It wasn’t the best experience, especially for the price we paid. I was expecting a 5-star experience but was left wanting. You probably will be as well. 3-star, at best, so really consider the price before renting.
I’ve been to the area several times but have never stayed in Decherd (we usually stay around Monteagle). It was Labor Day weekend 2022, so rentals filled up quickly (we booked in late July) and were quite expensive—supply/demand…I get it. However, I do not believe that the price for this rental for that weekend was justified.
You can tell that the owners have tried to fix up this old house (and have been successful in terms of decor and remodeling), but we noticed several issues: 1) The flooring is pretty bad. The flooring is really tattered around the back door and the flooring near the transition to the backroom/bathroom/laundry area is bowed causing us to trip on it many times (until we got used to it). 2) The air filter/return was disgusting—looks like it hasn’t been changed in a long time. 3) There were cobwebs in many corners throughout the house (esp upstairs). 4) The main room downstairs doesn’t have a light fixture/covering—just an uncovered light bulb with a pull string; that’s just not classy. 5) The beds do not seem to be queen beds—as advertised. I didn’t have anything to measure the dimensions; however, my wife and I regularly sleep in a queen bed without issue. The beds in the house were smaller than a queen—a full most likely; that’s a little deceiving (and uncomfortable). 6) Ants visited and covered some of our food. The first morning there we woke up to our muffins (which were unopened and in the plastic container all night) that was sat on the counter near the sink covered in ants (discovered after my young daughter had taken a bite out of the muffin). That’s no bueno! Additionally, we found that one of bags (that contained some liquid cough med and fruit) that also was placed on the counter was covered in ants. 7) I can’t really hold this against the owners, but I want to mention it—my car was struck and slightly damaged by a pretty big/heavy branch that fell from the LARGE tree in the driveway (which one seemingly must park under) during a storm the first night.
Additionally, I think the pre-trip communication could be improved upon, but I've reached the word cap so I can't really expand upon this point.
