This place is well hidden in a residential street right behind the lively Market Street and the promenade. It's a slightly older building, so please be prepared to climb a few steep stairs. The host, Peter, is absolutely amazing. He's very friendly, helpful and accessible in case some assistance is required. And he's there to cook a full breakfast each morning, which was an absolute delight. As the place is in a residential street, it's quiet at night, yet close to all amenities like shops, supermarkets and pubs. I found my room to be clean, and the shared amenities were clearly cleaned on a daily basis, too. If I'm in a position to visit the Isle of Man again, I'll definitely check if this place has a room available for me.

Clean room, very friendly service with essy check in at the guesthouse, full english breakfast everyday with cereal choices and juice available. Location is very central, walkable distance to the ferry station, bus stop and the city centre.

Peter, the owner, can't do enough for you...just wants to make sure you are happy and comfortable. His knowledge of His island is immeasurable...obviously loves where he lives and instills a want on you to visit it all, we will be coming back to do just that 😉

Great stay, convenient location. Thankyou.

I took a short notice 4 night stay during the 2025 Manx GP/Classic TT. The excellent host Peter must be mentoned for his efficiency, friendliness and overall knowledge of the Isle of Man. The property is 15 mins walk from the Douglas ferry terminal/bus terminal and 25 mins walk to the TT/Manx GP paddock/pits area with Bray Hil approx 20 mins walk. Also only 5 mins walk down to the beach/promenade so ideally suited for ferry foot passengers. Thoroughly recommended.

This is the second time we have stayed there. Peter, the host, was very accommodating even changing our room to the one that we stayed in before. The breakfast is very good and sets you up for the day. It’s a very short walk to the shops from the guest house.

Clean and comfortable. Full marks to the owner for sorting out the food allergy items that I had forgotten to mention in the original booking. We would stay here again if in the area.

Look, it’s a guesthouse not the Ritz! Room was small but perfectly functional and newly fitted out. Property itself slightly stuck in a time warp but really well managed and friendly. Excellent breakfast.

The host couldn't have done more for us. The Melrose is convenient for the shops although there was a short uphill walk to get back. The room although compact was clean, the bedding was lovely and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was good, cereal, orange juice, Tea or coffee and a full english and there was also the offer of Manx kippers if you wanted them.. There are a lot of stairs up to the rooms but that is typical of the B&Bs in Douglas. If I have one slight criticism it's that we could have done with a couple of bedside tables to put things like phones, glasses and other things on as we could only leave these things on the shelf by the kettle. We would definitely stay here again.

Heel fijn guesthouse. De eigenaar is vriendelijk en behulpzaam, goed ontbijt! Het is wel een stukje de heuvel op en het guesthouse zelf heeft geen lift. Het ligt vlakbij het centrum en bushaltes. Heerlijke dagen gehad!

Definitely stop here again

The Melrose is similar to other Manx B&B I have used, The property while looking tired and dated is adequate for my type of stay. The Host Peter makes the difference here, very amiable, very helpful, interested in talking to you, serves a cracking full English breakfast, piping hot with great quality ingredients, great coffee too. The room was refreshed every day with tea and coffee etc, plenty too, TV is BBC only tho, bed was really comfy, would I stay again, too right I would, if it works out next year I will book again.

Pleasant stay in a lovely B&B. Excellent value

The Melrose Guest House is a b&B in Fouglas. It's in a good location within 10 minutes walk from the Promenade and Town Centre Overall the place looks a little tired and dated both inside and out and would benefit from some updating My single room was small but cosy and included a TV, tea making facilities and a wash basin in the room. The toilet and bathroom were shared. Service was good with the hosts Peter and Xin being very friendly, welcoming and helpful. A delicious full cooked breakfast was served each day and they were happy to make changes to suit individual tastes. My stay was excellent value for money at under £150 for three nights. I would consider staying again but would probably book a larger room if I did.

Made to feel very welcome, lovely room, very clean, great breakfast, good location to base ourselves. Handy for shops and promenade. Would definitely stay at the Melrose again.

A Diamond in the rough

Ok you need to give this place a chance. At first glance when i saw my room i thought i cant stay here. But i gad one of the older rooms. Tge entire guesthouse is being renovated by the owner Peter. Its a bit rough and ready round the edges but what it lacks in age it nakes up for in service and hospitality. The host Peter is the best guedt house owner i havel stayed with. His knowledge of the island is exfellent. He creates a locely convivial breakfast atmosphere where you end up knowing all the other guests. A full healthy full english breakfast to get you on your way. First time ever i did not gave an ensuite but this was my fault. But i would do it again. The shared bathrooms hace been completely remodelled and are up to date. There are two fantastic bathrooms. It worked perfectly as only a few rooms are use the shared facilities. On arrival and into your own especially if its an older one you nay think "Oh no" However please give this place and its fantastic host a chance.
