom had writing on the switches but it was blurred). Beds were comfy, extra blankets in small room had pet hair. There are two sets of stairs to access the main living area (which I had expected) but once in the house it was easily accessible for my elderly father in law. He had to only go downstairs to leave the house, the only thing downstairs was the washer/drawer and he did not have any desire to go to the loft that was accessed by the circular stairs. One of the bathrooms did have a bar for him to use to assist while taking a shower. My father in law said it was his favorite place we had taken him so far!

My wife, nephew, niece and I enjoyed our three night stay. The weather cooperated for the most part and we spent a little time on the beach using the private access. We didn't spend a lot of time at the house other than sleeping, as we were exploring Hampton-Norfolk-Virginia Beach for the first time. But it was safe, private and comfortable. There might have been a glitch in communicating with the property maintenance in between the last guest leaving and our arrival as there were a few dirty dishes out and their laundry still in the washing machine when we went to put our bedding in the morning we left. But those were super small inconveniences against all the positives. Liz was a good communicator through the Vrbo message system, which was much appreciated.
