Idyllic retreat in the country
Started with excellent communication prior to arrival. John and Sarah were wonderful hosts. The setting/location is beautiful. This quaint cottage has been tastefully modernised and provided everything we needed for our long weekend stay. Thoroughly recommend this property and the hosts.

The cottage is in a beautiful rural location in the Hawke's Bay region. It's secluded, secure and very comfortable. The manager and owner, John, was very welcoming, friendly and helpful with tips about where to go and what to do. The surrounding area has stunning forests, lakes, beaches and walks of all levels of difficulty. Groceries and other supplies can be bought in the nearest town, Wairoa - about 15 km away. Appliances all worked well and there was plenty of hot water. A car is essential to explore the region. Overall, this was a wonderful place to stay in the New Zealand countryside that was relaxing and comfortable in a beautiful area with many great options for outdoor activities.

Great stay in Stable Cottage
Perfectly snug, warm cottage with great facilities. We loved our stay and will be back to take John up on his offer of a walk around the farm. Awesome river views and farmland all around. Peaceful. Everything we needed was on hand.

Beautiful beyond description
We feel like we went back in time, to somewhere in the 1931, the atmosphere of the place tells so much History, and we feel like we were part of that history. My little family traveled a lot, but this one will be unforgettable for a very long time! We can never had enough of waking up to that mountain view. So beautiful! 💯%❤️ from the little 🇹🇴family.

Rustic chic with a stunning view
We loved spending five nights at the cottage with our toddler, relaxing on the deck with its stunning view across the river to hills, and enjoying the modernised interior that retains historic artefacts and features. John was a great host, and a fount of local historical knowledge. The surrounding area has lots to offer, from walks at Lake Waikaremoana to beaches at Mahia. So peaceful and relaxing - definitely recommend!

Peaceful country vista
The Stables Cottage was a most delightful property to stay at. It was easy to find with great communication between the host. Aircon was going when we arove so it was toasty and warm inside which was enjoyable as it was a cold wintery day outside. We will definitely return here its a very lovely place indeed.

Absolute Gem
The cottage is absolutely beautiful, spotlessly clean and well appointed. Beds are comfortable, shower pressure is great. Set in secluded grounds and with a magnificent view of the river from the rear deck, it felt like your own slice of paradise. The owners are lovely people, very accommodating and helpful. The ambience of the cottage is perfect and many of the old trappings of the shed bought back a lot of childhood memories. Thoroughly recommend this wonderful property, and loved the book which John had written on the history of the surrounding area, a copy of which resides at the cottage.

Overlooking a beautiful river & picturesque farmland
We really enjoyed staying here. The place has lots of character and is all set up with everything we needed. We loved hanging out on the deck overlooking the river and farm land. Gorgeous private quiet location
Gorgeous private quiet location, wonderful view with the river at back of property. House is full of memorabilia which adds to the history of the house. Owners were great to deal with, I would definitely stay here again.

Special place
The property surpassed what we were hoping for. We were doing a 10 day road trip round East Cape and suspected the 3 days in Frasertown would be the highlight - and it was. The cottage is beautifully presented and has quality furniture, bedding and towels. Beautiful views - decks back and front so you can get the morning sun then the afternoon and evening overlooking the river. John was an excellent host, offering produce from his garden and orchard and even lent us his fishing gear. We definitely intend to return.

Labour Weekend break.
The property is everything as shown in the website, cosy, quiet, rustic, spacious, perfect for a long weekend stay. With the odd rabbit darting across the massive lawn to the birdsong in the trees, the sound of the river below, this is an ideal rural retreat. If you are a city dweller you'll sleep like a log. Our hosts couldn't have been more generous, fresh eggs, avocados, grapefruit on the bench, thanks. The property was very easy to find on the main road to Waikaremoana not far from Wairoa and an ideal place to explore the area. My wife and I really enjoyed staying here and highly recommend it, may come back for some trout fishing. Thanks to the Davey family.

Beautiful spot!
The cottage is well situated, 30kms from the spectacular Lake Waikaremoana, and an hour's drive from Mahia Peninsula and the Morere Hot Pools. It's so magical to wake up to the sound of the river below, and a secluded feeling. The cottage is very well equipped as it's fully self catering, clean, warm and very comfortable, with lovely furniture and fittings. It has a homely feeling and we had a very warm welcome from John and Sarah. Small touches like fresh eggs from the chooks nextdoor, milk, lemons and butter all made us feel at home. I thoroughly recommend it as a place for a relaxing short break, and a comfortable base for day trips. It was a bit difficult to find so the location and clear directions on Bookabach would be helpful (including the short cut route). Thanks John and Sarah!

Very welcoming and full of charm
Great host. Chickens became good friends and their eggs were delicious. BBQ and verandah lovely but make sure you have some mozzie repellant as the cottage overlooks the river. Great position for accessing Lake Waikaremoana.
