The home itself was nice, but our experience with the host made this a very frustrating stay.Check-in was at 4:00 PM, yet the access codes and instructions provided in a lengthy 7-page PDF did not work. Part of our group attempted entry for over 30 minutes. When I arrived at 4:30 PM, I contacted the owner (Jim) via VRBO message, text, and phone with no response. We ultimately had to involve VRBO customer support to get him to respond. Even then, we weren’t able to access the property until close to 5:00 PM. This was especially frustrating given how strict the host was about check-in and check-out times and potential fees, a courtesy not extended to us.Two amenities that influenced our booking — the pool table and darts — were not fully accessible. The darts were intentionally hidden, and we were told we had to contact the owner to use them, which is odd and unnecessary for a listed amenity.The biggest issue came after checkout, when the host charged us 500 for alleged damage to the hot tub cover. We have photos showing the cover was already worn and deteriorating prior to use, consistent with normal wear and tear. Despite this evidence, our credit card was charged without consent.While the house was attractive, all interactions with the host were unpleasant. We caution future renters to book carefully.
