Amazing property & host

We booked this villa for a week during our stay in Funchal. John and Vanessa were fantastic hosts and so easy to deal with. The property was incredible and located in a wonderful area of Funchal. Would highly recommend for anyone visiting this incredible island.

Relaxing holiday

We had a wonderful stay at this amazing villa. The host was friendly and helped with anything we needed. The pool was amazing and well worth paying for the heated option as we could swim into the evening. Very near to a great bakery and supermarket. Wonderful views over Madeira and we would love to visit again

Wonderful place in a great neighborhood!

I stayed here with two buddies, with the plan to do a bunch of hiking and have a cozy, spacious place to come back to every day, and this fit the bill perfectly. We loved the neighborhood, the view is incredible, the walk down to the city center is easy, and we felt right at home. Highly recommend staying here if you’re in Funchal!

Paradise under a roof

Inasmuch as Madeira is inarguably paradise under the sun, Villa Santa Maria Maior is paradise under a roof. From the hospitality of John & Vanessa (our flight was delayed and John stayed at the villa till 3am to greet us and give us a warm welcome) to the house itself - everything was absolutely perfect. Clean, modern, perfect layout and breathtaking views.

Fantastic Trip

This was our fourth time in Funchal and the property was one of the best we have stayed in. Comfortable and the views are simply stunning. The walk to and from the centre is not for the feint hearted, or unfit, but meant we felt less guilty about all the wonderful food and wine we consumed. Vanessa looked after as very well and she is a real asset. We hope to return!!

Grandioses Haus

Die Zimmer sind geräumig, gut gepflegt und sehr sauber. Die Aussicht über Funchal ist noch spektakulärer als auf den Bildern, und der Zapfhahn wurde ausgiebig genutzt. Übergabe der Wohnung war ebenfalls sehr gut, wir haben viele spannende Tips bekommen was wir alles in der Umgebung anschauen sollten. Vom Inhaber selbst gab es ebenfalls viele wertvolle Tips. Ein weiteres Fass Bier wurde schnellstmöglich organisiert. Als wir ein Problem mit dem Pool hatten, wurde dieses von ihm aus seinem Urlaub schnell gelöst. Dafür auch auf diesem Wege nochmals ein herzliches Dankeschön. tl;dr: Das Haus ist absolut zu empfehlen und hält alles was die Bilder versprechen.

Fabulous property in Funchal

We recently stayed at Santa Maria Maior in Funchal! This property has it all—great views of the city, an outdoor bar and pool area, big bedrooms and bathrooms, a washer and dryer—and a nice kitchen and large living area. We walked downtown many times-and enjoyed hanging out in the pool. The house even has a cozy outdoor library and reading nook! I highly recommend this property!

Fabulous house and location

We stayed for 19 days and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The views are stunning and the pool refreshing. The house has everything you need both indoors and out. The walk into town is down VERY steep roads, some with no pavements, which can be a bit unnerving, but we always took a taxi back (around 5 euros). John is very responsive and Maria did a good check in for us. We miss it already

Spectacular

A fabulous apartment situated in the attractive suburb of Rochinha overlooking the port and centre of Funchal. Spacious and well-appointed with full-length southwest facing windows on both floors; an attractive deck surrounding a heated infinity pool and plenty of space for six - if not more. Watch the cruise liners arrive from your bed and celebrate the setting of the evening sun over the distant hills. One double bedroom has its own en-suite; the other and the twin room share another bathroom. The ground floor has a kitchen diner, plus a vast lounge with dining area. Below is a huge garage. the pool is heated. Rua da Boa Vista is a (VERY steep) hill and a 15 minute walk down to the centre, the market and many, many cafés, bars and restaurants. Forget about walking back - taxis (Funchal probably has more taxis per square meter than anywhere else in the west) cost between €5 and €7, and everyone speaks English. There's also a (no. 32) bus every half-hour or so. The local shops - five minutes away - offer basic provisions but anything else will require a visit to the well-stocked supermarkets in the town centre. A taxi can get you to the airport in 20 minutes... not that you'll want to leave. This is a truly spectacular apartment...

Wow villa!!!

It was a great pleasure to stay in John's villa. It was beyond my expectations. Such a luxury! We have 7 person and we really enjoyed the stay there. Maria is very kind and helpful host, we received very warm welcome. This villa is interesting piece of architecture, interior design and decoration with the most breathtaking views. Everything is new and very clean. Great kitchen is fully equipped with high quality machines. The villa is located in a good place, 10 min walk to Funchal city center Av do Mar. The villa has a huge garage, so there is no need to worry about parking. WOW factors: Swimming Pool, Amazing Views, garage, space. Personally, I recommend villa to everyone who want to explore and relax in Madeira,Funchal.
