I have never left a poor review of a property in over 20 years of renting beach properties. I have not asked for a refund and did not accept reimbursement for items we had to purchase to prepare and serve pbasic meals. If this property has been renovated, it was very superficial. While I did not expect luxury, I did expect a comfortable, well maintained home. Our biggest concern was the mold. We saw it in several areas of the house, a concern that goes back years in the reviews. The kitchen is not well stocked. The temperature control indicators have been scrubbed off the control panel of the cooktop. The oven heats unevenly and only to 400 degrees on bake. After ruining a couple of batches of baked recipes, we gave up. I see that complaints about the lack of a refrigerator ice maker go back a few years. Complaints about the master shower drain being clogged go back a few years. Rooms where the overhead light did not work, electrical outlet that shot out sparks when plugging in a cord. The tension rod with shower curtain installed to “repair” a missing glass door fell on the head of one of our group. The room listed as double bed and a single is actually a single daybed with a single trundle. The person sleeping on the trundle complained of springs sticking in her back. The outdoor areas look as if maintenance has not touched them. The elevator works infrequently even trying all the suggested ways to keep it running. Just a few of our concerns.

Perfect ocean front location with spectacular views of the ocean from the front decks. Enjoyed beautiful sunsets from the rooftop. Jimmy, our host, was extremely helpful and attentive. One of our guests has mobility challenges. This property has an elevator and a primary suite on the main level with a walk in shower. Perfect for him. We enjoyed our stay.

This home is a very, VERY, tired, exhausted and neglected beach home. On the plus side, it’s in a fantastic location, right on the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, located just far enough from a very busy Folly Beach. The home is a beautiful and spacious three story. It features a large living area, open kitchen and bedroom on main. Upstairs there are four bedrooms, one a very large master with a sitting area and a large bathroom. Two spacious rooms and a smaller room. Additional full bath up there for the other three bedrooms to share. The third level is a walkable rooftop.The home, while beautiful, is in a total state of neglect and very desperately in need of some TLC. There are numerous defects, including what appears to be mold in several spots. Comments written in the on-premises guest book date the mold back 2 years. Inoperative items such as ice maker, elevator, shower door, toilet paper fixtures. We cook at home a good bit and meal prep was challenging given the state of the kitchen utensils/pots/pans/etc. The parking level is littered with tired old beach chairs that no one would ever dare to sit upon along with rusty grills and LP tanks. It’d be a great home for a frat/bachelor party, it’s that kind of space…already trashed. Two of the bedrooms have two beds in them, an indication of a party house, but awkward for a family. For what we paid to stay here this week it’s embarrassing really.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful oceanfront property with our friends and young children. The view was absolutely breathtaking, and being just steps away from the beach made it perfect for relaxing and making memories together. The home was clean, spacious, and well-equipped for both adults and kids, which made our stay incredibly comfortable. It truly felt like a home away from home. What made our experience even more special was the host, James Nolan. He was incredibly humble, kind, and responsive. He went above and beyond to ensure we had good memories. Thank you for your hospitality—it was a memorable trip!

On the beach, yes.

This is not an easy review to leave. The listing sets a high bar with the "HGTV Dream home" tag which sets a standard that the property did not meet. Listing photos are outdated. Numerous maintenance issues in disrepair that should have been addressed prior to guests arrival. We needed the elevator and even reached out to the host prior to booking, to confirm that there were no wheelchair restrictions. The elevator did not work upon arrival and the host sends a text video of how to open the door by tripping a latch with a rod and flashlight - some six feet off the ground . None of the lights worked and the elevator was not retrievable from any floor through out the stay. Some exterior doors would not lock and others would not open. We gave up trying to lock the front door or open the 3rd floor door to the deck. The bath towels and linen quality were not guest worthy and all our guests mentioned the odor in the undersized bath towels. Upstairs A/C stopped working on day two. The host states that the issues of drywall repair, locks, A/C, etc will all be addressed. We are VRBO regulars and this is the first - less than ten star - review that I have ever felt compelled to leave, where the property simply was not acceptable given the price paid and the representation of the listing. The listing photos (still) do not reflect the current condition of the property.

On top of the beach

The house was just perfect. Doesn't get any closer to the water and waves than this. Plenty of space and beautifully decorated. We have stayed at several homes on the island and this one is now our favorite. We will definitely be coming back to this house.

Fell in love with Folly

We rented this house for our first stay in Folly. The house was literally steps from the water. The sound of the ocean can be heard throughout the house. The owner was very responsive and accommodating. We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful location

The home is spacious and was great for our large group. The location was wonderful as well - right on the beach and away from the crowds. The highlight was hearing the ocean when we went to sleep at night. The only downside was the home does need a little TLC but this was reflected in the price paid. And it is the beach after all. But a good time was had by all!

Amazing House!

This is our second visit to this house. We have been coming to Folly for vacation for a long time and this is our favorite rental. Amazing property with an awesome host! Hope to come back next year for a third time.

Graduation memorial day weekend

The house, layout and location were perfect! There are some cosmetic difficulties, but given the fairness of price, I will not complain. Our only concern was that the master shower did not drain. One of the sinks did not drain and there’s some broken/torn up wood under the home that was unsafe. There was also trash left in the trash cans on the roof from the prior Tenants.

We had several dates we were celebrating....birthday, graduations, anniversaries and semi-retirement! This was the perfect choice. The house is right on the beach! Walk down 11 steps and you're in the water! We didn't see but a few other people which was a welcoming treat! We had plenty of room and the accomodations worked well!
