  • Waldron Lookout, accessible via a spur trail at 1.5 miles up the northern trail. Turtleback Mountain is a wilderness-preservation success story. Recently the target of a development effort on Orcas Island, a popular weekend destination for people from Seattle, it was saved from that fate largely by the efforts of one man and his organization, Tim Seifert, executive director of the San Juan Preservation Trust. Thanks to their work, the mountain is now a wilderness area, in perpetuity. As a bonus, a network of trails is now available to allow hikers and sight-seers a chance to explore the mountain. The trails are beautiful and serene and not nearly as crowded as those on the more popular Mount Constitution, which sits on the other side of the island. There are just a few open viewpoints, such as this one, but they do pack a punch. Beyond that, the forest scenery is just fantastic.

Weekend Escape

This is a treasure of a find! House has terrific space, both open main floor to enjoy time together and little nooks if you want to escape with a book! Water view from both decks are truly spectacular! And the wildlife will not disappoint....sea otters, eagles and deer to enjoy from your own decks. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here!

Gorgeous location, cozy house

We enjoyed staying here so much with our group of parents, three adult kids, and 2 of their partners. The house is located in a very private location, on the water with views of Waldron Island and the Sound. As others have mentioned, the deck is a highlight, built right over the water on the rocks. We spent lots of time there, and saw seals almost daily, lots of water birds, and twice porpoises. A couple of us dipped into the (very cold) water at the beach. The house itself: the beds are all very comfy and the fact that the two queen rooms upstairs have their own stairs and bathrooms makes them very private, great for groups traveling together. There's a game table, a large dining table, a large table on the deck, and a picnic table on the lower deck over the water. The furniture and carpet and etc. are what you'd expect in a rental house: it was clean, we had what we needed - no complaints! There's one (nice and large, "smart") tv. The kitchen seemed pretty well equipped to me for a rental like this: there's plenty of serving stuff, mixing bowls, cookie sheet pans, lasagna/brownie type pans, even a hand-held mixer etc. - we were able to do some cooking and some baking with no issues. We appreciated the supply of drinking water, provided in a large water dispenser in the butler's pantry. All in all, a very thoughtfully put together and maintained house, now site of great family memories.

Beautiful, spacious home in a scene location

We enjoyed our stay and found the home to be beautiful and comfortable. The carpets could benefit from a cleaning. It would have been nice to have some firewood provided. It was stated that we could get it from the grocery store but we did not find that to be possible. It also would have been nice to have the kitchen be better equipped…not much in the way of useful cookware.

Beautiful spot with charm

We had a great stay here with friends and family who were all attending a local wedding. The house is perfect for a larger group, with lots of beds, huge common spaces and a nice sized kitchen. The outdoor space is just breathtaking, with most of our guests spending the sunset hour on the patio over the water. The property management was super responsive and helpful. Only wish we could've spent more time there!

Perfect Scenic Vacation

Relaxing Spring Break

Our Family enjoyed a relaxing Spring Break on Orcas! The home’s location and view of the sound was breathtaking! Most days we just hung out and read, played cards, or puzzles! Some walked the beaches, and everyone loved the seals and otters. The bald eagles even gave quite a show every day. If you have not experienced Orcas Island and you need some magic in your life-this is the place.

Great house!

Great gathering spot for friends and family. Spacious, warm, and well equipped home with amazing views in a very private setting yet relatively close to town. Watched eagles, harbor seals, and river otters from the ocean-side platform deck.

Great home, we'll managed

We had a great experience renting this house. The property has a large and secluded waterfront with a few private beaches. The dock on the water is a great touch. The home was very clean and accommodating for our family (including babies). The Wood work and views are even more impressive in person.

Exactly as advertised

Property is as gorgeous as it looks in the listing. We had a large group and the property was perfect - enough big open spaces for group activities, but also private spaces for some quiet time. We saw lots of sea life right from the deck and were even entertained by a “dancing” harbor seal! Perfect place, perfect week. Will definitely visit again in the future!

Amazing property!

My family and I made wonderful memories here on Orcas Island. We enjoyed the peace and quiet plus the proximity to Eastsound. The property was just as the ad was presented. We had everything we needed plus many extras that were very nice. We are planning another trip here in the next couple of weeks. Northwest Island Escapes were excellent to work with! Wonderful House and Location

Our stay here was outstanding in every way. Pristine setting and cleanliness. All the extras one would want. Outside deck spaces are terrific. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped and the butler’s pantry an unexpected treat. We look forward to coming again!
