  • Buttle Lake is beautifully situated in the wilderness of Strathcona Provincial Park in the centre of Vancouver Island. When the water is low tree stumps of some areas of deforestation are uncovered. Whilst it is remote it is served by good roads which are required for logging transport. These roads are, mercifully, however very quiet. The campground is basic, pumped water & pit toilets, which in reality take it one stage from wild camping but that is as it should be in a remote area of natural beauty. Do not bother with your mobile phone here. Not a cat in hell's chance of a signal!! Great! #GreatOutdoors

Everything we needed was there, the hosts were helpful and quick to respond. Place was clean and beautiful. Loved the locations closeness to the parking lot/ not too difficult of a hike to the ski lift

Winter Wren was fantastic. Great kitchen with everything you would need to cook meals. Hosts were very responsive when I had questions. The third bed in the bedroom is a trundle bed for a child, so something to take note of if you have a larger group. A bit longer of a walk to the lodge if you are going up in the winter, but a good location. Would fully recommend and will definitely go back.

+Complete amenities.( kitchen,bedding,laundry etc.) Beautiful location. -Access road in very poor condition. Not enough parking for building, parking spots barely usable or unusable for for larger suvs or pickups.

Excellent!

Great place with all the details you could desire taken care of. White noise machines, towels for the gear room, sharp knives and all the gadgets you need in the kitchen! It was quiet even with other people staying in the attached units. Super cozy, incredibly responsive hosts and cute touches for Christmas. We had everything we needed. All that was missing was a fireplace, but it was still cozy and comfortable for the holidays. Thank you!FYI If you have mobility issues this is not the easiest place to get to but it is on a great hill for sledding which was great for our family!!!

We enjoyed our time at Winter Wren. The unit was very well appointed and clean. We liked the character of the furnishing and decorating and the unit was very spacious for us. The views of Mount Washington ski hill from the living room windows are lovely, and because we were there in July, the area was very quiet. Communication with the hosts was also very good.

Price wise was good. It was good place to stay the fact if you didn’t have coffee, sugar or cream if you are an early riser and like that first coffee you are out of luck unless you go half an hour down the mountain. We were a little further away from what the kids enjoy doing

Nice place!

We enjoyed our stay here. The condo was very clean and stocked with everything you need. We enjoyed the view on the deck for after supper drinks. It would be nice if there was more seating on the deck. There is technically accommodation for 8, but it’s tight with that many people. But when you’re on vacation, you’re only really there to sleep anyways.

A breath of fresh mountain air

From start to finish the communication was clear and very easy. Our family loved the gorgeous views, peace and quite (except for our kids, lol), and more. The accomodation was great and well stocked. I have no issues what so ever recommending this place to anyone interested. You won’t be disappointed!

Cozy mountain village

We were really happy with our stay. The place was super clean, great layout for our family, and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and a great time. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. The views from every window is incredible, and staying in the village is always a great time.

Great location and living space

We were a group consisting of 3 moms and kids. The location was great for hiking, mountain biking (resort staff is awesome!) and the apartment had a great ambience for social time. The bunk bed "room" was the only disappointment as it was not a contained room and the bunk beds were in the upstairs staircase landing. The kitchen was very well supplied with pots and dishes. Thank you for a great week!
