Our family of four stayed 4 nights in late December and had an absolutely wonderful time. The cozy cabin provided a comfortable respite from the cold and snowy days and we took full advantage of the fireplace during our stay.
The cabin is an easy to manage 8-ish miles from Nederland, even for someone that's never driven in the snow, and is just off the 2-lane highway. Also, at least during snowy weather, trucks run around the clock to clear and salt the highway, so we didn't have to worry about getting stuck in the cabin with 2 kiddos. We spent most of our trips out driving into Nederland and loved the little town. On our last full-day, we made the 1.5 hr drive up the mountain to Fraser Hill for tubing and it was very much worth the drive for the fun we had.
The cabin itself, is well appointed and very welcoming. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you might need for making meals and the heated bathroom floors will spoil you forever. The ladder up to the loft is a bit steep, but sturdy, and after a few times up and down, you don't really mind it. All the beds seemed comfortable and we didn't have any trouble sleeping. We also used the gas grill one day for burgers and it was nice to take in the views while grilling out. Those views are just something else. Even near the highway, it's easy to stare out into the snow-covered mountains through the large kitchen window and forget yourself for a bit.
We didn't test our AWD rental up the icy driveway during our stay even though Linda took it right up with no issue when we arrived (to help with the unloading of our baggage, which was really nice of her). We parked at the bottom of the hill and just walked up and down during our stay. We might have salted the drive, but it was more fun for us to use the driveway as a sledding hill. We were Texans just there for fun in the snow so this was a fine trade in our book.
All in all, we'd definitely recommend this cozy little cabin. We had an absolutely memorable stay and would come back for another winter getaway if we get the chance.
