  • Bulow Creek State Park is a Florida State Park located five miles north of Ormond Beach. It is on Old Dixie Highway, next to the Atlantic Ocean. For more than 400 years, the Fairchild Oak has silently observed the events along Bulow Creek — serving as a noble guard of the area’s magnificent environment. Nearly two centuries ago in 1836, the neighboring Bulow Plantation was destroyed during the Second Seminole War. And still, the Fairchild Oak stands strong. Local legend has it that this majestic oak tree was the site of two deaths. The first was that of James Ormond II, who lived in a house a stone’s throw from the tree and whose body was found under it, his cause of death unknown. The second death is shrouded in even more mystery. Norman Harwood, who purchased the property around 1880, is remembered as a hulking man. Some stories portray him as a cattle farmer, while others cite him as a dry-goods businessman — but most accounts say Harwood was deep in over his head in debt. It’s unclear what happened, but the myths suggest that Harwood, buried in economic turmoil, killed himself under the tree. #oak #Nature

This property is exceptional. We loved our stay there. It is garage adjacent, which is a separate building from the home, but it is right on the ( large) lot where the home is so if that will bother you, I would move on BUT keep reading!!. The host discloses this clearly as well. ( the hosts are very respectful and we never even saw anyone so don’t feel that you don’t have privacy) What I will say then though is that you would be missing out on a wonderful opportunity. The location is simply so gorgeous. You can take a brief walk out onto the dock and the Lake (or waterway) is just so serene. It is very very quiet and there’s lots of wildlife to see. There are two chairs out there and you could literally spend hours just looking and being quiet. The little apartment itself is also very well equipped and comfortable. We wanted for nothing. The kitchen is excellent as well. It really is an A place to stay and I would stay there again in a heartbeat, and I would highly recommend it.

This location is decorated tastefully. It is on the property of the owner/host. There is a washer, dryer, fridge, oven, stove top, microwave and toaster. All kitchen and dinning accessories are provided. There are paddle fans in the bedroom and living room. There are two steps leading to the bedroom from the living room. I believe this was a 4 car garage remodel. The unit provides ample interior and exterior lighting. One thing my wife and I liked was the epoxy floor. Its good insulation for a floor covering. Its not cold to walk on and provides ample anti slip properties. The host was responsive and gave access to his amnenities on property if needed.Accessibility to the unit was easy. If you want to be away from the active areas for R&R this is for you. Although the town and beach/nightlife is only a few miles away. There is a publix near by and some restaurants deliver. We would stay again when in the area.

We so enjoyed our wonderful Christmas at Sunset Creek! Lovely, comfortable, clean cottage, and Greg is a host that is so helpful and makes you feel right at home. Gorgeous, surroundings with fabulous sunsets and the chance to fish from a very private dock. Also great to have groceries, restaurants, parks, & beautiful Flagler Beach so close too!

Birthday Weekend Getaway

My partner and I had a lovely weekend getaway here. It was great to have access to a dock for some private fishing, and the location was close enough that a drive to the beach for dinner was only 10 or 15 minutes. The apartment was clean, comfortable, and the nautical decorations were adorable. Definitely looking forward to stay here again in the future.

What a great spot!!

Just perfect! Caught 2 tarpon of the dock.. the canoe was great to have and be able to use! Hosts are amazing! Such a great old Florida feel outside and so nice inside! See you next year!

Perfect secret spot

Adorable and quiet

Beautiful property and a very well maintained cottage. We enjoyed walking around the quiet neighborhood and just sitting on the dock. The cottage is as adorable as the pictures show. Everything was exceptionally clean. We enjoyed our stay and Greg was a very gracious host.

I’ve stayed here several times. The setting is unparalleled. The laundry facilities underwent significant upgrades since my visit last Fall. This unit lacks nothing. It’s exactly as advertised. The owners and property managers make every effort to provide an excellent stay. It’s a real gem.

Beautiful property, but since it was someone's home, we didn't feel comfortable exploring. Just a personal preference for us. We saw the lake and dock from a distance. The "cottage" attached to their garage. It was spacious, beautifully decorated, fully stocked, and completely comfortable in every way.

Quiet and serene

Absolutely spotless apartment. The dock was a wonderful place to sit at the end of the day and enjoy the beautiful sunset over the river. Very peaceful and quiet. We really enjoyed our time there. Hope to vacation there again next year.
