A few days prior to our stay, host notified us that furnace was broken but electric heaters were in place. He did give us the option to cancel at that time as well as a partial refund but we had an obligation so chose to keep the reservation. The heaters were adequate but they did not have safety features (cool-touch, tip-over, etc) and we found the areas surrounding the heaters and the cords became extremely hot. There was only one smoke detector in the entire house and we did not feel it was safe. The house was also noted to be quite dirty - sticky chairs, crumbs, visibly soiled rugs. Our child's slippers were brown within a short time of crawling on the floor. There was no dish soap and sponges were used and soiled. We managed to find one dishwasher tab after extensive searching. The soap in the bathroom was watered-down so much as to be ineffective. We chose to leave and messaged the host. While the host did eventually respond and refund us, we had to involve VRBO support as we did not have a response from him after 24 hours. While it is true the location is excellent, we would not recommend this property.
