Beautiful traditional Japanese Roykan. Located close to the Hakone Road in a beautiful wood area. It is a pity that maintenance, cleanliness and mainly the ability of the staff to speak English spoiled our stay there, making difficult the basic requests for food and service.

Bonito hotel estilo ryokan tradicional. Tuvimos un poco de temor por los malos reviews pero nosotros tuvimos una buena experiencia. El lugar es muy bonito y tranquilo. Está impecable. La experiencia del onsen también. El nuestro era pequeño en el patio de nuestra habitación y no estaba tan caliente, pero usamos el público y estaba muy bonito y mejor, solo estaría bien poderlo reservar por más de 30 min. También usamos una sala zen con sillones de masajes y está excelente. De la cena fue una muy buena experiencia tradicional, sin embargo para el desayuno me parece que para turistas occidentales hay que llegar con reservas y entender que puede ser algo muy diferente a lo esperado y acostumbrado. Sería bueno que el ryokan tuviera otra opción, como vegetariana.

This hotel is an experience. It's an isolated location on a mountain side, but the hotel decor is almost a museum and worthy of being a destination in itself. On top of that, the exterior private baths are absolutely amazing, we booked them multiple times per day. Every meal was exceptional. Thank you for the beautiful memories!

This is a great place for stay in Hakone, traditional Japanese onsen house, we ordered the room and board for two nights, and it's a great experience. Both the public and private onsens are great and we have tried both. The location is also quite convenient, could walk to the Kowakidani station, both bus and train. Their hotel service is also great, family style, from the moment you entered, there is no need to wear shoes, because the whole hotel is connected in a way that you could either by bare foot or their sandals.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars for staff and cleanliness. The property is spotless and the staff really went above and beyond. For an American traveler, I thought my stay was a great introduction to Japanese onsens/kaisekis.

Soooo happy we booked here! It is a beautiful, traditional ryokan with spacious rooms, excellent staff and service, great water pressure (I know that’s silly to note, but it’s worth mentioning), and beautiful private onsens (we didn’t try the public ones). I was nervous calling the ryokan from the train station to pick us up, but they immediately put an English-speaking staff member on the phone and didn’t make me feel dumb for not understanding and were, in fact, super welcoming and kind. That, in fact, was the theme of our stay here. The yukatas they provide to wear are comfortable and pretty, and the staff kindly explains traditions and how to use everything during the kaiseki meal (they were so patient to explain everything to us gaijin!) We were exceptionally thankful for them when we found ourselves very far away at Mishima Skywalk. We got turned around and missed the last bus headed back to Hakone on the freepass and we’re waiting at a bus stop that turned out to not be a stop at all. The skywalk shut down, all employees went home, it turned dark, and the taxi services wouldn’t speak to any non-Japanese speakers. Our ryokan was able to call and get us a taxi (where no taxis were running). Expensive mistake for sure, but without them we’d still be in Hakone on the side of the road! ALL employees were encountered were kind and helpful, even if they spoke little English (and us little Japanese). Wonderful experience here!

Such a lovely ryokan experience. Located up on a forested hill (they offer pick-up service from the train station) the views over the valley were beautiful. The Premium room was spacious and the staff so friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast served in-room was a culinary delight of creativity and taste. Definitely a highlight of our Japan trip. We were a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teen-agers).

Great property, very quiet, the staff was very nice and helpful. The food was great. They were very accommodating. We had an early train back to Tokyo and they served us breakfast outside their usual service times. Would definitely recommend. They will not allow your party to check-in early or wait on the property prior to the check in time. If you arrive to Hakone early, they will pick-up your luggage from Miyanoshita station on the Hakone Tozan line. They will provide drop off and pick up services from the Kiwokidani station once you have checked in. For planning purposes, it is about a one hour trip back to Odawara from the Kiwokidani station. Communication can be difficult at night, this is where Google translate was very helpful, so if you had questions or concerns about your booking, it is better to have it squared away in the morning.

Amazing stay! Hey offer pick up from the train station you just need to call them and they will take you back to the train station as well. The meals were delicious and staff were extremely friendly.

It was nice to stay at this place. The staffs were very nice and we felt welcome. Our meal server, Miho Yokohama was excellent, very friendly and helpful. The food was very delicious, small plates but we were very full. They have both public and private spa areas. Since the hotel is small, not many ppl so even public ones were like private. Onsen made us feel so relaxed after long walks for days.

