The kids are still asleep. Outside, the peaks glow in the first morning light. You're standing on the balcony with a cup of coffee, and the Feldberg — the highest mountain in Baden-Württemberg — rises right in front of you. That's an ordinary morning at the "Tannenluft" apartment.

Our warm, light-filled 3-room apartment (57 m², sleeps up to 4) sits in the modern Residenz Grafenmatt, directly on the Feldberg Pass at 1,230 m altitude, right in the heart of the Hochschwarzwald. This part of the Black Forest is something of an insider secret: a place where you can step out of your ski boots and onto the sofa within minutes — or lace up your hiking boots and be on a mountain trail before your coffee's gone cold.

One comfortable double bedroom for the parents. A separate children's room with two single beds, so the little ones have their own space to sleep and play — no more air mattresses in the living room. SUMMER AT THE "TANNENLUFT" APARTMENT

When the snow melts, the Feldberg turns into a completely different kind of playground. Hiking trails, mountain-bike routes, natural playgrounds, and the crystal-clear Feldsee lake are all reachable right from the door. With the included Hochschwarzwald Card, you can climb the Feldberg Tower's Gipfeltrail for sweeping views across the whole Black Forest, explore the Wichtelpfad discovery trail with the kids, visit the Haus der Natur, race down the summer toboggan run at the Hasenhorn Coaster, or spend a rainy afternoon at the Badeparadies indoor water park. Lake Titisee is a short drive away, and the Tatzmania animal park along with the Fundorena climbing forest round off a summer that's rarely short on variety.

WINTER AT THE "TANNENLUFT" APARTMENT

This is when the location really shows its worth. The Feldberg ski area, the largest in the Black Forest, begins right at your doorstep thanks to genuine ski-in/ski-out access. Beginners can start close by with gentle slopes and magic-carpet lifts, while experienced skiers have the whole Feldberg area to explore. Sledging runs for kids sit right by the building, cross-country trails wind through the forest, and winter hiking paths offer a quieter way to take in the snowy landscape. In December, the Christmas market in the Ravenna Gorge — regularly ranked among Germany's most beautiful — makes for an easy day trip.

THE LOCATION

Residenz Grafenmatt sits directly at Passhöhe 13 on the Feldberg pass, in one of Germany's most popular year-round holiday regions. The building offers real infrastructure: a ski rental shop and ski school, a bistro, and a private underground parking space for every apartment. Shops and restaurants are within walking distance, and the residence sits directly on the B317, making arrival easy at any time of year.
