Beautiful view! The home is well taken care of, but felt comfortable and relaxing to have kids and a pet. The customer service was excellent as well! We had one issue that was resolved within an hour and didn't impact our vacation at all. There is no cell service at the cabin itself, but there was good wifi. We enjoyed not having service and utilized the time to truly check out of real life and enjoy spending time together. 10/10 would recommend!

Out of the way!

This is a very nice location but keep in mind it is in the middle of nowhere. 1 hour from Blowing Rock. No restaurants around. The one on site is only open Friday nights during the winter. So pack everything you need. Is a great place for horses and riding.

It was fun

It was pretty private house, I really enjoyed the trip there, my wife did not it was about 50 min from Boone and blowing rock. There were a lot of dead bugs everywhere which I understand however it did bother my wife. Overall it was great

Wonderful stay!

My husband and I booked this place specifically for the seclusion! We wanted a weekend getaway for our anniversary while still being close to the “city”. This place was perfect! Very clean and everything you would want when coming to a VRBO! It’s 30 minutes from Wilkesboro and an hour from Boone. Some reviews mentioned not enough towels, TP or paper towels. There were 8-10 towels, 2 rolls of TP per bathroom and 2 rolls of paper towels. The only thing we lacked was baggies / foil to wrap up left overs. Reviews suggested 4x4 for the driveway and while we didn’t have any ice or snow in mid February we did use 4x4 to get out of the drive a couple of times. At first we were bothered by the lack of covering over the hot tub…until we went in at night and saw all the stars! That would’ve been lost with a covering! Beautiful place! Everything you need for a romantic weekend!

Amazing cabin

Loved our stay! Everything from easy check in while have afew drink and browsing the gift shop to all the houses around. Then to the cabin which was stunning with incredible views. Would definitely stay there again.

Stunning but remote

We spent more time in the car getting to places than i would like. I am mildly disabled so hiking the trails on the mountain was difficult. Driving to towns and attractions seemed to take forever, often on gravel roads that were poorly posted. We should have booked something closer to Boone, Blowing Rock or Banner Elk but i would hate to loose that view from the house. Lack of cell phone reception was problematic.

Excellent View-small cabin

We had several issues-1) high price for 2 bedrooms; 2) roaches in several rooms; 3) grill had 3 burners but only 2 worked; 4) cookware was very poor-dirty pans, chipped dishes; 5) Notified front desk regarding conditions-no response; 6) gas fireplace started at times but not all the time; View was excellent, cabin was clean, furniture very comfortable. Overall condition was good but needed updating.

Very Good but could be excellent

Could be a 5 but a 3.5 this week. Likes: House layout, big windows, ceiling beams, loft w/desk, couches and TV, comfy bed and bedrooms, roomy kitchen, nice new large cutting board, coffee grinder, great ridge line hiking trails, adequate small hot tub, gas logs, nice TV with great on demand options, great internet. Dislikes/needs: uncomfortable, loose toilet seats; poor lighting in kitchen—especially stove area; gas grill grates were very rusty, grill brush very greasy; no sponge; very worn out small frying pan; very poor chef knife; tiny coffee pot; need wine glasses, could use a small outdoor eating area; upstairs glass shower door needs adjustment; need kleenex.

Cute and private cabin

Warm and inviting, gated community and nice views. It was a nice quiet getaway for my wife and I. Perfect for a couple or small family. Nice loft area upstairs to sit back and watch some TV after enjoying dinner, views and the fireplace downstairs.

Not as advertised. Way overcharged. Do not recommend.

Upon arrival to Horsin Around, we found the back door latch completely broken. We could not open from the inside or outside. Maintenance was called and they arrived in a timely fashion and made the required repairs. No apology. Didn't seem to care. Not a great first impression for a place advertised as a luxury getaway that was very expensive. We also discovered, when trying to connect my husband's laptop so he could work, that the wifi password did not work because someone changed the router, but did not change the book. "Maintenance" had no idea what we were talking about and were not helpful. There was a QR code on the bottom of the router that, at least, allowed us to connect our phones as their is no cell service on this mountain. My husband eventually used his phone to create a hub to use his laptop. This should not be what guests have to do at a luxury getaway. Next up: brought ingredients to make mixed drinks - blender in cabinet completely broken. The entire side cracked and the piece that holds in blade broken....the top of the blender was found melted in the bottom of the dishwasher. There was an unreasonable amount of flies in the house even considering that it has a horse paddock nearby. I estimate there were at least 30 dead flies and approximately 2 dozen live flies all over the house. Gross. The air tub that was bragged about in the advertisement did not work and is probably not safe. I took a bath, pressed the button to turn on air as described in book...nothing. Again, my husband us handy so he removed the access panel to discover it had been unplugged. He plugged it in and voila bubbles. One problem, it wouldn't shut off...probably why it was unplugged in the first place so we unplugged it again to turn it off. Felt unsafe and unpleasant. Lastly, as we were preparing to depart and loaded the dishwasher we realized that there was no dishwasher detergent. We left a note and we left several complaints at the visitors center, through VRBO, and with the supposed "rental manager". We have not heard a word back. No apology. No concern. No opportunity to make it right. Not even assurances that they fixed these problems for future guests. I will never stay at Leatherwood Resorts again and I would advise anyone who inquires to stay clear. Abysmal. Marie & Anthony Lammons

Weekend getaway

This location was absolutely amazing. The view was spectacular! The weather did not cooperate and it rained the whole time so that put a little damper on our activities. I would absolutely stay here again. The one issue we had was getting the information to properly check in. I never received the email so that was a little confusing but the office staff was wonderful and very helpful. Be warned there is no cell service in this area you must be connected to the wifi the host provides!

Beautiful Views!

Horsin' Around is a beautiful mid-sized cabin with breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge mountains. My wife and I wanted quiet, peaceful, secluded and that's what we found! Amenities are exactly as specified in the listing. There are no other cabins visible from this property. After a 5-8 minute drive (to what seems like the top of the mountain!) from the front gate of the Leatherwood Mountain Resort you are in a little slice of heaven. This area caters to horse lovers, but being a "horse-person" is not necessary. We will definitely be back! Already checking our dates for the future! Highly recommend Horsin' Around and Leatherwood Mountain resort!

Super private stay high on the mountain

We wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and boy did we find it. Yes: cell reception is spotty - but my wife and I were able to use this opportunity to completely check out from our work and just enjoy the simple mountain life. Resort staff are super friendly and we loved every moment of our experience

Beautiful cabin

The cabin was beautiful. The finishes in the cabin are very nice, and the view is outstanding! Such a relaxing get away for our family. We absolutely loved the community, and took advantage of the horse rides for our young son. We will absolutely be coming back.

Living the Simple Life Mountain Style

Beautiful property secluded in the mountains from the hustle and bustle of life demands. Responsive property manager, Abbie, who made us feel right at home. The staff at Leatherwood were friendly and very welcoming. Highly recommend this VRBO and thoroughly enjoyed the horse theme house :).