月見台がある蓬莱部屋に宿泊いたしました。 その名の通り下弦の月が山に静かに沈み込んでいく様子が眺めることが出来ました、多分一生で一度しか経験ができない時間だったと思います。 お料理も工夫されていて美味しかったです。

I am overall pleased with this hotel but there are some things to note: -It is a FULL ON traditional Japanese experience in the sense the rooms truly are Ryokkan style and staff are all dressed in kimonos and the whole layout of the hotel is beautifully designed in old Japanese tradition. - The food is NOT a buffet, it is a set menu of VERY traditional Japenese cuisine, lots of pickled vegetables, lots of fish and lots of food a westerner who is not very adventurour may find hard to swallow. However if you are adventurous it truly is a beautiful experience to try all the dishes and if you enjoy the food you will not leave hungry as there are many dishes they serve for both Breakfast and Dinner in the half board they offer. - There is NO restaurant in the hotel so lunch must be eaten off the property. - They do not allow food from outside into the hotel so do not bring your own meals back. They also do not like you to bring your own alcohol to the hotel and if they discover you have then they will charge you for it. - If you have children, even if you book that you are with kids they dont register the children in the booking and they will charge you an extra 15 USD a night for the child to have their own futon when you check out. - the hot springs are all beautiful but the fascilities need updating. Paint pealing off the wall in places and wood rotting on the sideboards and some flooring. - overall a beautiful experience!

Friendly staff. Nice property. They fed us abundantly! Pillow and floor mattresses were not that comfy but we were there for the ryokan experience. Not sure if the hot springs water were clean or not coz shared by everyone and lady said they don’t swap them out.

This was the best hospitality experience I’ve ever had. The people, rooms, service, food, private onsen and everything else was top notch. It’s a shame I only stayed one night, wish I was there for more. The lady at the reception was extremely warm and welcoming to us. Will definitely recommend to everyone to go to hakone for 2 days and stay here!

첫 료칸여행이었는데 정말 좋았습니다. 위치: 하코네 마코토역에서 미야노시타역까지 간 후 연락하면 송영버스를 보내줍니다. 송영버스 타고 5-10분 거리에 숙소가 있어요. 편의점 및 편의시설은 멀리 있으니 들어가기 전에 미리 들리는 게 좋습니다. 방: 배정받은 방으로 가는 복도가 너무 운치있고, 방도 정말 넓고 깨끗했습니다. 2인 숙소로 예약했는데, 잠자는 거실과 코타츠가 놓여있는 옆방이 붙어있어서 쾌적하게 이용했습니다. 온천: 방에 온천이 딸린 룸으로 예약했는데, 실제로 방에 딸린 온천은 사용해보지도 못했습니다. 노천탕이나 여탕,남탕이 잘 되어있어서 그곳을 이용하기만 해도 좋았습니다. 노천탕은 체크인 후에 미리 예약해야했는데, 처음 겪는 노천탕이라 추위에 못 이겨 들어가보지 못한게 아쉽네요. 서비스: 마지막 가이세키가 7시에 있어서 다행히 저녁을 먹을 수 있었습니다. 룸에서 기다리면 직원분이 저녁상을 차려주는데 코스 형태여서 여러번 왔다갔다 하십니다. 친절하시고 재밌으신 분이 담당해주셔서 식사 시간이 즐거웠습니다. 저녁을 다 먹으면 이불자리를 펴주시는 직원분들이 들어오셔서 정리해주십니다. 코타츠에서 몸을 녹이며 이불자리 정리하시는 걸 봤는데 각 잡아서 깔끔하게 정리해주시는 모습이 인상깊었습니다.

상상/생각이상으로 너무 좋아서 만족도가 200% 였던 숙소였습니다. 가격적인 측면으로도 받은 서비스와 제공된 숙소에 비해서 저렴하다고 느껴졌습니다. 픽업 서비스도 유용하게 활용했습니다!

Highlight of our Japan trip
It was a beautiful experience to stay in this ‘old timey’ ryokan. Our standard room was simple but spacious and clean, and the staff provided excellent service. The food was delicious too. We tried out the three private baths and enjoyed them all. We liked the nostalgic vibe of the place and felt very relaxed after our stay. This ryokan is great value for money, especially in Hakone! It is a bit difficult/inconvenient to walk up to the ryokan, so try to give them a call when you arrive at the station so they can pick you up (they also offer drop off at the station at the end of your stay).
